Ran my first triathlon today...

1K swim, 30K bike, 5K run (wtf, right?)....anyway, it went pretty well. I finished at least, and ahead of a couple dudes that could otherwise kick my ass, so I'm calling it a win!
I had tons of fun and can't wait to do another! Any of you other bruddas get involved in this madness? :su

No team stuff yet, but I did see some people doing that. Looked like a bit of fun and probably a lot less worrisome knowing you only have to run one leg of the race. :tu

Finishing is the most important thing in your first one. :) I dont do Triathlons but Wanger does.

Actually just a road bike. It's a Specialized Tarmac Pro. Dura Ace components.

Re: Ran my first triathlon today...

AWESOME!

How'd the swim leg go? I think I remember you being a bit concerned about that. The swim is always the most concerning part for me, but I know I just need to relax and trust all the work I've put in while training.

As Laura mentioned, I've become a triathlete, myself. Got HOOKED after my first one...last year. I've done 5 so far, and will do as many as I can for as long as I can. I'd love to be 70 and still doing them. :) I did do an international length this year. Was a great challenge, even though it didn't go as well as I had hoped it would (went a bit off course on the swim and bonked on the run), but I finished.

Having a road bike for tris isn't a big deal...that's what I have (Trek 1.2). Only thing I'd suggest is looking for aerobars. Got some on my bike this year, and it made a big difference in my comfort level on the bike.

The goal next year is a half ironman (Chisago Lakes in late July). I'll do a few sprints, as well, but I'm looking forward to the challenge of a half iron race. :)

Maybe we need to have a CA triathlon team. Finish the run with cigars (not necessarily lit). :p

And isn't that first cigar and beer AWESOME after you finish? They both taste SO good to me. :p

I have gotten several hard looks from others while sitting in a camp chair (several yards away from the crowd) with a lit cigar waiting for results to be announced. I especially enjoy finishing before these a-holes

Ha ha. I can imagine it, especially with such a health conscious level of people.

The swim leg wasn't so terrible after all, just should've trained more in the wetsuit I used...and just done more swimming, period. My goal is to work on some of the smaller Tri's here on the Island and do the Izena 88 next year (half Ironman). And yes! That first beer was great!! As was the cigar that night. I believe it was an LFD Airbender Chisel :tu

Oh, and we TOTALLY need a CA Tri-team. The jerseys would be awesome!

DAMN good job.

Have yet to do a Tri. Tweeked my ankle pretty bad in May and have been rehabbing it ever since. I have JUST started running again.

Just finished the Insanity program and I can tell a very very big difference in cardio. Also set a 5k PR last weekend, which was impressive since I have not run in about 5 months. Hoping to start a Marathon training program in January.

Thats a very nice bike. The components are top notch. If you do get a Tri or TT bike I love The Specialized Transition Pro it is a very good bike I have had one for about 2 years. Congrats on finishing the Tri they are very difficult.

EXCELLENT and CONGRATS... I caught the tri bug 2 years ago, though still can't commit to doing an Olympic.... Love sprints...

It is nice to have a race signed up, forces me to get into the pool and run... I bike regardless, but I have to have a reason to run and swim....

I once walked to the town pool, then stole a bike to get home, does that count? ;)

LOL It counts about as much as a drinking, smoking, and eating tri does. :p

I've found that as I improved on the swim from last year to this year, EVERYTHING got better. My aerobic capacity changed a lot. As soon as I'm done with the base building program I'm on (running), I'll be back in the pool regularly again. Just knowing my goal is a half iron is enough to keep me in the pool in the "offseason". :p

Who can design it for us? I'm serious! That would be AWESOME. I would totally travel for a herf tri (but not likely to Oki, LOL)!!! Run the race, and then have a big herf afterwards. :D We can custom design socks on sockguy.com :banger

Re: Ran my first triathlon today...

Congrats brother. I would love to do some triathlons but swimming is not my thing... I've had a rotator cuff injury that bothers me anytime I swing my arm in motion. I've ran a couple marathons along with many other smaller runs and I enjoy biking so I only wish the swimming would work for me... oh well, maybe some day. :)
