Cigar Art Project

I have been working on this project for quite a while and actually unveiled the kit this past weekend at the Connecticut Vintage and Custom drum show. There are more than 2500 labels that were saved over the span of about 12 years and I have more than 150 hours of labor into the kit. I will only post a few pictures here but for anyone that is interested in seeing the progress of the kit from the start to where it is now you can check out the almost 100 photos on my Facebook page.

It was an opportunity to combine my love of cigars with my love of the drums and I hope that you will enjoy the pictures.

For the drummers out there, the kit started out as 12"x8", 14"x10" Slingerland rack toms and an 18"x16" floor tom that was converted to a bass drum.

Looks very well executed. Almost has a high end wood grain look to it from a distance. Well done.

Thanks, I am glad that you all like it, ESPECIALLY PNOON!!!

A lot of time went into the kit and I have been using it to demonstrate the calfskin drum heads that I make. People at the drum show were so engrossed at looking at the bands that they almost missed the heads.:bh

I have only one Opus label (Never been a huge fan) and that one is going on a special drum. I have a snare drum in the works for this kit that will match but there will be a separate snare drum with the labels from my first ISOM, the labels from cigars people gave me when I got married and when my youngest daughter was born and labels from other special occasions etc. I will post pictures when those drums are complete.

Been doing good, you have to let me know if you are going to be up this way again any time in the future.

Yes, that is my 1928 4"x14" Black Beauty, or if you want to get very specific it would be a Ludwig Deluxe because they didn't start calling them Black Beauties until 1932. The drum has been in the family for three generations and was bought brand new by my grand father. It's kind of a nice drum.

That snare drum is SICK! I have been looking for a Black Beauty on the cheap for years. Very nice, bro.

If I come across another one from that time era I will let you know. Not easy to come by on the cheap side unless you luck out at a yard sale. When I get drums like this in for sale they generally don't last long.

I will be making a couple of snares with the cigar motif that I will be selling later this year, I will let folks here know first if there is any interest.

Well I finished a matching snare for the kit and had some professional photos done so I just wanted to share a couple of those photos here.

Enjoy
