DR Monte #2 Knock-Offs

So, a driver of mine just came back from a trip to the DR. Hands me, among other boxes. a box of Monte #2's labeled as if they came from west of Guantanamo. Anyone had any of these? They worth keeping or are they dog-rockets at best?

Inquiring n00b minds want to know... :D

Been to the DR a dozen times and can't imagine a place with MORE fake Cuban cigars, especially Cohibas.

Only real Cubans I ever saw were on Boca Chica beach, near Santo Domingo at Darren's restaurant.

last I heard, he split up with is Dominican wife whose father is a Colonel in the DR and he hasn't been seen since. Fish food would be my guess.

Nice thing about the fakes are they are at least Dominican tobacco and when mixed with a few rum drinks, aren't that bad if there's nothing else to smoke.

I'm still pretty ignorant on this subject. What exactly is it about the bands that gives them away as being fakes?

They are printed off center and look like they were torn into shape.

I hate to see any cigars looking like that. Are any salvageable?

So basically they're just shabbily made. Anything about the color or imprint? They also appear to be carelessly applied.

I've actually never tried a cuban before (I need a security clearance for work and figure that having customs seize my stogies would be a double hit) but That is what I see wrong with the bands they may be printed incorrectly too but I don't know enough to judge that.
