Cigar 25 CountDown
Cigar Aficionado has started their countdown for this year top 25. My question is what cigar do you think will be the No.1 cigar of the year. :cb
|
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
Who's got the biggest ad in the magazine or ran the most ad space this year?

Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
Ever since Bruce Willis' daughter was voted as one of the most beautiful women in the world last year by some magazine I have become suspicious of this ranking! :)
But, mmm, when was the AB Tempus ranked 95:) |

I'm pulling for the swisher sweet

Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
I don't agree with everything the do there BUT I don't think I have ever disagreed with their rankings of what the top cigars are each year.
Padron 26's, FF Opus X, and others have deserved it. |

Conspiracy theories aside...
My prediction is that the La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial makes it into the top 10. |
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
Whatever what one thinks of CA and its top 25 list, I still look forward to seeing what cigars are on there.

I ALWAYS look at their reviews.
I find them interesting..Yep! I like the reviews... Is the RP DECADE this year???...It's tops on my list :) Tom |

I haven't bought a CA mag for a long time though I did enjoy looking through them and they usually had a good interview with someone. It was also a good starting point for the learning process. Just from what I remember I wouldn't disagree with everything they put at the top of the reviews and they are usually premiums and top CC's. So I'll be interested in seeing what they put up this year. I guess there are also reasons why I no long subscribe to them, too. ;) |
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
They announced 10-6 today:
#10 - Ashton Heritage Puro Sol Robusto #9 - La Gloria Cubana Artesanas de Miami Elegante #8 - Don Pepin Garcia Lancero #7 - H. Upmann Sir Winston #6 - Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill |
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
#5 - 2 announced 01/08/09
#1 announced 01/09/09 #25 - 11 announced 01/12/09 I am not sure they would announce them in this order. |
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
That is dumb. Why not just reveal from 25 to 1.

yawn
|
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
I really can't think of a good reason to announce things out of order like that. But then again I'm not losing sleep over it anyway...Or maybe I am, I did wake up 3 hours early today.

Re: Cigar 25 CountDown

Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
I don't agree with #6. I have a box and had one this past weekend. Meh. I've certainly had much better cigars this year.
RA Eminencia, RYJ Escudo. Are they allowed to consider LE or RE's for top 25? |
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
#5=Don Carlos Edicion de Aniversario Double Robusto =$32
#4=La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial No. 5=$7.8 #3=Litto Gomez Diez 2008 Chisel Puro=$11 #2=Padron Serie 1926 80 Years Maduro=$30 No surprises here. Fuente and Padron are HUGE advertisers with CA and Litto went on tour with CA/CRA this summer. |

Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
I just bought a box of Padron 80th (Natural though).
|
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
Also, there is no way they couldn't tell what the Chisel was, even unbanded. Same goes for the Padron 80th. Both have distinctive looks IMO. I'm not saying they aren't good smokes, but this just seems off.

I say make 'em smoke in the dark! :c This thing is rigged, but there are some good cigars on that list... |
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown

I totally agree with this. It seems odd that the #2 cigar is probably the most recognizable unbanded. |

Not saying their ratings are perfect or impartial, just saying I think some are being too hard on them. |
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
I don't completely buy that it's all up to advertising dollars, I think it has something to do with it but not all.
There are LOTS of cigars that are rated in the top 25 that don't even advertise with them. Plus all the cigars in there are damn good and deserving. |
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
Um... Casa Magna Colorado Robusto?
Has anyone had one? |

Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
Well if nothing else I'll be trying the Casa Magna and it won't break the bank.
|
Re: Cigar 25 CountDown
What's the story on the casa magna? Who makes it? This is a surprise as they usually reserve #1 for an expensive premium or Cuban cigar and give stuff like casa magna a token spot in the teens if they want to reward advertising or whatever.

It's a Nicaraguan puro made by Nestor Plasencia for Manuel Quesada (MATASA). Never even heard of it until a few days ago! |
