Need your help with future wifey
 

I have sled down the slippery slope with my new cigar hobby. My future wife hates the smell of the cigars I am currently smoking, "Bolivar and Montecristo". A friend of mine told me to try a Rocky Patel with a white wrapper cuz most women like the creamy, vanilla aroma.

Does anyone know the correct name of the RP cigar or any other cigars that has the vanilla and/or creamy aroma that make not be as strong to her.

Better start looking at domiciles where you can smoke away from her. Or, hopefully you can find something she will accept that you enjoy (and your tastes don't change much ;) )... Good luck, bud.

My wife seems to complain more about the smoke from an NC compared to CCs, oddly enough.

Luckily my other half doesn't mind cigar smoke, actually my cigar hobby has intrigued her... she now smokes flavored cigars on occasion :D she absolutely loves the aroma when I smoke my pipe

As silly as it sounds, a lit candle will often help mask/destroy smoke. It doesn't work as well on cigars as it does on cigarettes due to the volume of smoke, but there are other options as well. Many of the ozone type air purifiers or similar make little if any noise and do a decent job of eliminating odors. Do you have a room inside you can smoke in, or the whole house, or?

Sounds like your friend is reccomending the RP Vintage 1999 Connecticut.

Your local B&M should be able to reccommend good Connecticut smokes for you. They are milder and tend to have a bit "sweeter" aroma. But really it still smells smokey. My guess is that is the real problem she has... that it smells like smoke period.

As I have recommended before... please go read a poem by Rudyard Kipling called "The Betrothed" Hopefully it will give you some perspective.

I have a small ozone unit for my house that clears the smoke out really well.

Luckily my wife smokes cigars as well, so it's not a big issue, but it's nice not the have the house smell like smoke. I used to smoke on the porch, but I don't think that's going to be possible in Detriot right now, the joys of living in Florida I guess.

I would find a good local shop to smoke in during the winter months and then enjoy smoking outside during the summer.

Good luck to you in your endeavor to find a cigar that won't bother your soon to be wife… If you're smoking inside the house then go outside or find a local B&M/cigar friendly establishment (that's probably a reasonable request from a wife). If the problem is you smoking in general then my suggestion is to keep smoking what you like and not stop after you get married. She knew you enjoyed cigars while you dated, so it shouldn't change after getting married. If you stop after marriage, be prepared to stop doing a lot of other things that you enjoy. I say let her deal with your occasional cigar funk (of course change your clothes, brush your teeth, use mouthwash, shower, or do anything else within reason to accommodate her) :D

357, I am mainly smoking outdoors, but you know how cold it gets in the "D" and she has a nose like a blood-hound. Damn, did I mention that she is a cop just like me and we don't even live together til marriage..:r

1. Dont smoke in the house- ever.
2. When you attend a herf, your clothes will reek. Take them off and throw them immediately into the washer. Also, take a shower before going to bed.
3. Get yourself some Smart-Mouth mouthwash, it works great.
4. Explain to her how a cigar relaxes you, and reduces your stress. If she cant understand the importance of this, then you may want to re-consider your choice in fiancée.

I went a completely different direction and bought a great big ol HEPA Air Purifier. Got a Honeywell QuietFlo

I turn it on low when I smoke in my office. Seems to work, or at least I have yet to beaten in to submission by my wife since using it.

I let it run during and about 30 minutes after wards as well.

A Smokers candle doesn't hurt either.

I think the RP he may be talking about is the Decade. It has a "cream" colored band. Not a bad cigar either, IMO.

And I'll probably get fried for this, but quite frankly, I can't tell the difference in smell of smoke from one cigar to another. It's all smoke to me. Now I can tell the difference in cigar and cigarette smoke in a second. But it's all smoke, and all kind of stinky. Maybe it's all the weed I used to smoke or something. -(P

You know, everyone has a vice of some kind. For many women it's shopping. For guys, there are much worse vices than cigar smoking. Gambling, heavy drinking, drugs, women, are all much more destructive vices that ruin a man's life let alone his marraige. Cigar smoking is pretty tame by most standards and by and large it is not even considered addictive. Although many here will tell you collecting them is. :tu

The smell of cigar and pipe smoke makes my wife, *ahem*, romantic. I was smoking a Sig II a couple weeks ago, and she asked for a couple of puffs; she loved it! She figures that she married a man, so she shouldn't be suprised when I act like one. :=:

Great advice here from my perspective as well. My wife has a nose like your future wife and it can be difficult. All of these recommendations are things I do and it works. The Smart-Mouth mouthwash I have found especially helpful. Good luck! Steve

My wife likes a certain hot sauce she uses on a lot of her food. I don't like the smell of it. Who am I to tell her she can't use her hot sauce when I know she enjoys it and I sure as hell am not going to tell her to change her clothes, brush her teeth and take a shower after every time she uses it! Unless I've missed something in my last 32 years of marriage, we are Equal Partners and tend to overlook each others minor "flaws" as we focus on the bigger picture of our lives.

Also usually I just say something like if you quit nagging/*****ing I'll quit whatever. Next time she nags me for it I just say well it seems we both have things we don't like about eachother and you wont quit yours either.

My wife of 32 years HATES...I MEAN HATES...cigars. We've come to an uneasy truce where I try to smoke when she's away or after she's gone to bed. She on the other hand tries to pretend I don't smoke cigars. :)

I have read online on multiple websites and reviews that O3 Purifiers work great on cigar smoke. Supposedly just having 1 in a room can completely purify that room of any lingering cigar smell within hours.

I assure you this "dislike" will turn to outright hatred for cigars after you are married. It will become ammunition during fights even if smoked outside of the house. You will get "the look" everytime you pull one out. If you are already having to alter smoking habits it won't get any better with switching cigars.

This kind of thing needs to be worked out before you get hitched. I can tell you my wife rarely says a word about me smoking in the house or my purchases. But, I have a designated smoking room and I don't question her hobbies or purchases. It's a mutual "live and let live" attitude we were able to work out between us and it works for us. If you truly want to keep this habit and not have to listen to the nagging then communicate and come up with a plan now. If not you will be jumping through hoops the rest of your life and you will still have issues. :2

Wood put a heater in the back room we smoke in and you'll be fine. When you move together make sure you guys get a house with a private room just for you (somewhere in the basement with a window. Use the fan).. If all else fail some get me and we'll hit a smoke shop (your driving)...:)

Good luck with that. Changing a woman's mind about anything but particularly cigars can be nigh on impossible. IMHO it is better to spend your effort finding a cigar get away.

Isn't that the truth. It's much easier to negotiate before you are married. I think where many guys get into trouble is trying to control their wives at the same time not wanting to be controlled. It takes a major issue for me to say anything remotely critical to my wife. I am not her dad. I don't tell her where she can or can't go...what she can buy...what she can or can't do...who she can talk to...or what habits she can take up. She reciprocates and gives me the freedom I need. It's a rare day for her to bust my balls and I think it's because we treat each other like trustworthy adults.

As a guy going through a divorce right now, I will echo this sage advice. Things she tolerates now, will get much more explosive once you have married. She thinks she will change you in the future. Better have a long talk now, because this is likely only the tip of the iceberg.

My girlfriend smokes cigars with me. I made it a point to find her stuff she'll like.
Granted, I got lucky.
Being a bit older, stuff that mattered just doesn't matter anymore. We just don't fight at all, we can't find anything to fight about.
I was blessed when she fell into my lap, but it wasn't for a lack of looking. I'm on Dan's side of the fence when he said "snowflakes can turn into avalanches". You don't really know someone till you're living with them, and a lot of times it can turn into sheer hell.
If it's just the cigars she's complaining about, I'm sure you can work around it. If that's the tip of the iceberg, I'd start shopping.
