New 300 ct. Humidor
300 boxes, maybe. :D
Picked up my new humidor yesterday. I knew it was big, but I was still a little shocked when I saw it in person. Wouldn't come close to fitting in my Explorer. Luckily I brought the trailer hitch caddy and a LOT of rope. 125 mile trip back to my house at 45 miles an hour made for a relaxing time to smoke a few cigars. Overall it looks to be grade A on the inside and grade B on the outside. All the shelves were there and in great shape. There is an electrical receptacle at the bottom of the humi to plug in an active humidification system and a switch for presumably the lights. Looks like damn good craftsmanship inside. A few scratches on the outside here and there but no biggie. A couple things: It came with a Moist-n-Aire that looks to be in pretty good shape. I'm going to give it a chance to prove itself before I spend money on a different system. I'm going to put new weatherstripping at the edges where the glass doors seal. They slide quite nicely and seem to seal pretty damn good but the weatherstripping looks old. Quick $5 fix. Also, it has lights in the top that shine down through a (currently broken) translucent tile like you'd see in any drop ceiling. Not sure what I'm going to do with this. Guess I should see how hot the lights feel when on for a bit. I could easily seal up the top and go with no light, but if it the light doesn't run too hot (not like I'd leave it on for more than a minute or two anyway) I'll leave it as is. I also need to get the lock mechanism replaced as this one came with no keys. Here's what I am starting with. Hope to have it in the house and plugged in and stabilizing in a few days. pics in next post. |

That's a nice looking humidor! You're so far down the slope I think I need binoculars to see you! :r

Re: New 300 ct. Humidor
Nice. Old B&M shop cabinet?
If heat is an issue with the lights, you can always go to LED. :2 Moist-n-Aires work fine, you just need an external hygrometer to set them as the dial numbers can be deceiving. Depending how long it was in use & sat, you might want to pull the top and look inside the tank for any growth and check the float. The company is very good about replacement parts (if needed) too. |

All my cigar boys (don't have Adam's number) bailed so I took my oldest daughter. With all the things she has going on it was a wonderful way to spend the day together chatting.

Nice brother...I'd switch to LED and make sure it says out of any room with too many windows. You don't want the sun shining directly onto that baby. :tu

FINALLY, someone understands the end game. Sooner or later we ALL need that
cabinet, most just can't see to the end of the road for all the deals on vinos and 300cts and desktops and Pelican cases. I kid of course, you are insane and we will look for the big sale at the end of this story. I got dibs on your insert cigar brand here s! |

Played around with it a bit tonight. The electrical outlet and the light works, the moist N aire works (float needs replaced and the reservoir needs cleaned up), and I already bought a new tile for the ceiling. Not going to worry about switching lights as I won't have the light on for more than a minute or two at a time. One of the doors needs work getting the seal for the glass repositioned and I need to replace the lock or find a key that will work. Already have a guy working on that for me. Moving along nicely... |
Re: New 300 ct. Humidor
Great pickup, Craigslist can work if you stay on top of it. Have fun filling your new "baby".

Re: New 300 ct. Humidor
glass door is fixed. Last thing needed is the lock changed or a key procured. Got a BOTL hleping with that. Might just take the whole damn door to a locksmith tomorrow and have him go to work. I want this thing set up and seasoning NOW! :)

Re: New 300 ct. Humidor
You know, we could build a pretty sweet drawer unit to fit inside there....

Re: New 300 ct. Humidor
So much room to work with in that thing. Lot's of possibilities. I could see putting a built in with doors on the bottom and drawers above, then your shelving above that for box storage/display. Having a couple cupboards in it would be handy for storing anything you don't necessarily want seen.
Could be a pretty fun project. Let me know if you want to look into some options. :tu |
Re: New 300 ct. Humidor
Finally got all the litte do-dads, and whatchamajigs fixed. Installed, humidifier is running and hopefully we'll be putting cigars in soon. Threw some empties in for now so it looks cool. If I could make sex with this thing I'd dump the girl I'm dating.

Re: New 300 ct. Humidor
Looks Awesome, Brother!:banger Holding RH Well? Are You Going To Have Any Temp Controls In That Beauty?
|
Re: New 300 ct. Humidor
No temp control, it's in the finished basement where it's usually 65 degrees or so. It went from reading 51%rh to 62 in 2 hours. The moistenaire puts out a ton of humidity. Interested to see what it's done over the last 10 hours since I last looked at it. Planning on going at least a week before adding cigars.

Hey P, if you need boxes let me know, I have some and the ones that are half full I have singles holders I could use more efficiently than the boxes, I just need motivation to clean it up.
