Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Anybody else anticipating the Skyrim release in November? I haven't played the other Elder Scrolls games, but watched a trailer for this one and it looks pretty amazing. I'm not much of a "gamer", but got hooked on the RPG's after Fallout 3. Hopefully this one has similar gameplay to Fallout.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Elder Scrolls is a DEEP DEEP game and I think Skyrim will be as well. I have heard that it could take 150+ hours to beat the game and see EVERYTHING in it.
I am looking forward to it, I was not really a fan of the Elder Scrol series, but I am liking the way this looks. |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I used to love RPG games, but it was too much of a time sinc for me. I need to work on the house and other things before I can play games.
Unless I lose my job...that gave me plenty of time to play games then. |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I'll be playing this for sure. I doubt 150+ hours though.
I beat oblivion in like ~35-45 I believe. I hope there is much less redundancy and a better difficulty adjustment though. Better combat would be nice. |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I think I had about 60 hours into Oblivion and saw just about everything. This is one of the games I have a deposit on... sadly they all come out around the same time

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I spent a what seemed like a lifetime playing and modding Morrowind and Oblivion. I see no reason to change that now. Bring on Skyrim! It is after all one of the reasons I bought this laptop.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I never could really get into Oblivion. Then again - I had to have gone to the wrong place. I started up and ended up somewhere that I got killed over and over.
I'll probably pick up Skyrim anyway. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
With Oblivion I discovered late that leveling up my Major class also leveled up the monsters. I got pretty far in and had my arse handed to me. Some reward for leveling up. I checked out the Gamespot primer and learned that I should make my minor class what I wanted my major class to be, and seldom level up the skills from my major class. I redid everything this way and ended up with a light armor wearing, invisible character. I haven't finished since.
Skyrim is already ordered and payed for. IDK when I'll play it, though. |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I put over 200 hours into Oblivion. Once I leveled up I had no problem killing pretty much anything. Sneak mode and hit them with an arrow. Pretty much dropped anything.
Looking forward to Skyrim, but probably be a year or two before I'll play it. Need a new computer to run it. :( |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
If you already have/played Oblivion, here's a mod game that I actually enjoyed better than Oblivion. Not as much content but still got almost a hundred hours in. All the voice acting is in German but the subtitles and menus are all in English. HIGHLY recommend, especially since it's free. :D http://nehrim.wikia.com/wiki/Nehrim_Wiki

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Strange you guys had a problem with Oblivion, I beat the game with a level 52 Redguard and had zero problems.
I just stacked all the best gear I could, did a lot of gates and I believe I had around 900-1000 life. There was a trick, save right before you finish a gate, and you can load till you get the exact item you want :D |

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Just got the latest PC Gamer where they did a hands on with the game. They loved it, looks freakin awesome, even larger in scale than Oblivion. Man, this is going to suck up a couple years.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Playing an assassin I just got squashed with reckless abandon. After a while it was just too deep and got boring. Fallout 3 was almost too big, New Vegas I just dropped after 10 hours or so.
I used to be a die-hard one sitting 24 hour RPGer. Just can't work up the energy. So yeah, I'm looking forward to Skyrim :-) What? |

This one and the new Assassin's Creed will be awesome. I can't wait for Mass Effect 3 too :banger If Diablo III isn't pay to play (which I'm sure it is) you guys won't see me for 3-5 years :r :D |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Out tomorrow. Wish I had a computer that could run it the way it's meant to be run. :D

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I'm hoping my rig is sufficient. Should be, I put it together in June. I'll at least have a reasonable go of it.
Knowing the thing is preloaded on my box and I have (checks clock) 160 minutes before unlock is KILLING me. |

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I have it already paid for with trade in credit at Game Stop. I'm leaning toward not picking it up, though, because I won't have time to play it for at least a month. By then I could just buy a used copy. I got the call earlier about arriving at 10PM and leaving with the game at midnight. Very tempting...

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Lame looks like I'll need a new video card before I can play this :td :td
|
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Yep. Hope to upgrade the computer next Christmas. Then I'll buy my copy for 25 bucks with the expansion packs. :D

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Going to wait on buying this game, bought Oblivion when it was GOTY with all the expansions. By then all the little bugs were fixed.
Plus, I don't want to spend the thousand or so dollars to upgrade my mid quarter 2010 rig. |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I'm going to wait at least a couple months for bug-fixes, too. Besides, still more to do in Oblivion, in the meantime.
It'll probably be a good year before we see bargain-bin pricing on this one, though. |

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Great game. In 7 hours of playing I've only run into one bug - it crashed on me. I have only done a couple of quests. I've spent most of that time exploring and crawling through dungeons. Gorgeous game and the controls are spot on. :tu

Plus, have to buy three monitors. . . Stupid latest n' greatest upgrade tech bug |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
That video card will really play it on high?
No $hit I see them for like $95 bucks. I've got 4 gigs of ram I'm probably going to get 8 gigs but do you get anything out of having 16 gigs of ram? |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Gotta do more research, wee.
Maybe I'll just do my usual thing and salvage monitors, I don't need new ones anyway. . . |

Really - the 16 gigs is over kill on ram. 8 gigs would be more than enough. But I figure if something is worth doing it is worth overdoing. |

Interesting, I was told (by some stupid site I will no longer trust) that I couldn't play it. I installed it, it told me I could indeed play it on medium quality. Fine by me for now. WOW are the graphics stunning. I might have problems later in the game, who knows but I'll look into snagging a pair of those video cards or maybe some other one(s) sometime soon. Thanks though :tu |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
DAMMIT! I did what I always do and outsmarted myself yet again.
I trained up sneak early and gimped myself. I think I can recover if I can figure out how to train up archery and 1h just a little more, to hit a couple of those perks. quick question though: Any of you guys have trouble with the "Find the redguard woman" quest line? Without spoiling anything: The pickpocketed jail cell key won't open the cell. I'm stumped. |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Hmmm didn't do that side quest yet. I'm level 9 right now. So far it seems my build is going great.
|
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I've been playing it a bit on the PS3 and I will probably not have time for MW3 (which I also have) for a long time. I'm up to a level 15 now and have not even scratched the surface.

:lr
Damn man, that's awesome! |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I was just noodling around after the first couple main quests (got to High Hrothgar and that's about it.) I did the Companions line up to... a point, then stopped. Then I started "Walkin da erf" (in the immortal words of Jules Winfield) and came across the mage's guild. Their quest line is just awesome. So I sorta got sucked in to that.
I... I don't think I have any depth perception left. #nerd |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
must.....get.....Skyrim
|
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
(figured I'd move Skyrim convo from the Games thread.)
My biggest problem now is really cash for materials. A fully loaded loot run at L26/27 (or wherever I am) generally only brings in a thou or two at most, and that's only if I spend time agonizing about what to drop. It kills me to leave goodies behind. But I really don't want to console mode my encumberance limits. Alchemy has been good to me as far as cash goes. Components weigh 0.1 generally and potions sell pretty good. But I just pick them up as I go. Wandering around in the woods looking for unmolested bushes would make me tear my eyes out. |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I make money by smithing. I'm a level 81 or so smith now. Any weapons or armor that I loot, I improve before selling. I've got my cash up to 12k.....which isn't a lot, but not bad.
|
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Last night I noodled around a bit and found that iron daggers enchanted with drain health sold for several hundred gold. So I made... I dunno 40-50 of them.
Now my biggest concern is running out of soul gems. |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
So, what level and how many hours is everyone at? I'm at level 42 with my smithing up to 100. I have no idea how many hours of gameplay.....way too many. Also, the lag on the PS3 is annoying. Hoping the update next week helps that issue.
|
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I went ahead and created a new character. Both of mine are 100 smithing
Level 37 Orc Sword/Shield Level 33 Khajiit Sneak/Bow, working on daggers soon but I haven't found a need for them yet. Really digging the sneaky Khajiit. I never die. Arrows do HUGE damage. |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Early 30s, Stealth/Bow/1H Imperial.
Stealth pinned, lock picking and pickpocketing in the 50s (but those are a headache to level.) Smithing I think is in the 70s someplace. Enchantment and Alchemy are finally starting to come up pretty quickly. I really want to crank up the magic skills but I'll never have enough perk points to do the uber build (if only I knew what level cap really was) so I'll probably build another toon. |

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Do the Dark Brotherhood quests, Theives guild. Many caves in that line make you TONS of gold.
My Khajiit has 40,000 gold and a house in White Run with all the furnishings. I find that no matter how much I spend I keep gaining gold. Spent 8,000 last level training. |
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I'm on deployment right now and everyone on the ship is playing this game. Definitely another treat from Bethesda. Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas should keep me busy for the next 7 months.
|
Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
So how worried should I be about gimping faction by doing things like Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood?
Still haven't picked a side in the war. The Thalmor suck but Ulfric's a dick. |
