Is this plume?

I've had this box ageing down next to my moisten-aire in the tower humi for the last couple years. Just remembered it so decided to grab an afternoon smoke. Couple of the smokes looked like they had plume on them. Gonna enjoy one this evening I think.

Mold.

Quick wipe on your t-shirt and ready to smoke.

Now, if there is mold on/in the FOOT of the cigar, get to choppin'.

Mold on the wrapper is common. Happens to all of us when a stick or twelve get too close to the humidifier....Murphy's Law sorta thing.

It is. Smoking the top one right now. Sadly the bottom one had it on the foot. Think I'm gonna feed that one to the rabbit. :D

looks like mumps. that means that your cigars are going through their sick period. They'll be stellar if you don't disturb them for a few months.

Chop first.

I have shipped my sticks from one side of the earth to the other (literally!)Sh*t happens....chop about 1/2" and look closely...should be smokeable after that.

That's what they all say :) Had someone say the same thing at the shop around here. Not the owner, one of the part-timers. "Oh no that plume. That means you got a good cigar." :bh Come on man

I know this thread was a joke, but I have never actually seen a picture of plume, just lots and lots of mold pictures in threads labeled "Is this plume?"

Re: Is this plume?

Ha, that's why I posted it. Plume is crystaline and shiny, kind of amber colored. They really look nothing alike. Yet the question continues to be asked. :ss

On a more serious level, I think they do a pretty good job in this article explaining the difference and include pictures.

Yes. I agree. Bob is a great guy, but it was one of the guys that's in there one or two days a week. This was a while back and I didn't really know the guy and it wasn't worth it to argue mold v plume. There's a few boxes in there that haven't been touched in probably years and I'm sure it's because they're full of "plume". Definitely too wet in there.

Actually I haven't had the thing filled or on in a long time. The beads seem to take care of things in there just fine.

Love the typical B&M story about someone explaining plume to me in the shop.... :sl

I want to bring in some bread with the same thing and ask if they will smoke that in their pipe.

I just dug through my pictures hunting for a particular one I had with a great example of the real thing. Can't find it though. :td

I've had many of them tell me that. I know what plume is. I've seen it a number of times. I see mold 10 times more often, and they do NOT look anything alike.

The terms are often used interchangeably, even though they really shouldn't be, since a mold colony "blooms".
