Ash in my mouth...
 

So, today I smoked my first pipe. I bought a Country Gentleman corn cob. I also purchased a tin of Peterson Connoisseurs Choice. I love the pipe. It's nice, because it doesn't take an hour and a half to smoke, like a cigar. Although...this will never replace cigars.

On to the point. A little more than halfway down the bowl, I tamped it and then took a few puffs. After the puffs, I realized there were a few ashes in my mouth. I have a filter in. What gives?

I'm not sure if this is a normal thing?

No that's certainly not normal, and especially impressive since you are using a filter. Try to keep the bigger pieces toward the bottom of the pipe, meaning use the crumbs and small bits for tinder on the top. Did you just tamp, or did you stir the ash around any? The only time I get sold material in my mouth from the pipe is when I've been poking around too much with the pick park of the tamper and disturbed the bottom layer of tobacco.

I don't usually get ash from my cob unless I stir it near the bottom, which I normally don't do.

I did poke it a few times, so maybe the ashes did fall to the bottom? That makes total sense. I can't believe I didn't realize that was why haha
