Speeding Ticket Advice Needed- Opinions?

Ok, the back story, I was clocked going 77mph in a 55mph by a state trooper...

I have spoken to my insurance agent, being that I am a (more or less) responsible driver, he gave me 2 alternatives, both will not affect my insurance...

Alternative 1)

Prayer for judgement. This requires a 25 dollar report of driving history, and so long as nothing bad happens for 3 YEARS then it is wiped away, clean...

COST 25.00

Alternative 2)

Driving Class to get ticket changed from a moving violation, to an immobile violation. Class costs 60.00, Ticket cost 80.00, Court cost 220.00..... BUT nothing would be hanging over my head in case I have any bad luck in the next 3 years...

COST 360.00

Before this, my last infraction was 6 years ago, that being said, you never know what may happen in the future...

What would you do?

Slow down. :D

Rob, I don't know your driving habits, so I voted for choice #2. Besides, you never know what the future holds brother. :2

I'd go #2, and take it as a lesson learned. Like Mac said, who knows what the future holds :2

I've Done 2 Driving Classes, Myself. Worth It In The Long Run, IMO.:tu

Crap happens....#2 would be my choice.

Go #1, then lock your car in the garage for 3 years. Savings would be MUCH more than 300 bucks. :tu

I was in this exact same situation about 12 years ago. I chose option 2. But it was only around $180.

Who knows what could happen in 3 years? I'd pay more for a piece of mind. Sure wish Taxachusetts had something like that.

I'd just about do any unholy act to get out of points on my insurance.

Re: Speeding Ticket Advice Needed- Opinions?

I would take the $360 and put in on 13 Black. If you win, you can get all the speeding tickets you want in the next 3 years and just say **** everybody.

1. Slow Down
2. Show up at court. Officer might not be there and it gets throw out. If he is there, present your clean record for the past 6 years and ask for leniency
3. Dammit Slow Down!

I'd roll the bones and go for #1. Slow down and drive responsibly and before you know it the 3 years are up. I'm a gambler and like everyone said, you never know what the future holds. Today might be all of our last days.

1. Take option number 2.

2. Either slow down or get a faster car that can outrun copters.

This about made coffee come out my nose. Did you say that knowing I live less then 30 mins from a casino? and that my favorite game is Roulette? :lr :lr

Re: Speeding Ticket Advice Needed- Opinions?

I just pay the fine, and go my way. As long as I don't have more than one infraction on my record in any running three year period, it doesn't effect my rates. I have a heavy foot, and know it. I generally get a speeding ticket every 3 years or so. I'm actually overdue. If you have nothing on your record, and are generally NOT a speeder, I'd go with the $25 option. For me, It is faster, and overall cheaper to just try and not get more than one ticket every three years.

Good luck!!

What would you do?

The LAST thing I'd do is ask my insurance agent for advice regarding such matters. While you may keep such a matter of your record in the long run, he/she still knows about it. Disclosing a driving infraction to your agent is like talking about fight club IMO. This is info you can get from the prosecutor.

I agree with your statement, but neglected to say the agent is a personal family friend of my family...

I'd just pay the speeding ticket.
I'm the slowest driver in the world, and haven't gotten a ticket in forever, so I wouldn't sweat it. I honestly never heard of the options you outlined.

I say create another poll. That always works. ;)

Re: Speeding Ticket Advice Needed- Opinions?

Have you been to court yet? Or were you just planning on paying the ticket? Does all this have to do with insurance rates? If you still need to go to court present the judge your good driving record, chances are they may drop the speed and/or the fine, if the speed goes down insurance may not go up that much. But I don't know the laws of your state.

Re: Speeding Ticket Advice Needed- Opinions?

If u can afford #2 then do #2 you got off easy. Here that ticket woulda been at least $200

P.S. here, if u had been going 8mph faster you could've gone to jail.

In North Carolina it's 20 or more over. I know this from experience! :D Well, didn't go to jail, but had to follow the State trooper to the Union County courthouse to post my bond and was given a mandatory court appearance, which I had a lawyer appear on my behalf. All in all, that was a very expensive lesson to learn.

What Justin said got me thinking. Just how many inmates at any given county jail are actually serving time for speeding/reckless driving? I'd think they'd save the jail space for other people...

In Illinois, you get taken in for 40+ MPH over...but you get processed and bonded out, they don't give you jail time.

Though I hear you, I must confess I'd sooner see reckless drivers locked up for endangering the safety of himself and others than see some harmless pothead locked up for getting caught toking a doob.

But that's just me.

It really depends. You CAN go. Doesn't mean you will. Some are given a notice to appear, basically a court date.

This. Speeding that fast is unsafe. I think if someone killed your kid or something in an accident because of their recklessness, you would see it differently

Re: Speeding Ticket Advice Needed- Opinions?

I can say I work with people on tickets if I issue them and they fight them. Usually they don't want the points so we can agree to plead it down to a non-moving infraction. About $100 and no points.

Come to MI. Speed alone will not get you in the clink. Reckless driving will and speed alone is not considered reckless according to the statue.

Mind you, now an idiot who thought he saw his buddy's SUV and swerved into my oncoming lane on purpose to scare what he thought was his friend (there's the reckless intent :D ) years ago found out just what his mistake cost him. Trip to the clink, fines and the impound fee. :bh

Personally I'd go the cheap way. Provided you can ease your foot off the gas pedal.
