Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
I'm going to buy a Ruger LCP .380 with a Crimson Trace Laserguard and 1000 rounds of .380 ammo.
I need some sort of holster, too. No clue what I'd like, but this is going to be for CCW. Any suggestions are welcome. The local gun shop wants $469.99 for the LCP with the Laser. It comes with an extension clip mag that I need to carry my pinkie. It's included, and the box, or course. Once I find a price online, I'll see if they're willing to deal. I'd rather buy there, and I'll pay a little more to support the local shop, but I don't want to take a beating. I saw there are some auctions and stuff, I know nothing about how they operate, except that I would have to have the gun sent to a local shop? If someone can clue me in on that stuff, that'd be awesome. I'm pretty well married to this choice. I love the gun, have read all the pros and cons, and I want to try it and see if I like it. If I don't like it, I'll trade up. I already have a 9mm, so I'm good there. If there's a 9mm option that's as small and light as the LCP and can use the same kind of laser with the button on the grip like the LCP, I'd look at it. It'd be nice to keep all 9mm ammo. It's so cute, just so tiny, I know you are probably used to hearing that eh Scott? :sl Very nice brother! |
Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
Scott,
A number of places have had them for $279 recently plus cost of CT, which can be had for under $130 also. When you add transfer fee and so forth, that is not a bad price at all locally. As far as holster, I ether recommend the one Remo's friend makes or PJ, whichever you prefer as bothe are excellent. Fire that gun first. I love mine but my wife hates it. Different trigger than most guns with long draw. One heck of a recoil due to size and weight. Lousy sights hence a laser a must. What's the good? A suppository size and reliable. |

Only difference is you don't want the Ruger pointed at you. Come to think of it, heck, you don't want Scott pointed at you either.:r |
Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
Once I get home I can run a couple of checks for you and get a fair price but the $469 doesnt sound too far out of range

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
Check gunbroker, Cheaper than dirt or just do an internet search, find the gun, use your local dealer and have the gun shipped to your local FFL, most likely cheaper.

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
I always use buds gun shop dot com (no affiliation) as a reference point. They have it listed with the laser at $362.56 with a cash discount price of $352.00. Looks like it comes with the finger grip extension to add to the mag.
For holsters I hear a lot of good things about this one: http://n82tactical.com/n82store/?page_id=3035 Again not affiliated. |
Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
While in waist kydex holsters are great, for the LCP, this is my favorite holster.
I alternate between in waist or back pocket, depending on clothing. This is a Talon holster for the back pocket. Won't be a good outcome at all if I am ever asked for my wallet and reach back there to oblige. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...o/f6977949.jpg |

Sorry I better clarify that $469 is including the 1000 rounds right?

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
I just heard about this place in the First Firearm Thread. I just ordered one for my 4" 1911. Can't beat the price, lifetime warranty, and 4 week return policy.

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
Will you show me a pic of the backside of that holster, Carlos?
Does it have a pocket clip, or what? I like that alienware one Scotty linked up, too. :tu Quote:

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
Scott,
Will try to upload a photo later or tomorrow. Picture the backside intended to be the impression of a wallet in your pocket. As you put your hand in to draw, your hand slips between the gun pocket and that backside panel. Perhaps better explained on their website. Watch their pocket holster video on this link. http://www.talonholsters.com |

Wife running late so time to play.
Here are some photos of my two holsters I regularly use. Ps, for ammo, SG Ammo, when in stock. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...57CD624DB0.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...8CBCA8B893.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...7C2C75A949.jpg |

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
Sounds like you have the weapon covered so I won't offer an opinion on that. Not sure if you're looking for a pocket holster or a belt holster.
Personally, for pocket holsters I don't think you can beat a Mika. They're reasonable in cost and custom made by a guy who knows what he's doing. It's what I use. Do a search on Robert Mika if you're interested. Back when I ordered mine, Robert personally called me to make sure I'd be happy with what he was going to make for me. If you're looking for a clip on or belt holster, there are plenty of options. Talk to five different people and you'll get five different opinions. I've tried several over the years. When I choose not to pocket carry, I prefer a leather Bianchi clip on. Kind of old school, but so am I. ;) |

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
Scott, tons of good recommendations for holsters, etc. While it sounds like you have enough, I just want to put in a recommendation for one more: PJ Holsters. He was recommended to me on a gun site I belong to and I ordered a pocket holster for my Kahr CM9. It is kydex but fits like a glove in my front pocket and stays in the pocket as designed when I pull the gun out. Just another consideration. My friend is a retired cop and has the gun you are leaning towards and loves it. I just struggled with the long trigger pull. Good luck and have fun. Steve

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
To complicate matters, I started looking at the Kimber Solo CDP 9mm last night.
Man, is it a pretty gun. Crimson trace grips. Being I can buy two LCP's for the price of the solo, I'll probably talk myself out of it right quick. But If I can find used around $875, I'd do it. http://www.kimber1911pistols.com/wp-...-solo-cdp2.jpg |

My friend, after looking at a Chevy, you have now test driven a Rolls in the gun world.
Two complete extremes and price difference for for very, very good reasons. If money is no option, a Kimber any day. |

For holsters, I use a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster every single day. It is very sticky so it won't fall out of your pocket:

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
Scott are you planning on using the .380 as a back up to your 9mm? I personally don't see the point in a .380 for concealed carry when you could take a 9mm or 45. Personally I would take the 9 over the 45. as long as you have good 9mm hollows they will do the job just fine plus you can carry more ammo then a 45.
the S&W Shield doesn't seem too much bigger then the Ruger if your ok with venturing away from the 380. Otherwise you could check out the bodygaurd which is a 380 caliber. |
Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
This LCP is small, Ryan. Very small. Very light, too. I got a couple boxes of Civil Defense ammo that weighs almost nothing. The whole point is to have a comfortable ccw that I'll actually carry. I have a 9mm 1911 frame that I would never carry as a ccw. Too heavy, cumbersome, and clunky.
But we're not having that conversation here. We did that awhile ago. :) |
Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
I have an LC9. I carry it daily. I think you'd be fine with the LCP. That was actually my first choice but my dad talked me into the 9. You've got a lot of really good recomendations for holsters, for me I like ones that go in the waste band. The ones posted with a lot of material like the Alien one I cant wear. The rub my love handle funny and irritates me. Something to consider is comfort.
Also I'd jump on the Bud's bandwagon for a price reference |
Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
So anyways, I carried myself off to National Armory, my local gun shop.
I bought a Ruger LCP .380 with the Crimson Trace laserguard, a Remora inside-the-belt holster (which I'll replace when I can get a custom one made by Mr. Mika and/or the wallet holster Carlos has), 3 boxes of crappy russian target ammo, two boxes of Civil Defense mega ultralight ammo, and a Walther P22. I got the P22 because it just got traded in, came with a couple extra mags, is a beautiful gun, and is super easy to work the slide and hammer. The trigger pull is soft and reasonably short, too. I got it because Weeze FINALLY agreed to learn how to shoot. I'm going to take her to classes and get her CCW, and then she can trade this in for a smaller, sexier, little purse cannon. I'm absolutely thrilled my girl is going to learn to shoot. How awesome is that? |

Make sure that thumb in the shooting hand is nowhere near that slide or like my wife, whom I repeated to look out for that countless times, managed to almost have it sliced in half. On the up side, has never, ever, ever been a concern again.:D |

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
I tend to shy away from making recommendations on which guns I think people should buy. Now that you've made your choice, I will say I think you made a good one. My brother's a retired cop. He likes the LCP, and carries one off and on. :tu

Re: Will You Guys Help Me Shop My New Gun?
Congrats on both new purchases, Scott.
The guys at work said any mini is good, excepting the Ruger LCP .380 and the Walther P22, avoid those two like the plague. I KEED, I KEED! :D |
