What decade would you live in?

If you could travel back in time, where would you go? I think I would prefer the 70s, with the 50s in a close second. I have no actual experience of the 50s other than what I see on TV, hear from older generations, and such. Seems like it was a really good decade to me. Of course, I was born in the 70s, so it doesn't get much better than that! :D

AD 30 to AD 40

There were some things going on then that I would have liked to see.

Take care

I might relive the 1970s and do some things differently.

I think that would be cool too! To see the birth of the US...

If language wasn't a barrier, I'd head back to ancient Greece and tag along with Alexander the Great. I'd also like to hang with Julius Caesar when he was in Gaul, prior to the Rubicon.

If I had to speak the language, then I'd probably pick the 1760s so that I could understand better the many issues that contributed to the Revolution.

Enjoyed the 80's but too young to have enjoyed the 70's so I would go with that. I really liked the 90's too.

Hmmm ... I think the 1930's ... the cars. boats and clothes were awesome. But, there was that little problem with the Great Depression.

the dark ages have always fascinated me knights and the weapons of that era. but i would probably go back to the 60's loved the music and reliving the 70's and 80's wouldn't be that bad.

I've got to go with the 1940's. I'm a huge fan of Old Time Radio and the classic movies of Bogie, Cagney...

There was that problem with the war, though...

This is a great question. My wife and I talk about this once in a while.
We think post-war '40s into the fifties would be perfect for us. The great music that you can dance too, big giant cars, a hardworking man could support his family without his wife working, and good family values make this era a great choice for us.
I wanna be able to walk into a club, have the waiter carry a tiny cocktail table down to the front, order a bottle of hooch, light a cigar, and dance with my wife.

I think that would be a much better life than putting up with how lousy our society has become.:2 Oooo, don't get me started!

Sorry, but everytime I start to think of any particular era, I find something about it to be more objectionable than that of my own.

1890's
1920's or 50's...

This is a favorite discussion of mine :)

I was born in the 50's and remember what it was like because after WWII it was a period of rapid growth and the only bad thing going on was the Korean conflict. Other than that, people respected each other more than they do today, kids respected their elders and people were more honest and held to a higher standard. We didn't have to worry about playing outside and any crazy weirdos trying to kidnap you,,,,we were free to do so much more instead of playing video games and rotting our minds and bodies because we exercised all day long. How many kids are overweight, out of shape, on ritalyn or sufferring some other "childhood" disease in todays society? I'll take any decade before the 90's as the last 20 years have brought more issues in regard to moral decay, dishonesty in the business world and illnesses than I can remember.

California 1830's or 40's!!! Before the Gold Rush!!!

My ancestors were wealthy land owners and I would have enjoyed the unspoiled landscape of California!!! This is also around the time of Zorro!!!

Any decade between 1890 and 1930.

1700's-it would have to be 1770-1780 (Birth of a Nation)
1800's-1880-1890 (Industrial Revolution)
1900's-1960-1970 (Enough said)

Wow, grrrrrrrrrrreat question. Never really thought of this before, but I would love to live without the conveniences of this life, so that would put me right around 1850 to 1860, or 1860 to 1870.

Re: What decade would you live in?

Hmm.. an interesting question that I've thought about once in a while. The problem with Ancient and Medieval eras (any country) was that while it would be interesting to visit and then leave, I would never, ever want to actually live in those eras. Tons of wars, plagues, short life expectancy, and you had better hope you don't get sick. Unless you could "arrange" it somehow to be wealthy, odds are you are going to live a very rough, short life. Not to mention that in places like medieval Europe cities and towns would stink to high heaven.

Even though we have problems in the modern era, things are much better as far as standard of living. For a good time, I would probably choose to stay right were I am but roll back the clock to the mid 50's to early 70's, which is more of my father's era. I think life would have been interesting then, especially given the rise of the middle-class. Good standards of living, nice cars, cheaper cigars, no smoking bans, and no major wars other than that bit of nastiness in SE Asia.... which is almost the only reason why I say I would stay right where I am.

Hmm...1921. Would've just missed the great flu pandemic, and there were plenty of trolley lines still running (some heading for their peak).

Either the 1870s to hunt down Jesse James, or the 1960s to make love, not war. ;)

50's for me. Great cars, rock-n-roll, extreme hot babes in poodle skirts.

1800-1810 Would love to be exploring the Western frontire back then. Trapping, fishing, exploring and such... Would love to have seen this country before it became over-developed. When trees were huge and the wildlife still pretty much more populous. Would love to see a giant buffalo herd.

oddly contrary, yet all-inclusive, during my time in the military I was able to make love and war... face-shooting bad guys 1 round at a time! :usa:cb

2010-2020; the beginning of the first great crisis. The Saudi's stopped being able to conceal the decline in oil output about the same time most western nations finally realized that the dollar was a worthless. The US economy collapsed along with the Federal government over a period of three months, there wasen't much left. The US became divided along regional lines, much like South America... Intresting times indeed.

Seriously, The 50's were intresting.

I grew up in the 80's so I would go back to the seventies. Actually would love to go 1965 to 1975. Just the best music of all from that era.
