You want fries with that?

Last fall, when I wasn't in class, I was working on bridges with my father. Bridgework is great money. Really great money. But, when the snow comes, the lull comes. We quit working when things started getting cold. I figured my dad would get some more work for us (me), but that didn't happen. Sometimes you gotta do crazy things. I need money pretty bad for stuff coming up in my life soon, so, I did what any student does who is desperate: work anywhere you can.

And so, with happiness, I announce that I'm a part time employee at Mcdonalds.
If you happen to stop by the mcdonalds off I-435 in lenexa in the evening, I might just be taking your order.

This is just a temp-job until I graduate, but in the meantime...
I'm loving it.

Glad you found a new job, even if it's at McDonalds!

Prayers for a successful (temporary) stay at your new job, and even more success in your school work!

Mcdonalds take care of their employees. I'll fly up there and buy you some fresh ones with my "gold" card that allows me 50% off purchases.

Nothing wrong with that brother, I worked at Taco Bell! A job is a job, and you're doing the right thing getting through school. Good luck with your studies, and hopefully the bridge work returns soon!

I suppose the mark I'll try to leave on the company is some specialty item invented by yours truly. It'll get added to the menu at all locations and I'll make millions.

How about a chicken mac- big mac with mchicken patties.

Do you guys serve tacos? :r What about pizza? Can I get a beer with that?

But seriously it could be worse. At least you have a job. I really need to get another one. (a job)

Good on you Blake. I always get perturbed when I hear people that are out of work turn their nose up when it comes to working in fast food because they think it's beneath them.

Super size it, please! :tu

Nothing wrong with that Blake. After I graduated the job market was down and I took a job in a super market for a year before the market picked back up.

BTW since your location is now known it seems like a drive through bombing might be in order.............

That's the way itshould be. I have a "friend " who would rather be on unemployment than work somewhere were he would make less than before.

Nothing wrong with a Micky D's job...

But with all the BBQ joints in KC...I'm just sayin' Thats where I would want to work.

Good luck with any and all future jobs Blake.

That is the one that I know of right by the former K-mart, former Sears Grand and now I think a Sears Outlet maybe former now?

So does this mean I get free fries with that?

Seriously though there is no shame in working at a fast food place. Just don't eat it every meal for 30 days or you could end up like Morgan Spurlock and have your own TV show making big bucks....

There is no shame in taking whatever job you can find.

The shame is preferring to stay unemployed and expecting the rest of us to pick up the tab every week.

Exactly. Pride has been the fall of many men, and will often hold you down. Way to man up Brother.

Congrats on your new job and well wishes coming your way!

Re: You want fries with that?

Jobs in college - wow, do I remember some doozies. With my mother having Multiple Schlerosis and my brother born with Spina Bifida, finances were tight at home. So, although they said my parents could give X amount of $$ to my education, it just wasn't there, so I had to provide it myself. I worked 30+ hours a week while going to school full-time.

And I remember some of my buddies who laughed at me for having to work so hard, telling me I needed to find another way to get the money so that I could enjoy college. Some of those types worked as hard at their studies too, and some of them found themselves back at home.

Never did McDonald's, but I can see where a hungry college student might find that a job with some great benefits.

Gods blessings in your continued studies.

My 16 yr old son just got his first job at a local nursing home, dietary assistant (means he brings out the food and does the dishes). Wish I made $8.50 as a starting wage when I was in H.S. and College. I remember being stoked when minimum wage went up to $3.25 an hour.

Peace of the Lord be with you.

Get the McGangbang on the menu! :p

...and as for the work...sometimes, you just gotta do what you gotta do.

I'd work at a BBQ joint but, I wouldn't be able to work as many hours with them. Mcdonalds is 24 hours and I imagine I'll be working late several nights.

And yes, it's the one where Kmart used to be. It's a sears outlet now.

As long as you stay in School where you work shouldn't matter...its the end that counts not the means of how you got there...good luck with school and can I change that coke to a strawberry shake?:dr

Don't sell the experience short. I also worked a a burger joint when in college. That led to my first management job which was a nice plus on my resume when I graduated.

If it pays bills and is above board where the money comes from is moot. You do what you gotta do and anyone who judges you has issues, just my .10 hang in there. It'll get better!

I have an uncle that was out of work for 10+ years. Everyone always used to criticise him for not doing anything. You are working and having a job and doing it well (no matter what it is) is something to be proud of.

For the record...I worked as Santa Claus in Williamsville, NY one year because I was broke. So I feel your pain :)

You'll never see fast food again. I worked 5 years at a grocery store. Grocery shopping is not the same for me. It's a unique experience.

I was going to act all hurt here, but then I figured I should do some investigating. According to a couple sites, it was between $.48 & $.62 a gallon in 1978 when I got my license. And minimum wage was $2.65.

When I went to college minimum wage was $3.10 and a gallon of gas was $1.25. And inflation was 13.5%.

Boy have times changed

I can remember $0.29 a gallon and if you went towards Daytona Beach on 95 you could see the gas wars for $0.19.

That's all right. Blake will be telling his grand kids he remembers working in MickyD's when his happy meal wasn't $15 and it still had a real toy in it.....:D

I remember that, I just meant currently.....everyone knows the stupid questions you get asked at the drive thru. I remember a friend of mine had a guy ask for chicken tenders "heavy all". So my friend added lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions and poured mayo all over them. That is "heavy all" :sh

I remember when I was like 8-10 and saw gas priced at like .85 cents a gallon. Must have been nice. I also remember a few years ago when it was 4.50 a gallon.

I'm not complaining. They offered me the opportunity to go to some of their management courses later down the road (not far down the road actually). I imagine being a part time manager at mcdonalds would be a good learning experience if anything.

McDonald's management training is some of the best in any industry. A skill easily transferable to bigger things. Good luck. :tu
