Can we get some Blues up in here?
I absolutely love me some blues. Most other things I like, music-wise, stem right out of the blues, or are by heavily influenced artists.
If the songs are about water, it's all that much better. Here's one of my favorites, Johnny Hooker - Waterfront. Whatta you got? |
Re: Can we get some Blues up in here?
I'm on more of the Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside side of the house, but I feel you.

Been listening to a lot of Slim Harpo lately. I love "I'm a King Bee".
Slim Harpo, "King Bee" Someone told me he recorded this song in an old gas station gas tank that had been dug up. They set up the recording equipment at the back of the tank and he played toward the front. You can totally hear it in the song, especially when the harmonica comes in toward the end. Eric |

Son House, Skip James are two I highly recommend. I have a station set up on Pandora and big list of similar blues artists if you want more suggestions.

Hey, we could name 'em all day long: Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee, Taj Mahal, Charlie Musselwhite, Koko Taylor . . . and that's not even a good start.
But if you like your blues hot and electric, it's hard to beat that whitest of white men, Johnny Winter. |

What I find fascinating about most of the guys whom I linked, is their backstory's. Some of them went to jail regularlly. In the case of Skip James he never got his full pay for his songs. And the stories go on and on.

One of my favorite tunes They're Red Hot from Robert Johnson. Lots of people have heard Clapton cover it on "Me and Mr Johnson". Not so many know the peppers did an idiosyncratic cover of their own on Blood Sugar Sex Magic
Been a blues and jazz fan since my teen years. |

Now that I think about it didn't you work security for Ted Nugent a little while back, too? Maybe it was for some kind of press conference he was doing, can't remember. |
Re: Can we get some Blues up in here?
Speaking of Ted Nugent, here's a little "Baby Please Don't Go". Been trying to learn to play this on my acustic guitar...not going too well just yet!

I did get to meet Mr. Dixon. I also was on stage for Ray Charles, and literally "ran into" him before the show. Some of the other blues artists included Koko Taylor and Buddy Guy. The rock shows were mostly college circuit and semi-local. Cool part was always getting invited to the ater-parties. Some of the bands were R.E.M., Psychedelic Furs, Cheap trick, Charlie Daniels, and other mid-level bands. |
