2012 MLB Mid season award winners
Most of the Teams have completed 81 games.
At the halfway point who gets your vote for the leagues top honors? My Picks MVP AL : Josh Hamilton NL : Joey Votto Cy Young AL: David Price NL: RA Dickey Rookie of the year AL: Mike Trout NL: Bryce Harper I went with Hamilton over Miguel Cabrera because, as usual Cabrera has done it so quietly. I would really like to see the Tigers surge and Cabrera win it, but to do that, they are going to need another bat. If in the end Votto wins, he should thank Matt Kemp's hamstring in his acceptance speech. I went with Price because he's 11-4 on a team that doesn't hit. His SO and ERA are right up there with the rest of the leaders. Who are your choices? |

So should everybody in our fantasy league. :D |
Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners
I'm pretty much with you on all of that Dom, but I'm up in the air on a couple.
I'm not sure if he qualifies, but if he does Yu Darvish has to be AL ROY. And not to be a complete homer but I think if the Mets end up in the playoffs and he keeps playing the way he is, David Wright is the NL MVP, and Cano has to be right up there for AL MVP. |

It doesn't hurt that he's leading the AL in Avg. either. :) |
Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners
Trout has been awesome - I think Darvish has too. Its a toss up, but considering that Trout is truly a rookie, I'm changing my vote and going with him.
AL ROY - Mike Trout NL ROY - Bryce Harper NL CY - R.A. Dickey AL CY - David Price NL MVP - David Wright Al MVP - Robinson Cano |
Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners
MVP
AL : Robinson Cano NL : David Wright Cy Young AL: Chris Sale NL: RA Dickey Rookie of the year AL: Mike Trout NL: Bryce Harper Trout and Harper are no brainers. Although Darvish has had a good year, the Rangers score tons for him and the White Sox are hit and miss. Without Wright and Dickey...the Mets are in the cellar. Me voting for a Yankee?? WTF??? :r :r |

Mac, as a Tigers fan it pains me to agree with you about Sale for the mid-season Cy Young...but I do agree with you.

Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners
I wanted to bring this to the top.
I keep hearing growing support for Mike Trout for AL MVP. I cant for the life of me fathom how anybody would vote for him over Miguel Cabrera. As it stands, Miggy is 1 homer shy of a triple crown! There hasn't been a triple crown winner in 40+ years! Am I that far off base? Where is everyone else on this issue? |
Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners
Not making a case against Miggy. But, what Mike Trout has done for the Angels, I can see why he is being mentioned. He has slowed down and Miggy has stepped up in the last few weeks. I think Miggy will win it and probably deserves it.
Adrian Beltre should get a mention, though. Miggy can hit, but can't hold Beltre's jock at 3rd. |
Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners
Trout is an awesome player, and will be for many years. He is an easy ROTY choice. But Cabrera is MVP, anything else would be a a mistake.

Trout has been better than advertised, and phenomenal. Any other year I'd say go for it, but Miggy is the MVP if he wins the triple crown, or comes real close. |
Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners
Miggy gets my vote...hands down. 1HR shy of the Triple Crown...no brainer!! he started out the season kind of slow...but since the All Star break he has been on fire. Not a more feared hitter in the league IMHO.

Gave up 22 less hits, and 8 less runs than Dickey. Not sure why you think Kershaw isn't qualified? |

That year C.C. Sabathia had 21, David price and John Lester had 19 wins. |
Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners
Dickey - Record: 20-6 ERA: 2.73 SO: 230 WHIP: 1.05 Complete Games: 5 Shutouts: 3 Innings Pitched: 233.2
Kershaw - Record: 14-9 ERA: 2.53 SO: 229 WHIP: 1.02 Complete Games: 2 Shutouts: 2 Innings Pitched: 227.2 Major difference is that the Dodgers actually had an offense to support Kershaw (we all know the Mets offense was lethargic at best). Dickey won 27% of the Mets games this year...and that doesn't even count the games the bullpen blew for him. Kershaw won 16% of Dodgers games this year. Granted Kershaw was hurt for a month, but Dickey was dominant all year. IMHO Kershaw shouldn't even be included in the top three. |
Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners

This season the Dodgers lost 9 games that Kershaw pitched where he gave up 2 or less runs, The Mets only lost 4 of Dickey's. And since when did leading the MAJOR LEAGUES in ERA not mean you were DOMINANT? Quote:

I would also like to take this opportunity to cast my vote for Manager of the Year:
Miguel Cabrera. |

I figured Dickey had this one wrapped up. Great year for him and a great comeback story from washed up to great knuckleballer.

The Giants were 12th this year in runs scored and look how they turned out. Hell, the Rox were in the top ten, and look at how they turned out. They didn't provide enough offense to protect their pitchers in the long run. When you're down 10-0, the opposing team is going to put in their garbage relief, which usually results in the opposing team putting up a bunch of useless runs. I didn't follow the Mets this year, nor the Dodgers, but I'm willing to bet that the Mets racked up a bunch of useless runs to pad their stat this year. Maybe Mac can enlighten us more in regards to his team. |

You think Kershaw deserved it over Dickey? Or are you just breaking balls? |
Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners

If Kershaw would've won the award, I wouldn't think it was an injustice. He finished second in the voting. It's not like I'm here saying Cliff Lee should've won. Do I think Dickey deserves the Cy Young? Yes, but he was not a run away, lock for the award, winner, the way Verlander was last year. And obviously, neither was Kershaw. The reasons I favored Kershaw: I think the Dodgers had a worse offense than the Mets. They're the one national league team I keep a close eye on, due to Donny baseball, and without Kemp, they're awful with the stick. They were carried by their pitching. The other big reason I was in the Kershaw camp, I think he finished stronger than Dickey. Dickey had a monster first half, but I always give an edge to someone who's surging, rather than fading. I'm happy for R.A., and I do think he was a Cy Young caliber pitcher this year, just not the only one! ;) |
Re: 2012 MLB Mid season award winners
I can get that Dom. The Met offense was fairly horrific at times. I watched most of RA's games this season, and the guy was pretty much the only reason they won more than 65 games this season. He put them in position to win every start but 1. How many guys can say that?
