Re: Pho!
I just took the family out for pho. We eat it a couple times per week. I like the rare steak pho with chili paste placed on top of every chopstick pinch of rice noodles. I like it hot:fl

Start slow, stick to the Pho Tai basically a fragrent beef broth with rice noodles and slices of steak (usuall round steak). You can also sometimes get flank (or better yet fatty flank) and combos. Stay away from tendon, meatballs, tripe unless you otherwise like that. Add the fresh herbs, squeeze of lime that come with it, some chilli sauce and enjoy. In the BA your options food GOOD pho are limitless man. Get out and eat some! |

I had some on Sunday at the restaurant in the building I moved into a few weeks ago. Pho Mein is the name of the chain. Pho, meh is the unfortunate result. It just didn't have the flavor I was looking for.
Now if you want some good Pho use the recipe I've included in this post. I don't recall exactly why this is a image file, must be a screen shot from whatever website it was originally found it on. Okay, you can't really read it when it first expands the thumbnail, but if you click on it again it will bring it up large enough to read. It's tasty, well worth figuring that bit out lol. |

Re: Pho!
I love myself some pho! Portland has been seeing a resurgance of trendy pho restaraunts starting up. They recently opened up a Pho Tango about a mile from my workplace and their pho is pretty good. Though the best I've ever had was from an old coworker back in California, she did the broth from scratch. It was remarkable going into the kitchen and smelling the heady scent of the broth being made. Mmmmmm. Now I want pho for lunch!
:dr :dr |
Re: Pho!

Re: Pho!
I get PHO just about once a week. There's two good places near my work that I know of. Why do all PHO places have a random number in their name?

All the AZ guys, the best pho in the Phoenix area is at Phu Than in Mesa off of Southern and Extension. If you do give it a try, be sure to stop by Habanos Torres for a cigar. |
Re: Pho!
Just had my first Pho experience the other day due in large part to this thread. I had steak and meatballs.
It was delicious! I kept trying different combos of sprouts, herbs, peppers, noodles and sauces. Can anyone tell me what the dark brown sauce was? It had kind of a smoky, bbq like taste. I'm now a Pho-fan! |
Re: Pho!
sounds to me like houssin sauce. good stuff!

Why not go to Chatsworth or Woodland Hills? There's quite a few out there, especially if you head toward Chatsworth and more toward the small pockets of Vietnamese restaurants like around Balboa and Nordhoff (IIRC, it has been 3 years since I've been there). Quote:

Re: Pho!
Im in shock!
I love pho, i see it as a very flavorful beef broth, tender noodles and any meat you wish with some fresh flavors from sprouts... etc.... YOU DRESS IT UP I was in shock when i brought my girl to a Noodle shop in vegas.... I am freaking CHOWING down on this stuff, loving it ( 3.99 a LARGE BOWL! hahahahaha) and for good reason, cheap date ;) I notice she is not digging it the best... come to find out, she doesnt like it... i dont know HOW, she doesnt like the flavor of the broth, everything is so knew , textures .. etc.. Fella's.. this could be the turning point :r I just thought i would lay that on you, i would have never have guessed someone could NOT like Pho... but i was mistaken :fl |
