&)@#&(^$ !!!! I'm soo MAD!!!

So, I just went to the mailbox...my MAW should be arriving today.

This is what greeted me in the box. It says that it was received this way at my PO. Looking for some advice...what do you guys think I should do? Should I open it to see if the sticks are ok? Or should I go BIT#H about it? I was really looking forward to these sticks that I haven't had.

It really ticks me off...how can a box get this destroyed? It seriously looks like it got stuck in a conveyor belt, shut in a door, ran over by a truck, and then for good fun dropped and jumped on!

If anyone has any experience with this, let me know.

umm usually when a package is received in this condition by the PO they stamp it stating it was received in that condition. if its not stamped it could mean that it got damaged on the way to you.

I think that's what the RECEIVED UNSEALED AT... stamp is. :sh

yeah, it was stamped....so does this mean...HAHAHA it was like this before we got it, you're screwed!

jetsman2806 05-30-2013 02:09 PM

Re: &)@#&(^$ !!!! I'm soo MAD!!!

looking closer at the 3rd pic i am seeing the stamp, so you can ask the person who shipped it to check with the office that sent it off. send the pics so they can have an idea of the damage. check the contents also and send pics to whoever sent it to you.

As for seeing this before...not in my experience. sucks. I'm assuming the sticks inside were all ruined?

i dealt with something similar before the company that shipped it when they saw the pics i sent to them immediately sent off another package to replace the one ruined by the PO. Not all companies would do this though.

Re: &)@#&(^$ !!!! I'm soo MAD!!!

I've never understood the whole "we received it this way" excuse. When exactly are they suggesting it was damaged? When the customer brought the package in to be mailed? If not (and lets be honest, it wasn't...) it was still damaged in the hands of the USPS. It's their fault. It is the USPS' job to safely deliver mail. I should NOT have to insure everything I send, THEY should have to insure everything I send. Their job is to deliver, it should be their fault if they mess up.

I'm also VERY pissy with the PO this year. In the last 9 months, (roughly) I've lost 3 packages.

That bad part is, it was cigars...they are damaged...but the issue is...most post offices swear that cigars are not allowed to be shipped, so I have to show them where it just says cigarettes. So it's a big mess when you mention cigars to the PO.

I'm getting a shot of the sticks now, since it's not likely I can get anything from this, I might as well unbox it.

Totally agree! It was stamped at my location...which is even funnier. If it was stamped at the departure location, then I could understand, but who else touches it between locations other than USPS!

I see that no one yet has suggested that you call the local post office, speak to the postmaster, and ask what options you may have.

So I won't suggest that either.

I will tell you another thing about "insurance". I thought I was doing my clientele a favor by heavily insuring packages
bound for them. But if you think you will ever get reimbursement for something you do not have receipts on, or worse,
something 'illegal' in the eyes of the USPS, then you might as well cross your fingers, turn around three times and jump,
cause you are screwed any other way. Not only have I stopped insuring packages, I have stopped SHIPPING them, too.
If you enter a system where you can't win, where the cards are all in the hands of the house, you are a fool to play.
Took me almost ten years of wasting money on insurance to find this out the hard way. And so did my 'client'. Bottom
line is, you get the exact same treatment whether you insure or not....you get NOTHING. So why insure?

I haven't heard that you can't ship cigars, it's not one of the questions they ask when you ship (verbally ask), if you received a damaged package in the mail you can bring the package and contents to the local post office to fill out a claim, you will need to provide proof of value etc., but as long as you have the box and all packing material take it down to the post office and they will help you out.

Sorry to hear about your cigars Cole. If the shipper did not buy insurance, then you're probably sol, and while you might find a sympathetic employee or postmaster, I don't know how much they can do without proof of insurance, as only express mail comes with $100 base insurance included. Try and see, you never know, you might get something. At the very least, you have nothing left to lose.

Possibly FedEx.
http://news.van.fedex.com/fedex-sign...postal-service

Some of the semi-trucks are also contracted, but I don't know if they have access to the inside of the 40' containers, and might simply be hauling sealed trailers between hubs.

Re: &)@#&(^$ !!!! I'm soo MAD!!!

If the shipper purchased insurance, it is the shippers responsibility to pursue a claim with the PO. Anyone who tells you otherwise if full of $hit.

Also, if this were not a MAW/PIF and was a monetary transaction (WTS) then the onus is on the seller to make sure the goods are delivered as expected. Is it the shipper's/seller's fault for the damage? Of course not. But it IS their responsibility to make sure that goods were provided to the buyer for something they accepted money for.

Excellent point about insurance as long as your 'client' gets what he paid for.

Agreed Peter :tu Being that it is a MAW, I'm not too terribly worried about it because I know I didn't pay for something (well, other than the sticks I sent). And even it was a WTS, being that we are all brothers here, I probably wouldn't pursue unless it was a vendor/retailer on here. But the difference between MAW and WTS is definitely noted.

There may not be any recourse from USPS.
But if I were the sender, I would send another package. That's the way I've been treated and that is the way I would treat others.

As someone who does a TON of business with the USPS, let me say that happily this does not happen often. That being said, there is nothing the USPS can or will do for you except commiserate. Brad is correct, insuring does little if the package is lost or damaged unless you have a picture of the item with a price next to it- like from a catalog. Then, maybe you'd get some redress. But, you've heard the expression: "slower than molasses in wintertime?"

Peter is correct: the BOTL here who sent you this will likely make good on it- heck, I would if I had these stix!

Tough luck, and extremely annoying, I know! I once got a book that appeared to have been left to soak in diesel oil. Yummy!

I'm sure you'll get your MAW one way or t'other, brother!

Cole - it was not my intent to hint or pressure anyone into re-sending. My point was more about obligations in a sale. If anyone took my post to imply that the wish granter SHOULD re-send, they are mistaken.

Holy crap I just threw up in my mouth a little. I feel horrible even if it was out of my control. I don't bother insuring packages as every other time I have and a package got damaged I pretty much was told tough chit. So now I save the buck and change as their fail level is usually pretty low.
Cole, I will definitely get another package out to you. Unfortunately, that was my last Mexican Experiment and will see if my local still has any Zombie Super Shots left. If not I will replace them with something else yummy. My apologies brother. I'm not sure what would bother me more, getting a package in that condition or when a package goes rogue in my mail carriers possession(Which has happened sadly and I still swear that prick smoked my cigars.)

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but my experience differs.

I have had packages arrive via UPS and FedEx as damaged as the OP's package and have had poor results in getting the carrier to accept any claim against them for damage. I always try to work it out with the supplier or customer that I am dealing with. Things are always resolved in this manner with much less frustration than working with the carrier.

I am sorry that the OP's package arrived damaged. The best thing to do is work with the sender to get a replacement.

The thing I like, no love about the USPS is that I can send a package anywhere in the US and have it arrive in 2-3 business days for a low price. I think that this is a fantastic deal and none of the other carriers can come even close to doing this for even double the price.

Yes, the USPS has problems. Who doesn't? Especially when you are a essentially a private company that is managed/governed by Congress...

'Nuff said. All the usual disclaimers apply. YMMV. Just my :2

Re: &)@#&(^$ !!!! I'm soo MAD!!!

Cole, I didn't read the whole thread so I don't know what advice you've gotten.
If there's no insurance, going to the PO won't help, they're held harmless.

Personally, over the years I've shipped gazillions of packages. If the item is high value, I always insure it on my dime whether the buyer wants it or not.
On everything else, I sort of self-insure. I've saved so much over the years by not insuring that if something gets destroyed, I can certainly afford to replace it.
The way I see it is that if I sell you something, it's MY responsibility that you get it complete, perfect, and in just the condition you purchased it. If I sent the smokes to you, I'd just replace them. If I didn't have the same thing, I'd make good however we worked it out.
I know that businesses nowadays try to push that responsibility off on the buyer, and it's 100% bullsh1t. That way of thinking has started working it's way down to people shipping person to person, and it's still wrong.

For instance, I bought a puppy a few weeks ago. I paid ahead of time. Had I got there and the breeder handed me a puppy that looked like your box and said "you should have bought insurance" there'd be a big problem. His responsibility was to deliver the puppy to me in good puppy shape.

I don't know if the seller offered to replace the smokes or what, and I mean him no malice, I don't even know who sent the smokes. My words have nothing to do with him, just the way things are nowadays.
Many people refuse to take responsibility for their actions anymore, hoping to blame someone else. You don't find that here at CA, and it's one of the things that makes dealing with our brothers such a pleasure.
I make sure I find like-minded businesses in the real world where I can buy stuff. It keeps my blood pressure down. :)
I hope you get (got) this all resolved, my friend!!! :tu
