RIP Milt Schmidt

Bruins legend Milt Schmidt passed at 98 years old today. An amazing player. Bobby Orr called him the greatest Bruin ever. Most (or all) of us are too young to remember. Google him if you love hockey. He was truly great as a player, coach, GM and humanitarian.

Re: RIP Milt Schmidt

A sad day for the Bruins and for the NHL.

Rest in Peace, Cap! The last surviving member of the Kraut Line.

Schmidt was the only person in Boston Bruins franchise history to serve as player, captain, coach and general manager. His Boston teams won the Stanley Cup in 1939 and in '41, and when he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force two months after the Pearl Harbor attack along with linemates Woody Dumart and Bobby Bauer, they were carried off the ice on the shoulders of the archrival Montreal Canadiens..

Although I never saw him play, I know his story and admire him greatly.

R.I.P., Mr. Schmidt.

Not even a mention on ESPN's main page, I'm sure if some NBA player knocked up a ho it would be on there, or got shot at a strip club it would be right there.

Sadly ESPN treats hockey as an "other sport". I just can't watch Sports Center during NBA season. :na

We are clearly not their target demographic.

My dad probably knew him back in the day. He was a big player in the Boston scene in the 1950's (my dad), worked at Boston Arena and once tried out for the Bruins...

Milt is a legend in Boston.

R.I.P. Milt...NESN will have a tribute to Milt tonight before the game.

Re: RIP Milt Schmidt

I know there is no crying in hockey but the NESN tribute put a tear in my eye. Especially the pic of the Canadian players carrying him off the ice.

Here's the Bruins tribute before last the game last night as well as a video they did. There's actually a short scene of a few seconds where you see the Habs carrying him off the ice off their shoulders.
