My New Purchase

http://www.lowes.com/webapp/wcs/stor...d=3262663&cId=

I'm gonna throw the humidor in it because I'm not comfortable with my temp being at ~75. Then eventually will convert it.

Re: My New Purchase

$109 for an 8-bottle cooler is kind of a lot to pay for only being able to hold about 100-150 cigars.

Here, 28-bottle edgestar for $115 delivered. 28 bottle should hold about 500 cigars

Forrest ("GolfNut") can make shelves for them too:

Re: My New Purchase

Wish I saw that before hand, oh well live and learn I suppose. If I don't like it I can take it back, I'm really just looking for something to throw my current 100 count humidor in and then a little extra space.

Re: My New Purchase

They don't always have them at that price, as those are open box items. Regular price is about $230 IIRC, which is still a very good deal.

I didn't know they had any open box items back in stock until I checked in the process of writing my post above.

SO my mission was accomplished so to speak. My humidor fits perfectly in the wine cooler. I'm not sure if I will keep it however. In order for it to fit I had to place the wine cooler on its side but it's elevated so air can still flow through. What are your thoughts?

I might have also misread the page and they were never in stock. I dunno.

Placing the appliance on it's side can cause issues with proper drainage of the condensation from the cooler.

If it were me, and I had to have a cooler, I'd return it and get a larger one.

Don't listen to Adam, he is not the first to post a one-off cooler at a great price. That cooler lasted about 10 minutes
before it was "Item no longer available". Open box items do that. He's just lookin out for ya. Man I wish I was not on
a DIVEST mode and could actively take on new, heavy stuff. I would love to have the Brad stash be in a
cooler, er a wine-cooler anyway.

My thoughts? Honestly I'm with everybody else. Take it back (Lowe's has a pretty good return policy), wait for a Compact Appliance sale, buy an EdgeStar 28 bottle for twice as much money, getting easily 3-4 times as much storage space. Your humidor will sit nicely in there with plenty more room for boxes you may decide to buy with all your new extra storage space :)

Or don't wait for CA to have a sale. Target sells the Avanti 28 bottle for ~$200. I used credit card rewards, got some Target gift cards, and ended up only paying $50 for the thing. Alternatively, look on craigslist and see if anybody in your area is selling a Vinotemp, Edgestar, or Avanti 28 bottle cooler, they all work great :tu

Well guys. I returned the 8 bottle and picked up a

34 bottle.

Re: My New Purchase

Is it compressor driven or thermoelectric? I only ask because I haven't seen many coolers above the 28 bottle size that are thermoelectric.

area51 07-05-2011 03:23 PM

Re: My New Purchase

I believe Thermoelectric

Brutus2600 07-05-2011 03:25 PM

Re: My New Purchase

Then you should be good to go :tu

Good choice by the way, you'll be more than happy with the upgrade I'm sure.

Actually now Im not sure haha

Re: My New Purchase

Other people might be more of an expert on this, but from what I've read (note: no personal experience) compressor coolers are harder to keep the RH at the right level because of the way compressors circulate the air (I think?). Anyway, apparently it's hard to keep the RH up. That's why you don't see many people using vinodors larger than 28bottles

Re: My New Purchase

Hmm alright, I'm gonna play around with this, how would I check if it is compressor?

Re: My New Purchase

You can use the compressor driven one just you cant run it cause it will have big rh swings.

On of my vino's is compressor driven and I just have it unplugged. It has always held humidity great for me.

Brutus2600 07-05-2011 03:36 PM

Re: My New Purchase

Compressors have bulky motor looking units on the back or bottom of the fridge. Thermoelectric are just fans (they look like computer fans).

area51 07-05-2011 03:37 PM

Re: My New Purchase

Ok it is compressor. The whole reason I started this journey is because of the heat down here, I have the humidor in there and the compressor on. I'm going to see if the humidor keeps the RH stable.

area51 07-05-2011 03:39 PM

Re: My New Purchase

My thinking is it should cool as I want it too, but hopefully not effect the internal RH in the humidor, make sense?

Drez 07-05-2011 03:39 PM

Re: My New Purchase

The hump in the bottom is where the compressor is at.

Re: My New Purchase

Is buying a vino like purchasing a nice coolidor? It seems that if you don't plug it in then it is the same thing as having a coolidor but it looks nicer right?

Brutus2600 07-05-2011 03:40 PM

Re: My New Purchase

Yeah, I mean...putting your humidor in there will keep it cool, and theoretically it should hold its RH just fine since it should be airtight. Just later down the line when you're storing boxes in there by themselves is when you'll be wanting a steady RH in the cooler itself.

If the humi is sealed I'm sure it should work. Seem like that would be great idea to test out with some Tupperware.

I bought a vino to actually use the cooling capabilities since I live in Texas and my house gets hot during the summer. During the winter I unplug it. And yes, I have a cooler too, but I keep that in the office, where I keep the vino in the kitchen, so yes, it does look nicer :)

Right on, I'll have to figure something out further down the line then.
