It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
So, with that in mind, what's a good conceal & carry first choice? Never had one to conceal and honestly never really looked at them. What do you use & like and of course why.
Thanks in advance for your input. Wade |

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
IMHO go with what you shoot best with. If you ever have to use your gun you should be very familiar with it and shoot very good with it.
Otherwise everyone will say Glocks, XD's, H&K's ...1911's....you'll hear just about every gun manufactured. With that said, For me 1911. :D |
Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
Glock 36, small, single stack with a punch... -(P

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
if you have friends who shoot, go see if you can go to the range and try what they have and see what you like. I'm a HUGE fan of the 1911 but shooting a lot of .45 will burn up your cigar budget. I also like glock and m&p but what I like you may hate. See if any local ranges rent guns to try.
the most important part of your rig, for keeping it concealed, will be the holster. check out http://atomicdogholsters.com/ and http://invictuskydex.com/ i use invictus and i know atomic dog and have seen/used his gear at the range. both are wonderful holsters. now I'm going to bow out before this turns into a fluster cluck |

Glock 27 for me

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
Congratulations! :tu :banger :) :wo :gn
Concealed carry is one of the best things you can do for yourself. In the future I would never move to a state that didn't give me the option to carry. I am carrying a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 38. They are easy to slip in your front pants pocket with a Desantis Nemesis holster and it looks like a wallet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od_m4Yz6Ivo |
Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
Check out Springfield Armory's XDm line. I have the 9 and love it.

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
Sawed off bazooka.
For those times when you REALLY want to make that first shot count. |
Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
Something all "Testosterone-y," that you could engrave with tattoo-ey looking Packers logos and flames and sh!t. You know... So you can stand out in a crowd and be individual, just like all your friends!
;) Edit... Lots of chrome, or nickel too.... That's the flashy way to be. |
Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
My EDC is either a Smith & Wesson Body Guard 380 in a Desantis Super Fly holster (warm weather) or a Glock 19 in a Desantis Facilitator (cold weather).
What ever you chose, please remember practice, practice, practice and more practice along with threat level training will make you better prepared to handle a bad situation, or better yet, avoid getting into a bad situation.:2 |

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
About a week ago, one of the users of the OhioCCWFourms.org site that I am a part of had to shoot someone. The surveillance video is also there. Please view it and read the comments as there is a lot to be learned. Also, a forum admin for a Wisconsin CCW site posted there, so you might be able to get a good link to a forum you might want to take a look at Wade. http://ohioccwforums.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=53502

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
I understand and agree with trying several first. However just by looks of what I think will fit my minds eye, I've been looking hard at the CZ 2075 Rami. I know there's a lot of CZ guys out there and just as many that don't care for them, but I've shot a few and really liked them, just never the one I listed above. Unfortunately we don't have any ranges around here that have guns to rent or such, so I'm gonna have to find another resource to hold one first.

Elections have consequences!

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
Well that took the bounce out of my bungee. I just called Gander Mtn to get information on the ccw class, and was informed that the bill wasn't signed into law yet. The state senate has signed and approved the bill, but Gov. Walker who stated during his election campaign that he'd sign the bill, has not yet done so. Additional information was given that during Gov. Doyle's administration, Senator Walker voted AGAINST the bill every time. So, this may NOT get signed into law in WI after all. Damnit.

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
Well, if it does pass, which I'm sure it will.... eventually, I'd go with the Ruger .380 LCP. Get the optional laser grip too. Great compact gun that can tuck nicely in your waist band.
Most life threatening situations where you'll have time to draw, will be from the hip and without much time to aim. You also have to factor in that most encounters will be within a 3-5 ft distance. Something small, lightweight, powerful and easy to shoot will be your best friend. For home-defense, I recommend The Judge by Ruger. |
Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
i carry a sig p238, but i think a ruger lcp would be a bit better. if you want something with more firepower i would say any glock sub-compact.

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
I love my glock 23.
|
Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
I carry a S&W M&P Compact, S&W M&P Pro, Sig, Kimber, S&W 500 depending on the situation. What is best hard to tell however whatever you carry you need to be able to use it effectively and safely.

I've since changed out the grips for the Crimson Trace laser ones. For me, I pray to never need it, but if I do, I am positive it will go bang. I love the simplicity of a wheel gun. |

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
30-90 days in TN to get your permit in the mail. It varies wildly. Some report getting it in 2 weeks, others 3 months. Even when they took the class the same day.
|
Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
pa is no more than 45 days by law, some townships use the entire 45, some issue on the spot. Philly likes to ignore the laws and usually takes longer, screw them
|
Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
In Michigan, if the county gun board does not approve your application within 30 of applying then they have to issue a temporary permit. Assuming they haven't found a legitimate reason to deny you. I don't know how often they comply, but it can a looong time to get a permit in the big counties down state.

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
So many decisions, I'm teetering between the CZ 2075 RAMI and the Ruger SR9c, granted this is just based on internet investigation only, I've yet to hold either, but I do have Fri & Sat off, so shopping is on the calendar!

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
Got the CC permit in the mail last week, pretty excited about that. Decided on the Ruger SR9c in the 9mm, all black. Now I just gotta save up for the gun.
Then I need to learn about ammo, seems there's more to learn there than there is about the gun. |
Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
Just remember that the "best gun for ccw" is the one you shoot best with.
Pulling it out quickly while disabling safety and acquiring your target under one second.. learn how to do this in your sleep, muscle memory is very important. Most people make the mistake of asking for opinions on what the "best gun" would be, then rarely shoot with it. If you can't do this motion quickly, chances are you will be disarmed and your firearm will be used against you. Way back in my rookie days I practiced at home with an unloaded gun and mounted a laser pointer to it. Walk around the house, focus on an object, aim, pull the trigger and hold it steady while checking whether the laser is where you intended to aim at. Mostly I carry a PX4 with PDX-1 .40 S&W 165gr JHP using a Comp-Tac Minotaur IWB holster. While I'm on the bike or at home, safety is on, otherwise it's off. I don't concealed carry my FNP .45, Walther P99, Glock 20 why? Because I got accustomed with the PX4 for quick draw, target acquirement and accuracy the most so I stuck with it. The others I shoot for fun. There is no "best gun", they all serve the same purpose - pull the trigger to save your life. Generally, once you carry and you understand that what you have on you can end someone's life, you'll act completely different while being armed and out in the public as well. Where I used to neg back at annoying people, I now simply walk away, no matter how bad the insults. Or go ahead and push and shove me, I'll still walk away as quick as possible without saying a word.. because I know there's many stupid people out there and imho nobody deserves to die because they started ****.. we all say and do stupid things, so first things first, save your life and someone else's by avoiding conflict altogether. Your firearm is the absolute last resort.. guns are not "cool", they're a deadly tool not to be played with. :2 I hope you'll never have to use it. Best wishes and good luck my friend. P.S.: If you get pulled over by a cop and you have to inform them that you're carrying, don't say "I have a gun!". Say "Officer, I have a concealed carry permit and at the moment I'm carrying" while keeping your hands where the officer can see them. :tu |

Ruger LCR with crimson trace grips.

Re: It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
I still have not gotten my ccw for Ohio yet. I need to do that, especially with all the window-crawlers around here. It'd suck to go to jail for drilling a hole in someone's head who just crawled in my bedroom window.
