Toscano Garibaldi

A friend went on vacation to Italy and brought me some Italian cigars as a "thank you for taking care of my pets" as I fed his cats during his trip. I don't know if they are longfillers or shortfillers and I can't find a lot of information about these cigars online, except on Italian websites but that's a language I don't speak. These are probably one of the weirdest cigars I have in my collection.

The legend goes that Garibaldi, an Italian military and political figure, was a vivid cigar smoker and was famous for cutting his cigars in two, so he could share them with friends. Toscani now makes cigars that are meant to be cut in two in the middle so you can share it with a friend. They also sell 'half packs' with cigars that are already cut in two.

The cigar is 6 inch long with a 32 ring, so you smoke 3 inch of it per smoke. It looks awful, the wrapper is full of spots and uneven, the cigar isn't straight and the cigar doesn't have a cap.

The first flavor is an espresso like coffee flavor, quite strong and after a quarter of an inch it becomes a bit spicy. The strength gets less strong pretty quickly until it is a medium strength flavor.

I smoked about 30 minutes on half of this cigar, which is longer than I expected. The draw and burn are good, and the firm as is quite dark. I got plenty of smoke from this medium flavored and mild to medium bodied cigar.

Would I buy this cigar again? No

I smoked a few toscanos when I was in Florence a few years back. Definitely an interesting cigar. Thanks for sharing, made me think of when I was there!

I can only assume these are a different cigar than the Denobili Toscani available here in the United Snakes, since it seems Ferdi found this one smokable, if just barely. The Denobili is not, at all.

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. I'm Italian, I'm a fan of toscano cigars. the garibaldi is the cheapest and the least quality one together with the toscano classico. the others are pretty good and the best are Toscano Antico Riserva(the best quality price), Originale, Millennium, Il Moro(these last three handmade), Antico Toscano and extravecchio(this is pretty cheap and good). Toscano cigar is made with kentucky tobacco and the tobacco is showered with water and fermented. it's unique and it has a totally different taste than any other cigar, but it's so good. I would like you to try other toscanos and tell me what you think.... well and my last name(a coincidence of course) is the mirror of my tastes......

I am a big fan of the Toscano brand; especially the brown box. If you look hard enough you can find some with age. They are not bad at all. Great review Ferdie. I often travel to Italy and instead of paying highway robbery prices for puros south of Miami I reach for these.

is the 'classico' the brown box? Smoked one of those recently, got a review scheduled for some time soon. I also have a box of the Antica Reserva in a grey box, need to try one of those too.

Ferdie, they are no Siglo II with five years of age or a My Father Lancero, but go well with some Italian wine.
