Did you make that thing yourself? That looks pretty nice!

With such a nice cabinet, you may want to get something a bit more reliable than kitty litter to regulate the humidity in it. :2

Nice job. I have a bunch of walnut, cherry, maple, padauk, purple heart, and spanish cedar, etc. layin' around. I thought about building one myself so I'd have some extra room. Did you use repurposed glass or did you purchase new?

Looks like a winner to me ! Nice Job

May I suggest - replace your first run of KL media in about three weeks. Or at least in a few weeks pull the tray and give it a sniff.
It will absorb any vapors off the fresh build like finish coatings or glues. You actually want it to do that anyway.

I wouldn't throw $100 worth of beads in there for at least 30 days.
And I use HCM

Nice humi for sure.

Can't speak to the reliability of heartfelt beads since I've never tried them, but I will say that purchasing the HCM beads was one of the best investments for my cigars and my new cabinet humidor. The humidity has stayed constant for the past few weeks. I'm extremely impressed and pleased with the results. Just some food for thought.

But man, that's quite a work of art! I'm jealous of your wood-working skill!

I'll keep it simple: JUST DON'T DO IT! The inmates around these parts go crazy at the site of an empty humidor... :r

Justin bought new glass. Filling as we speak. And for kl, I paid 4.99 for 4 pounds. How much is 4 pounds of beads? That's a lot of cigars. Opinions about both are warranted but I chose kl.

The debate will always be there.
For me, it is not about opinions but about science. That and if KL were just as effective, museums would be using it to preserve their valuable artifacts - not beads.

Considering the money I have invested in my cigars, beads are the only choice for me.

Re: My new humidor cabinet

Straight from hcm's site.

In order to get the same humidity buffering benefit from kitty litter as from HCM beads, a person would need to use 9 to 14 pounds of kitty litter as compared to one pound of HCM beads. At $50 for a pound of HCM beads and $28 for 14 pounds of kitty litter, it appears at first to be a "value". The problem is, in order for the Kitty litter to work as well as one pound of HCM beads, it needs to be arranged so as to provide 910 square inches of surface area as opposed to 65 square inches of surface area for HCM beads. Are you willing to spare that kind of space in your humidor?
Even at that rate, the kitty litter is far slower reactively than are HCM beads. They can handle the buffering and provide the volume needed, but they take much longer to recover the RH of the conditioned space.
