Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
This is a three fold question regarding relighting a cigar; After you put out your cigar do you ever relight it? If yes, how long do you let it sit (or the longest time you will let it remain sitting) before relighting the cigar? If you do keep it for completion, where do you store the cigar until you go back to it?
For the record: As a general rule I do not relight my cigar, as sad as that might be, because it picks up an unusual taste which goes against the reason for smoking and enjoying the smoke in the first place. If I ever do break my prior rule of relighting a cigar (hardly never) it cannot sit for more than ten minutes as a general rule. Longer than that I would say "what's the point?" It picks up the taste of the ash and the saliva on the end from your mouth, blah! It's just not worth it. Your thoughts... |
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
For me, any stick that has gone out and left unattended for 15 minutes...it gets tossed, never relit. I'll pull another stick out to smoke. But that's just me. :2
Besides...if it was a good stick, I wouldn't have let it go out. :D |
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
1) Never "put out" a cigar. Let it go out on its own. This applied
whether relighting or not. 2) Before relighting, knock off ash. 3) Toast as normal, but before you puff, blow through the cigar(purge). this will burn off the tar and reduce bad taste. I try to avoid relighting but have done up to an hour later. :2 |
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
I will relight if it gors out while smoking. But like Mac if its out for more than 15 minutes I toss it.
Also what Bob said is very good advice. You can also hold a flame over the end and purge once the flame goes blue you can relight. |
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
when we smoke at the firehouse we have to relight often. We just dont smoke the very high end here.

If you light a cigar after it goes out it is a nasty POS. I never relight. IMO, if you're letting your cigar go out, then you're doing it wrong.

if something interrupts my smoke ..I purge with a lighter and let it go out so it's still tasty an hour or two later.

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
"IMO, if you're letting your cigar go out, then you're doing it wrong." I was asking if you put the cigar out or allow the cigar go out, such as you have honey dos that you have to handle immediately such as take the groceries in from the car to the house or take out the trash sort of thing. Heaven forbid that you weren't paying enough attention to your cigar and allow the gar to go out while on your watch. Sheesh!
Oh BTW doing what wrong? LOL :r Quote:

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
Do you leave it in the ash tray or move it to a cool location (like in the house sorta thing cause I've never been able to restart a prior smoked cigar even after a short amount of time? IMHO, It just doesn't cut it for me!)

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
I rarely relight, I've done it a few times but never longer than 10-20 minutes. But I'm probably doing it wrong those times.

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
Almost ten years about as long as I have smoked cigars but I have never had to let one rest and go out while being tasked by the wife.

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
As with most people I don't re lite unless it went out while smoking but I generally keep a close enough eye on it to keep it from going out. If it does go out while smoking I always blow through the cigar for 5-10 secs. Blow all the gases and everything out the front end and may even snip the foot to even everything out. After re lite if I just do not enjoy the cigar anymore I toss in the stinky and depending on time, I may go grab another.

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
Ya. If I got the "Hey help me with groceries." I would just make a pit stop in between each load to take a puff. Generally when I smoke it is after I put kiddo to bed and usually around 8-9 in the evening.

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
there's been a couple of times at the end of a stick after I've put it down, when I decided to relight it. There have been countless times when I've relit a stick after it's been out mid-stick.

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
I can't do a prolonged re-light. Aside from "if you don't like the way it tastes anymore, stop smoking it", the other best piece of advice that helped my in progress cigar smoking was "don't re-light unless it has just gone out." Each one I have paid the price for once before and learned why I was told each: your smoke will suck and you will not enjoy it.

Yup!:ss

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
Depends on how emotionally attached to the cigar I am.
|
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
I do after a short amount of time I try not to let anything sit for more then 30 min. I will say once they go out for a min or two...they never taste the same... to me anyway
|
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
I definitely relight any cigar that I'm enjoying. I don't bother knocking off the ash, I light around the edges of the warpper...takes less than 5 seconds.
|
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
If Im working on a machine and it goes out waiting for me to pick it back up, and its less than 30 min., yes.
Otherwise no. |
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
Like others, I will relight if it goes out while I'm smoking it or I have to put it down for a few minutes, but not otherwise.
|
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
I clear my cigar every time I sit it down thinking I might not get back to it. That means I just blow all the smoke out of it. I sit it down so the ash end is angled up and smoke won't regather in the cigar.
I don't put it out, I let it go out on it's own. If I do that, I can pick up the cigar later, spark it up, and it's just as good as when I sat it down. No wet ashtray taste whatsoever. I've smoked cigars that sat a couple days, just to see if they were still good. Perfectly fine. A cigarette smoker taught me that trick. I was truly amazed that it works with cigars as good as he guessed it would. |
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
I will if they've just gone out, or if I have to run inside to do something for a couple minutes and it goes out. I don't think I've ever let anything sit over 15 minutes between it going out and relighting, but that's probably about my limit, unless it was a really good cigar.

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
Depends. Sometimes, yeah, I'll relight. It kind of depends on the cigar and he reason and time I set it down. But if I think I may have to let a cigar sit for long enough for it to go out, I purge it before I set it down.
|
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
I have always cut about 1" off from the foot and purged. If there wouldn't be enough left to smoke after the cut I trash it.
|
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
Cigars will go out from time to time, for various reasons.
I just tap off the ash, purge and fire it back up!!! Unless its been there for a while...>30 min. |

Typically no, I will if something comes up or I can't finish the stogie for whatever reason and save it for later.
|
Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
I used to smoke one one cigar all day long at work. Between 2 fifteen minute brakes and a Lunch I could finish one toro. But even with the purge, the taste on relight was never as good as smoking through the whole cigar. So for the most part I either skip it now, or bring petite coronas and just smoke part of one at lunch.

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
Re light. Yes I will relight and have many many times in my smoking life. Now I will say there have been times that I will buy a cigar special for my son and I and after a few puffs he will be like OMG dad I can't smoke this because it is to strong for him. So he isn't disappointed I will be like ok go get one you like out of the Humi and some days we are out and need to buy him one we know he likes. Anyway when I spend good money on a Stick if my son don't smoke it I have and will always smoke it later. ummm I have to say that even the other day I pulled one out of my trucks ashtray that I keep looking at every time we go somewhere in the last week. Pulled it out dusted off the ash and lite that up. Smoked rather nice i will say. I can't say I understand it really seeing it has only been like 12 to 18% rh a few days where it was in the 40 and 50% range and it smoked nice. Last year Winter time i had a cigar of his that was nasty and only a day old... I have even smoked a few that my wife wouldn't finish either. Sometimes I just don't want to buy anything other then Cigars I know they both will smoke. My wife most days now just keeps telling me she will stay with the pipe while we smoke cigars. I am not the Typical pipe and cigar smoker

Re: Do you ever relight a cigar after you put it out?
Like others have said, I don't "put them out" but when they go out on their own, in most cases, yes, I re-light.
Sometimes I even let them sit out overnight, on my patio (I live in Florida, very humid) and re-light them as my morning smoke....and they (more often than not) taste just as good, if not better. (All depends on the stick, of course...;) ) |
