I saw this on another forum and agree with the poster. Whatever these guys get paid, it's not enough. Can you imagine the first time you ever had to climb 1/3 of a mile into the air? :eek:

Yes, these guys are absolutely bananas. Beyond just the dangers of the height they have to deal with serious RF.

No way in the world that I would do it... but I know a family that has a business that paints towers like that. All 5 male members of the family do it and of course they make REALLY good money. I've always wondered what kind of insurance they have to pay?

I believe it was in the US. They mentioned OSHA being ok with them not strapping in because it takes more time and is more tiring.

:tpd: There are state by state reg's that dictate rest time and having fall protection while in a stationary work position but as far as I know it is not required to climb on rope.

The narrator said free climbing was OSHA approved, so I assumed it was the USA. But I don't know for sure.

Met a number of tower climbers when I was in radio. They are a different lot but for the money they make, if I were physically able, I wouldn't mind doing it. The highest tower I climbed was 250ft.

Man, those heights are insane. That last 66ft looks to be the scariest. To think I used to be able to freak some guys out whipping the boom around on a little measly 75ft. tower ladder and getting one of the outriggers to lift off the ground.

Finally was able to watch it, and I have to say it made me a little dizzy. Disoriented feeling. Thats insane.
