Just ordered a new Cutter Cuban Crafters.

This bad boy is on sale right now, anyone have one and want to chime in or tell me I made a mistake by getting this? I like that there is really no way to make a bad cut with this....thanks to Cigarobsession for turning me on to it.

Re: Just ordered a new Cutter Cuban Crafters.

I have metal ones with a stop in behind the blades like that. The little hole is for beli's and such, so you can get a deeper cut. I know this goes against religion here, but as far as I'm concerned, they're the best cutters I can get.
Perfect cut every time, perfect depth, and you can take a little more off with ease, if you need to. I can't do that with my xikars or palios, I just make a crooked squashy mess.
The only problem is that I haven't found the two or three I have since I moved. I think I know where they are, just haven't dug for them yet. Those were the ones I always used around the house and shop and deck, the others went in my travel humis because they were much lighter.
I have not tried these plastic ones with a stop in the back. I wouldn't expect them to be real durable, Mickey. Let us know how that works out. If you like the way they work, find some metal ones. I think you'll extra like them. :tu

Thanks for the tip Scott, yeah maybe the one that was on Cigarobsession (can't remember his name right now) is metal....but it was only $14.99 so still a steal lol

Re: Just ordered a new Cutter Cuban Crafters.

I got one as a gift from kickerb. It sucks. His is great. I need to send mine back. It never worked right.

kickerb 09-28-2011 11:44 AM

Re: Just ordered a new Cutter Cuban Crafters.

Yeah, I'm really starting to dislike mine. The blades don't close tight leaving a small gap between the blades. I also get the cigar cut 'bump' more often now than before. I wouldn't recommend it at this point. Especially since Justin's one was a piece of garbage.

There are better options IMO. But, considering the price point, it's not a bad deal.

kickerb 09-28-2011 11:48 AM

Re: Just ordered a new Cutter Cuban Crafters.

Also, to me it takes off too much of the cap. Does good with larger ring gauge cigars, but will butcher the small rig gauges.

Re: Just ordered a new Cutter Cuban Crafters.

Hmmm, thanks for your feedback Bryan......I really just like the idea of how the hole stops the cigar to give you that "perfect" cut......I will see how it goes, I love my punch, and I haven't figured out the whoe cutting thing yet so I thought this would be "perfect." :D

Do any other cutters have this type of hole to prevent the jagged mess some of us get?

There's a really good point that I missed. They aren't good for really small rings, the cut is too deep unless you hold the cigar back from the bottom. It'll take all the caps off and square the end.
I've never had a "bump" issue with the metal ones, but it stands to reason. Plastic probably can't stand up to the force required to cut very many cigars without giving way.

I also have one of these ridiculous things from Cuban Crafters. I've never used it, but it's fun to play with. It'd make a better izmel than a cigar tool.

That Cohiba was the very first cutter I ever owned that wasn't a plastic store freebie, Mick. I'm a bit sentimental on it. :)
I paid a good bit more than $6.95, too. I'm thinking around 25 bucks shipped on ebay.

Ouch, that's pricey.

Honestly, it didn't take me long to figure out the way of the Palio. Last cutter I will buy. Most likely, anyways. Now I need to get a good lighter. Though now that I've learned how to properly purge, my Ronsons and Lotus are working great!

Re: Just ordered a new Cutter Cuban Crafters.

I have my eye on a Xikar Executive dual flame, but I can't find a decent price yet....need to check with my local B&M still.

Speaking of which and not wanting to start a nother thread which is better: a dual or triple flame, my cheapo triple flame that I have and love (built in punch is why I love it) seems to run out of fuel too often, unlike my single flame Ronsons.

Palios pinch the web between my thumb and forefinger and make me bleed and curse. Strangely, that adds nothing positive to my cigar experience. :D

BTW, I usually [unch smaller RG's, or I just don't put as much cigar into it. Just because it has the plate, doesn't mean you have to use it.

Well, they do use three times the fuel... ;)

I prefer a single flame for most occasions. Unless I've going camping or something, then I bring the triple flame and the can of fuel. Single flame are way more accurate for touchups. Triple flames are awesome for lighting larger RG sticks, or if you're in a windy area. They both have their purposes. Ive never used a dual flame.

My single flame tends to burn my thumb at times, especially during the beginning torching of the foot.

I have two friends that have the same cutter and swear by it. I have a similar Liga cutter from from a Drew Estates event but prefer either my Palio or Xi2 from Xikar.

You could get a single flame that fires away from the ignitor button thingy (that is the technical term, right?). I don't think I could burn my thumb with mine. Incredibly helpful when lighting up after a few (or more) brewskies. :D

I have the one above as well as this one http://www.amazon.com/Cuban-Crafters...7239077&sr=1-3. They both work great and I have never had any issues with them taking off too much of the cap -- but I also don't rest every cigar against the stop.

Having said that, I have a number of other cutters and I like all of them. The nice thing about the Cuban Crafters cutters is that they work very well and are very resonably priced.

Yeah, he said he just got 10 of them in the mail....I need to look at that site more, but I'm a litttle apprehensive about ordering any lighters in case they are junk, I guess they are good for bombs though.

It's working great so far. Not sure for how long, but at $2.70 you can afford a few.

Re: Just ordered a new Cutter Cuban Crafters.

I have this Cuban Crafters cutter and I'm a little disappointed with it. It's tough to get both blades to move together on mine, so one blade is more dominant and takes the cigar from the center of the opening. I think there may just be too much play in the blades and they don;t stay completely parallel with the rest of the cutter.

Plastic is easier on the digits. And if your worried about it breaking: LIFETIME GUARANTEE: This quality cutter is guaranteed for as long as you own it. If it should ever break or fail to function as expected, simply return it and include a self-addressed stamped envelope. It will be replaced free of charge. This is the last cutter that you will ever buy!

I think you got a heckuva deal

Hey Mickey I the all steel one (CUBAN CRAFTERS PERFECTO CUTTER) and it is the best! You made a great purchase. For that price I would have bought 2 and when the one got dull...ALL cutters do, switch it out send the dull one back....and on and on and on. I have had Palio's, and just about every other one made... and the Cuban Crafters is the best.

Exactly! On small sticks I usually use a punch anyways. Don't need to take the top of the cap off.

Not really. They are small enough that you can send them first class which is really inexpensive (64 cents per ounce up to 13 ounces). I think mine weighs about 3 ounces; 5 with the box.

so .64 x 3 x 2ways?

Could probably just place them in an manilla envelope and put 2-3 stamps on there and be good right?

Only one way -- they pick up the return shipping. And .64 is the worst case. Best is whatever a first class stamp costs x weight in ounces.

That depends on how heavy the envelope is as these cutters have some nice edges on them that might pierce a standard envelope while being "processed" by the USPS. Also, you need one stamp per ounce.
