CI Legend yellow

This CI legend is blended by Don Pepin Garcia and it can’t go wrong there, I have loved every Don Pepin cigar I smoked so far. This 5.7 x 54 cigar has a nice aroma to it that reminds me of some Cuban cigars I smoked in the past, the wrapper is smooth, shiny and oily with some very small veins. The predraw is good and leaves a sweet flavor.

A full cedar flavor is what I get after lighting the cigar, combined with some herbs and after an inch some leather is introduced to the palate. The cedar disappears and the leather and herbs leave an amazing flavor on my palate. At the end some chocolate joins the herbs and the leather. For the grande finale the leather and herbs fade away and the cedar returns and pairs well with the chocolate.

This is a full flavored medium bodied cigar which produces a lot of smoke. The draw is good but unfortunately the burn is crooked, something I haven’t experienced in the other CI Legends yellow I smoked, so I just blame it on this specific cigar and not on the whole batch.

Would I buy this cigar again? Hell yeah, I already did

I'm glad to hear someone else give these the thumbs up. While not as strong as some of the other DPG blends I still really like the flavor (especially the chocolate you described) in these.

I've never had a burn problem with them at all. They do seem to need to rest for a month or so though for the flavors to settle. Not sure what is up with that.

These, along with the 5 Vegas Miami are my favorite Pepin blends.

I always have these on hand. The woodsy quality makes them great around the fire pit.

The CI Legend and 5 Vegas Miami are my least favorite Pepin blends.

I was unlucky with 3 out of 5 I had of these, the wrapper was kind of fragile and burst open when cutting (palio)

I love most the DPG's I've had. Great review on this.

I've got one that was gifted to me in the humi. I'm going to have to get to it when the summer comes and it's time to sit outside on the deck and relax for a while.

I had one in a BTT that was only ok; I've got one more from a PIF that I'll need to try. These clearly deserve a second chance.

the one I was able to smoke was ok, I just like them a bit stronger :D

Simon, is there any cigar strong enough for you? BTW, I call BS on the review. If the real Don Fernando had written it the pre-draw would have been either hay or manure. Who is this impostor?

Don Fernando 01-07-2009 07:44 AM

Re: CI Legend yellow

a manure predraw, yuck :pu now an aroma of manure or hay, that is possible, but when a stick tastes like manure I won't smoke it.

Volt 01-07-2009 07:48 AM

Re: CI Legend yellow

Hehe I was close enough.... And if it even smelled like manure I would not smoke it. Hay is ok though.

I always find your reviews, as well as general comments, of non-cuban cigars interesting being as you have unlimited access to cigars of cuban origin. You seem to go against the grain of many that participate on the board and reinforce what I believe to be true.
:salute:

Cubans are overpriced and I like many Non Cubans just as good as the better Cubans. There are lots of great Cuban cigars, but there are just as many or even more (power lies in numbers in this case) Non Cubans.

I suspect the overpriced part is because of local taxes in the NL? Because typically the prices on most CC's are fairly competitive per stick dollar wise for those....umm on the other side of the puddle. :)

Thanks for the excellent review and photo's DF. This is a solid medium bodied smoke with pleasant aroma. I have a couple of these that have been hanging around for just about a year now. Probably should drag one out and set some fire to it:ss

I disagree, this cigar, the CI Legend Yellow for instance, costs less then 80 USD for a box of 20, find me a cc of comparable size and quality for that price. I haven't found them yet.

I'm enjoying one of these now and have to agree with the initial post, an excellent cigar. No burn issues here and I"ll be looking to buy a 5 or 10 pack on JoeCigar soon. :D

Now I'm torn between the yellow and red labels.

So what you're telling us is that you know what manure tastes like. :p

Nice review, Don. I've had a few of these and found them to be fairly tasty. :)

I thought that they were more expensive that $80. I remembered them being closer to $120, but I could be wrong, as I often am.

Kids stick everything in their mouth Mike, and yes, I too have been a kid.

make that $80 $69,95 right here. Unfortunately they are backordered.

Very nice review. I did a blind review on one of these that had a couple years age on it. Flavors meld even better with some time on em.

Ferdinand, thanks for posting this review. I've had some of these resting for awhile, and I decided to fire one up last night. It was very enjoyable. Complex enough flavors, very good construction, and I only had to retouch the burn at almost the nub. I would definitely buy more of these.

It had been a long while since I had smoked one of these. I pulled one out this morning and was reminded what a nice stick it is. If only they were a smaller RG I would smoke a lot of them!!

I have not had the yellow, YET. I will have to give it a try after that review. I have smoked the red and loved it, just ordered a box.

Ferdinand, nice review and pic's my friend!

To date, that is the only CI Legend cigar I care for.
