hey dumb newbie,

Its all personal preference. I know some people who have a hard time finding a CC they like, cough-Shilala.

CCs are have been prized for centuries for the quality of their tobacco. Is it better than Dominican Republic or Nicaraguan??? you have to decide for yourself

many cc are yummy, many arent
many nc are yummy many arent
many machine made are yummy many arent...you get the picture...

Like tireiron said the aging potential is fantastic with cc's
but some are great some are terrible. but construction issues are more common with cc's.

I think CC's have a unique taste that I haven't tasted in an NC before. Beyond that, it's all preference, but CC's are definately quite good.

I see you have gotten lots of opinions. Let me add another, it is a real simple dictum - you must smoke what you like and enjoy it.

Now, to do this, you need to try different cigars to find out what you like. That's where the slope gets slippery.

Personally, I have enjoyed a good many CCs. I have also enjoyed a good many NCs.

I must say that in my personal taste preference profile, there is room for both. Although, I must say that NCs by far outnumber my CCs.

CC's are a slope I am trying to avoid for now. I hear they are a fuller bodied and stronger (more nicotine) cigar than NC's, but I am sure that depends on the NC also. For now I'll stick to one slope.

That's subjective, too. On the whole, I haven't found a single Cuban cigar with nearly the nicotine punch of a stronger non-Cuban. They do make mild Cubans, you know *wink wink* :D

From a collecting standpoint CC's are it. The marcas have largely remained the same and they are dated unlike most NC's. NC's it seems that every few weeks a new and exciting brand comes out... only to fade away. It also seems that if a good stick does come out the hype is so huge that the price skyrockets and the quality plummets.

CC's aren't fancy for the most part. You get a very nice stick for 3-4 dollars. Many of the 3 dollars CC's are better than a 10 dollar NC. But the 10 dollar NC is still very nice.

common misconception

i should add... some do cost more, some cost a LOT more... but most are comprable to NC pricing

I think part of the CC thing is the "FORBIDDEN FRUIT" aspect too. THEY say I cant have it so I want it more.

Of course, Moe. We never doubted your respect for the law. As for me, I don't actually *buy* them. That's technically illegal, even overseas, so I'm lucky to have many friends in foreign places who offer me cigars that I couldn't legally buy.

I don't actually buy them either, the credit card company does. So as long as they are destroyed before the payment check clears, I think they are in some kind of cigar limbo... could be a nice dance too:D

Ah, that would be nice. But the letter of the law, which of course I follow to the letter, prohibits the "purchase, acceptance or transportation" of "Cuban origin cigars." It would be a completely foolish and ineffective law if they failed to specifically prohibit recieving them as a gift as well, would it not?

There are some that do, but most Cuban cigars are comparable to (as in much cheaper than) non-Cuban cigars in price.

I like the cc's mostly cause I'm "stickin it to the Man". I like them aged best. But give me a Padron Serie 1926 and I'm just as happy. Or, thanks to Bao, I like the Le Joya de Nicaragua 1970 for just plain KICK. In other words, smoke em if ya got em.

Some of the ligero-packed NCs are much stronger than any CC I've had. CCs have a unique taste, but their strength varies from mild to full.
