Padron to add a 60RG
Looks like Padron is going to be adding a new size to their Padron 1964 Anniversary Series.
6 x 60 rg "No. 4" http://www.cigaraficionado.com/webfe.../show/id/16353 |
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
I saw this today on FB. I for one am excited about it, even though the "clown" cigar naysayers will say otherwise. But hey, they will sell the sh!t out of them and I bet they will be great!

Re: Padron to add a 60RG
I heard it a regular production of the Smoke Inn 15th anny cigar.

Re: Padron to add a 60RG
60RG.. Really?
I'd buy Padron Anny lanceros |
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
My guess is they sell like hotcakes.
Padron has the reputation of making high quality cigars that sell very well so I can't see these being any different. It's no secret that within the US, demand for larger RG has been trending upward for sometime now. IIRC I was reading an article the other day that Diamond Crown was the first 54 RG cigar and that was only in 1995, so I can't see it being too much of a deterrent. I for one would rather smoke something with a smaller RG but I'm Canadian :p |

While I tend to smoke smaller cigars these days I will probably give these a try. I had a couple of the Smoke Inn specials and they were pretty good. I've never had a bad Padron and most of them are quite excellent. Just my :2 |

A 60rg '64 model will sell just fine. Just like the 60rg 7000's. The '64 Imperials are 54rg and the '26 No. 9's are 56rg so a step up to a 60rg in either line isn't that much of a stretch, imo. |

Re: Padron to add a 60RG
booooooooooooooooooooooooooh. Less 60rg more lancero!
|
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
i just cant get into the 60 rings.
much above 50 and i dont like how it feels in my hands. ive been a huge fan od coronas and lonesdales as of late. |
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
Isn't the No. 4 a 42 x 5 :D
|
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
There are certain smokes in 60RG that are wonderful, others not so much.
The '64s are betting in medium ring guage, 40-50, and the 15th Ann. tasted much like a '64, but was not the same - and not in a good way. Yes, would love to see a '64 lancero. |
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
I'm not a huge 60 RG guy either, but the Smoke Inn SI-15 was my number 3 cigar of the year last year. This cigar (if it's the same) is fantastic.
here's the review I posted on Asylum awhile back if anyone is bored and wants a read. http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showth...ghlight=Padron Dan |
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
Padron might be the only 60 ring cigar I'd smoke, but that's only because it would be box-pressed and I trust Padron to deliver what I pay for.

Re: Padron to add a 60RG
I know a lot of guys here don't prefer 60RG cigars including myself but that size does sell very well. If it didn't Padron would not be throwing their hat in the ring. I believe this stick started out as a limited release for Smoke Inn and the Maduros sold out pretty quickly if I remember right. My guess is the frequency in which these were sold was enough to catch their attention and realize they are ignoring a big corner of the market. I know in my local shops they will sell out quickly as do most of the 60RG sized sticks. To the average consumer I think they feel they are getting more for their money when comparing the price of a 60 ringer compared to your typical Toro or Robusto.
As much as some guys like to hate on the 60RG I think they are here to stay as the market for them is very strong. |
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
Actually, this is good news, as my girlfriend's cat Smokers has been asking about a premium with a 60 RG.

Re: Padron to add a 60RG
The SI-15's were awesome, and continue to get better. I managed to gather up a pretty nice pile to tuck away.
I'm glad they're tweaking the blend away from the SI-15 blend, I'm hoping it'll be a more standard 1964 profile, not that the SI-15 wasn't excellent. "Padrón has made a 6 by 60 Anniversary before, but it was a special release for a retail shop. Jorge Padrón said this cigar would have a different blend and different taste." I'm with you guys, I'd go apesh1t over a 1964 maddie lancero or a 1926 maddie lancero. Even the nats would be phenomenal, not that I'd bother with them. :D |
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
I have a thought on the trend toward 60RG-and-larger cigars, but one of my new year's resolutions is to less abrasive...so I won't.

Re: Padron to add a 60RG
I had to double check to make sure that it wasn't April 1st.
I still enjoy a padron anni now and again but I doubt I would grab a 60rg one. |
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
I'm holding out for the 64RG. ;)

Laugh, Tom, but on the tour Friday I saw a 7x70 at one of the manufacturers' places. It is experimental, but...very real.

Re: Padron to add a 60RG
There's a JFR 7x70 already out. Not sure who makes it.

I don't know who this pretty lady is, but she is about to smoke a Perdomo Immenso, a 6x70 regular-production cigar. |
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
7 x 70? damn. makes my jaw hurt just thinking about it.

Re: Padron to add a 60RG
I hope they box press these new ones. Honestly, the SI-15's are stellar, even if they are ridiculously sized. I wish I had at least 20 more put up.
|
Re: Padron to add a 60RG
Honestly haven't been overly impressed with Padron.

I am no threat to your beloved jaw breakers. I'll be busy scooping up all the dainty little coronas, panatellas, and lanceros.

As my favorite cigar maker, I think this is one I will sit out on. Bout to take the plunge to the other side anyway. Anything 1964 is always amazing.

Instead of making 5-6 lanceros or little coronas they just make 1 60 ringer.

Guys, remember that crazes like this pass. Candela was once the favored wrapper for cigars in America. Anyone making tons of Candelas anymore? no.

Re: Padron to add a 60RG
The SI-15 was a great creation and looking forward to the new 60RG. The SI-15 maduros are gone and I'm sure the naturals won't be long behind. Plus this with the new Number 4, we should be able to get them locally.
