It's almost that time of the year folks. Although my Mets did not have a promising off-season...let's see how this shapes up. :D

I predict the 2001 Mets will go 82-80 and finish 3rd in the NL East. Just a hunch..... :D Now, the 2011 Mets? Who knows? |

Let's hope the new management can make some new and exciting changes this season. I'm all for a very revamped bull pen.

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Since it was already renamed once,

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
My services are being auctioned off to root for the team of the highest bidders choice. Since if you combined my original team the Mets and my Tampa team, let's call them the Devil Rays you still wouldn't be able to win the NL East or AL East division!!!!!!!

If you have the YES Network turn it on now!!!

Top of the 9th, game 5 of the 2000 World Series. :tu

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Continuing to execute their strategy of low-risk acquisitions on a static budget, the Mets on Monday announced that they have signed veteran pitchers Chris Capuano and Taylor Buchholz, both of whom have undergone Tommy John surgery in recent years.
GREAT!! Two more "weak arms" that will hit the DL a few times this year. :td :td |
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
You get your spring training invite Mac? I think everyone else got theirs

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Mets sign Willie Harris to a minor league deal...I LIKE THIS!! :tu
Earlier this week, the Mets signed lefty reliever Taylor Tankersley to a Minor League contract. Not a fan of this move. Our pitching staff is gonna look like DOO DOO this year. :td |
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
And that is different from any other year?
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Have a bad feeling about this year, I actually think it's the first year that I'm not being optimistic. Pitching isn't going to be up to par with anybody. Still, I have to get down there this year to see new stadium, last time I was there was the last year at shea, I brought my son to his first MLB game to say " Let's Go Mets "
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
The Mets look to be signing Scott Hairston to a minor league deal. He is a good utility player that can play just about every position and works well off the bench.
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Mets sign free agent LF Scott Hairston & RHP Chris Young. Hopefully Young can regain his form...not sure about the Hairston deal.
Also signed Blaine Boyer to a minor league deal. I like this...helps add a little to the bullpen. |
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Hariston is a good pick up. He can play everywhere.
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Mets are looking to sell part of the team.
They claim any sale will leave them with controlling interest. Start rolling your change up Mac :tu |

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
The team is only worth about $15.84 give or take.
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Sad thing is they're saying they have about $50 to $60 million coming off the books in 2012 and that they probably wouldn't invest it in new players unless it's one year commitments. Which to say never happens unless the players coming off an injury, I guess I'll look forward to 2013.
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Maybe with the new baseball people in the front office they can get themselves back on track and build a team that fits the field they play in. They have a pitchers park and need a team that is based on pitching and defense.

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Rumor has it that Martin Luther King III is interested in buying 20%-25% of the Mets. Curent value is $ 858 million (at 25%= $ 214.5 million). Didn't know social workers made that kind of change.
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Also...Citi Field will get the 2013 All Star game. :tu :tu
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
As a fan since 1962, things don't look good on all fronts this year! The minority sale of 25% sounds like the tip of the iceberg, who knows what other shoe will fall off.
2013 sounds like a good year though, Lets Go 2013 Mets! |
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Maybe James Dolan will buy the team :tu
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Please let Donald Trump buy the Mets. His pockets will be endless and when a player like Perez doesn't produce he'll just say " your fired ".

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Well, I'm glad to see at least ONE Met fan thinks the same way I do about the possibility of Donald Trump buying into the franchise. He's said he's only interested in getting a majority share, which would mean he'd be to the Metropolitans the same type of owner George Steinbrenner was for the Yankees.
He will irritate the players, the manager, the fans, the other team owners, and the commissioner . . . and build a winning team. |
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
For years I have seen posts on the Mets sight and other places begging for the Wilpons to sell the team. I never really got caught up in that till now. When your home base is New York, you have a brand new stadium that you sold the naming rights to, and your own cable network, but still nickel and dime to get players and refuse to let players go who have been let downs for years it's time to go. I'm not saying they don't spend alot because I believe they are in the top 5 or so but you have to be able to cut your losses and move on. The other side of town would have gotten rid of those players and made
Improvements to make themselves better. Sorry for the rant. |
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
If Trump buys a large share of the Mets...maybe we could get Pujols. :D
