Fitness and Smoking

Any of you fitness guys/gals ever have any remorse about burning sticks?

Gave up smoking 1984 and got a newly acquired hobby which has brought me here.

Thoughts?

I run and bike. Haven't seen any negative effects from my cigar smoking. Ran a 10k on the treadmill yesterday in fact.

Been a lifter for 36+ years, a competitive hockey player for 22+.

I am also a cigar smoker for 28+ years, and pretty much a daily cigar smoker for 12+.

ZERO regrets.

I ride/race MX, mountain bike, kayak, and very occasionally surf. I have no regrets, and haven't felt any ill effects.

I lift 40oz while smoking does that count?

For the most part.

I get out of bed, drink coffee and smoke a stogie on the can, and still have energy to surf the net. Once or twice a week I walk two blocks to Stop & Shop for bananas and frozen pizza.

Life is good, while it lasts. But it ain't so good if you don't do what you enjoy before you croak. So grab a beer and fire one up, or bloody sod off. :r

Re: Fitness and Smoking

Smoking a cigar and then going off to do cardio you should feel and smell it. A 2+ cigar night and then cardio in the morning there should be some lingering congestion and body odor... People process the affects of smoking at different rates.

Be mindful when you are smoking and what the next 12 hours is ahead. Consider the amount of professional athletes that smoke cigars should illustrate that it's not an inhibitor when your paycheck depends on it...

Wake up - Run to the coffee machine, grab a cigar and do 15 miles to work (behind the wheel of the car)
Rinse and repeat on the way home

Since nicotine is a vaso-constrictor, I try not to smoke/snus before workouts or runs. Even when I have, the results are minimal..usually just a faster heart rate than normal. I've been lifting religiously since 2011, smoking has had no noticeable effects on my progress.

Not sure I wanna think about Tom working in Adam's crease, and certain I don't wanna see that.

Nope, absolutely no remorse whatsoever. Hope you find peace with your inner conflict.
