Don Pepin Garcia Blue Firecracker
This cigar was gifted to me a couple of months ago by Bao (aka Mugen910)!!!
Length/Ring: 3 X 50 Shape: Firecracker with fuse Wrapper: Natural Strength: Full Tonight I was getting the BBQ ready and thought I needed a cigar with some flavor while I grilled some boneless ribs! I also wanted something that would not take an hour and a half to smoke! This cigar has been staring at me for weeks now! The look is captivating and a little dangerous! I love the long pigtail fuse! http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/1...acker01sm0.jpg I cut the cap with my Palio! However, this thing was not defused!!! As soon as I toasted the shaggy foot I realized the power of this cigar! I could detect the pepper in the air! The smell blended very well with the BBQ and ribs!!! http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/4...acker03fa6.jpg The first few puffs were very flavorful with plenty of pepper and spice! The pepper is not black pepper, but red chili pepper! Very nice and hot!:fl http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/9...acker04mt0.jpg After the first third the spice mellowed a little! Plenty of white aromatic smoke with each draw! The construction was very nice with no corrections needed. The draw was smooth with just enough resistance to make the experience enjoyable! http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/6...acker05fc1.jpg At the halfway point I snorked through my nose and ended up choking! The spice was still very evident to my sinuses! Good thing I had a Sierra Nevada Harvest Ale to straighten me out!!! http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9...acker06pq7.jpg Due to the shortness of this cigar not a lot changed in complexity! I was either getting used to the spice or it mellowed towards the end! If spice is what you like in a cigar this is the one for you! http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/7...acker07rl7.jpg I ended up skewering the nub and enjoying the rest of the cigar as it became too hot to hold! http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/8...acker08qn0.jpg I finished just in time to take the ribs and potatoes off the grill! Yum!!! This was the perfect end to a great day!!! http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7...acker09bp8.jpg Total smoke time took 50 minutes. Construction/Appearance: 8 out of 10 (Fun shape) Flavor Balance: 8 out of 10 (Plenty of spice) Strength: Medium/Full (Flavorful without a nicotine buzz) ) Over all experience: 8 out of 10 Value: This was gifted but I wouldn't pay more than $6.00 Thank you Bao!!! |

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Blue Firecracker
Nice review, my friend.
I found these less than exciting. Honestly, I'd rather smoke a Blue Robusto any day and as far as a spice bomb like a lot of people say, I did not get that. |

Great Review & Pics! I love all The DPG line, but my fav. is the JJ. Like Darrell, I do not detect a huge amount of pepper in any of the DPGs, but I love the smokes!:D

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Blue Firecracker
Nice review! I love these little guys. You're right on about the lack of complexity in these sticks, but the flavor that they do have suits me just fine. I also find quite a bit of pepper and spice in these cigars as well. These are nice cigars for a quick smoke.

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Blue Firecracker
Great review. Love the Pepin Blue line, but have not tried one of the Firecrackers yet. I think they are only carried by a few retailers.

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Blue Firecracker
This is a good smoke, I'm surprised you got 50 mins out of that little firecracker. For me, it was a 30min smoke, 40 max.

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Blue Firecracker
Those look really tasty.

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Blue Firecracker
All Right, I'll go for a 5'er, too! You're "inspiring", Bao! Thanks for putting this together!

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Blue Firecracker
So, I am stuck at work today for my 16 hour day, which as most know will be a 4-5 cigar day. My Pelican case is packed with lots of yummies and see this DPG cigar calling out for me.
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...b/SNC00107.jpg This is a small version of the terrific Blue Label cigars. Thi is a nice little, 3" x50, pepper bomb. The cap has a long pigtail, which makes this cigar look just like a fat firecracker. The foot of this cigar has a smashed shaggy end, which looks as though it will drop ash really quick, but it was quite the opposite. Beautiful medium brown wrapper with a small vein and well placed cap. Pre-light hints of spice and pepper, cedar were present. After cutting this with my Palio cutter, I could taste the pepper and cedar. I toasted this cigar with my Dupont Xtend lighter and it took off. Lots of blue grey smoke came from this cigar. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...b/SNC00108.jpg I really can't base this cigar in thirds, as it took me about 35 minutes to smoke this. I had no problem nubbing this one (1/2"), as the flavor was awesome. The Blues really show off the great pepper/spice flavors which the Don creates for our enjoyment. There were no burn or draw issues and this cigar was terrrific. On a scale of 1 - 10, this cigar was a solid 9. Add in a great price on a box of 25 for about $95 and these are a steal. Definitely grab one and try it, you will not be disappointed. Thanks for taking the time to read and hope it helps. Thanks Bao for doing that split! |
Re: Don Pepin Garcia Blue Firecracker
Very nice review. Those little guys look tasty! I'll have to look out for those at the B&M...

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Blue Firecracker
Ok, so I'm a little late to the party. Smoking one now, courtesy of Remo 5 0, and I am digging it. Spice on mine mellowed very quickly, and it threw off lots of smooth creamy smoke, exactly what I was hoping for. I am definitely digging on the DPBs right now as one of my favorite NC cigars.
