Arghh! Bodum Brazil

Found one at a local thrift shop for $5.:banger I was excited all day to try my first french press. I hear they are similar to my VacPot in taste, which is awesome. Problem is that the VacPot rarely gets used b/c the wife does not drink coffee and I waste too much. My morning routine consists of a travel mug with the pour over method, which I like.

Anyways, get home from work, start the water boiling, and go to wash the beaker. Yep, it breaks while washing and I cut my hand  No french press this afternoon. Is bodum glass always so fragile, and if so, what press should I be looking for?

P.S. the reason I was so excited is because the brazil I found was the 12oz model. Perfect morning size when walking out the door. Maybe better luck next time. :td

Sorry bout the breakage Eric. Yup French press glass is notoriously fragile.
On the positive side you may have saved yourself some disappointment. French Press is the least clean cup of coffee you'll get, while vac-pot is
probably the exact opposite of the spectrum, probably produces the cleanest cup of Joe. Not similar at all, almost polar opposites

I still have a desire to add one to the collection of brewing methods :D The main problem with the Vac is the amount of coffee. I am the only java drinker in the home. And while the cleanliness of the cup is different between the french/vac, is the flavor spectrum similar? That was my understanding. :tu

While I agree with Vic...the French press can produce an exceptional cup of coffee. Make sure the grind size is right and you can clear up most of the problems.

Eric check the internet for replacement glass beakers they can be had for relatively little $.

Good Luck!
