Can't find bread, milk or batteries anywhere

Yep, central NC is expecting 2-4" of snow tonight/tomorrow. Not a loaf of bread, gallon of milk or battery to be found. Its not going to start till well after midnight, but they already salted the roads at 4PM this afternoon.:fl

Looking at the bright side, generators will be on sale next week!:r

I used to get a kick out of the NC "snowstorms" when I was stationed at Camp LeJeune. You got to see all the cars with Georgia and Florida plates in the ditches... :r

For 2" of snow? You should see how much snow it takes up here to even get the schools to close down.

I know your pain.
We go through it here all the time with hurricane warnings.

It seems to happen even up here in Pa.

I can't tell you how many moronic movies I've seen today.

My little hatch on blizzaks did fine :)

2"-4" and everyone is freaking out down there?

To me that's a dusting. We got about 8" on Sunday and have gotten over 40" so far this year in total.

You know, the funny thing is my ride to work this morning (in the blizzard of 09) was great as most of the people here stayed home, so with less traffic I made good time. I lover hearing "if you don't have to leave your home today, stay home!" on the radio!

Carolina "snowstorms" are always comedic. Just got the word that work is closed because of the couple inches on the ground. Was at Walmart yesterday to get a picture frame and sure nuff...the carts were full of people stocking up on Milk, Bread, and Eggs. I've always been amazed at the people that bust the doors down to get into the stores to get those items. All I can figure is that a lot of homes here in NC have people doing nothing more than eating and drinking the milk, bread, and eggs all day! Of course, the schools will not probably be closed for the rest of the week and of course, we'll be inundated with nothing but the inaugaration and weather broadcasts!

A comment to those who haven't lived through a "Southern " snow storm.

Consider, we have very little snow removal equipment (although VA is much better over the past 20 years), basic salt/sand trucks and no experience driving in it. Do you really want your children on a bus with a driver who driver in snow/ice maybe once or twice a year? The same going to work. A days vacation is worth it to me rather than have someone slide into my car, the aggravation isn't worth it. Most know very little how to get around in the snow. My time in Philly got me some experience, but I'm no expert.

oh yeah, man. I saw it first hand last year in GA. people FREAK THE EFF OUT. it's amazing. all it took was the start of a light flurry and people started literally (yes, I know what literally means) running through the streets to seek shelter. I've never seen anything like it before and doubt I will again unless I move to the South again.

I'm with you. Six years in Washington State, 2.5 years in New Jersey and 3 years in New York City taught me a lot about snow and driving in it. My rule for driving in the snow down here - DON'T. People down here get stupid when it's raining hard (they drive 75 mph, in a hard rain - one inch in an hour - without their headlights on). The figure those all weather tires they bought 50,000 miles ago will stop them if it's snowing.

:tpd: I can't count the number of people that we've pulled out of ditches that are from other states and talk about how they were "brought up driving in snow where they come from" or those that drive four-wheelers that believe they are impervious to accidents. Volt hit the nail on the head....we just don't have the equipment or the frequency of snow/ice prepare the roads. But...on top of that, as the saying goes, "you can't fix stupid" for those that drive unnecessarily or drive like a bat out of hell on these roads.
