Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows part 2

My daughter is a HUGE Harry Potter fan. She read the series and now it's time for the movies. I picked up years 1-5 in HD DVD for about $25 from Amazon, nabbed year 6 in blu-ray from Target for a song, and just rented year 7 part 1 from Netflix in blu-ray. We've been watching one movie per night since Monday and will see year 7 part 1 on Sunday before going to the theater and seeing the last one.

The movie theater I chose to watch the final installment will be themed around the series. This includes the employees dressing up as characters, contests, horcruxes in concessions (?), and a possible meet and greet.

My point is that we're stoked. Is anyone else looking forward to this release?

I read the last book when it was released and still have it seared so much into my memory it's as though I just watched it on video. I have a hard time remembering if I saw it in the first movie or not. The movies have done very well at capturing the feel of the written stories. I never, NEVER, go to movies in the first week or so. I can't wait to see this one and will watch part 1 again just before seeing this last one.

Awesome MJ! It's still early. I don't think the crowds will be in until tonight. That, and the folks who probably lined up to catch midnight shows last night. Enjoy the show!

yeah I figured all the fangirls and fanboys came last night. The theatre is filling up nicely however. Half hour to go.

We had it on 30 screens in two cinemas last night. Every single one was sold out by last week. There was 3 am showings too. I didn't go. I can't wait to see it though.

Never been to a theater to watch a 3D film. Is this one worth it to see in 3D or should I just watch the regular version?

I just watched it tonight in 3D. I thought it was worth it. Then again, that's because it added some extra depth to something we already wanted to see. That made the extra 3$ per person surcharge worth it to me. Expect some eye-popping effects, but mostly a tad bit of extra depth. We got special HP glasses at our theater. That was kind of cool too.

Hey Mario! I watched it Saturday afternoon. I thought it was one of the best of the series. I can't do 3-D it makes me all motion sickness but if you say it's that good it might be worth it! I will be buying this when it comes out of Blu-Ray.

Thought it was great. There were a few things I wish stayed closer to the book like at the end on the bridge. Wish they would have talked to Dumbledore in his office.

I also can't wait for the blu ray pack

Andrew! Good to see ya! :banger I just think that the 3D enhanced this particular film which was already pretty well done.

Well, I'm glad that those who watched the movie and liked it did just that.

Mama and I saw it in 3-D and both liked it. However, we both still don't quite get the 3-D thing other than a quick way to add two bucks to your ticket price.

:r Thanks for putting this grin on my face, Hugh! :D My smile right now is worth even more than 2 bucks.

Right up there with 720p vs. 1080p in TVs. The average person won't see a difference... :2

I agree. I can only watch my movies at home right now in 720p or 1080i, but I can tell the better quality of a 1080p TV versus what I'm watching. Same for the 3D thing. I will still enjoy a movie without 3D, but the subtle immersing quality in some movies makes it that much better of an experience for me. The eye popping 3D movies are cool for what they intend to do, but I prefer the extra bit of depth that the more subtle 3D movies give.

D Box is another story. I would want an eye popper if I was shelling out a $10 surcharge on top of 3D for D Box.
