Cutter?
So, I know this is a common question, so I will preface with this: I have purchased a Xikar Xi Cutter, and a Palio, and loved the Palio to bits. Unfortunately, a week after I received it, I somehow lost my Palio & my ST Dupont Xtend while moving all my cigar stuff (on Sunday). Pretty much the most devastating loss (cigar-wise) I've received... :sad
I still have my Xikar, and a Xikar 009 punch (which I adore). I also have another ST Dupont lighter on the way. However, I did enjoy my Palio for the time I had it, and hopefully it will show up before I move out of this apartment at the end of the month... My question is, should I buy another Palio, or should I go with a ST Dupont cutter? I really liked the Palio, but the finishes are very... plasticky. The ST Dupont cutters look phenomenal, and the red gloss finish that would match the lighter I purchased would look fantastic. But does the ST Dupont have a good cut, or will I inevitably go back to buying a Palio? Thanks for reading through all of that. I appreciate any responses. Krishna |
Re: Cutter?
I have had many cutters and my Palios win hands done regardless of finish. Its all about functionality.
In my experience if you lose a Palio then order another the original will become jealous and reappear :D |
Re: Cutter?
That's awful..I remember when I lost my Xikar cutter. I was pretty bump out. You order another xtend?
|
Re: Cutter?
Just make sure it's the double bladed st. dupont, if you want something flashy. Otherwise, I'd just go for the Palio.
|
Re: Cutter?
Palio, I'd rather have a cutter that works than a cutter that looks good. Besides, their customer service is amazing. If it breaks, you get a new one. NO questions! :2

Re: Cutter?
Go for the palio, much cheaper and way better than the Dupont cutter.

Re: Cutter?
Stay With Palio.:tu
|
Re: Cutter?
Palio all the way. Duponts are for those that like to show-off.
|
Re: Cutter?
Palio for me. :tu
|
Re: Cutter?
Can't go wrong with a Palio! :tu
|
Re: Cutter?
Although the Duponts look nice you can't beat the cut of a Palio.
|
Re: Cutter?
Palio, wood burl wood looks less plastic.
|
Re: Cutter?
Palio or Xikar Multi-tool
I like the Xikar a bit more only because it folds neatly into my pocket. |
Re: Cutter?
Another vote for the Palio. I haven't found a cutter that I like better than that one. :tu

Re: Cutter?
I have a cuban crafters perfect cutter and I'm waiting for my palio to come in the mail :D

Re: Cutter?
Heh... all you guys and your fancy cutters, I have had nothing but clean cuts since purchase with my $1 Guillotine Cutter. It's the first and only cutter I have ever owned.

Re: Cutter?
Dunhill makes a nice pocket cutter with a loop to carry like a pocket watch. I bought a pair of cigar scissors a week or two ago that I am loving for under $20!

Re: Cutter?
I couldn't understand at first why anyone would spend good money on a cuter when the freebie I received in a sampler seemed to do such a good job. Live and learn, the freebie cut well for a while and now it's mangled my last two cigars. No big deal at home I just use a razor blade but now I'm in the market for a good cutter for when I'm out and about.

Re: Cutter?
For less than the price of a 5 pack I picked up my Palio. Best cutter I've ever used. It only took one cut using my Palio to covert my a fellow BOTL. He went out and bought one the next day.

Honestly, if the cigar isn't triple capped I bust out the Palio, if it's got the third cap, I use whatever I have handy at the moment. Most of the time that handy object is a cheap $1 single blade guillotine that I can trace the cap off. |

Re: Cutter?
And that could definitely happen, some of these inmates still have a Havana cutter (considering one person bought 100 of them) from a long, long time ago that wasn't expensive but still cut razor sharp.
Eventually, it yielded to the Palio, which was developed by the cigar community for it. Which is why we hold it dear. That and it can cut your finger off if you're not careful. |

Re: Cutter?
I have used my Palio everyday, for 2-3 cigars a day, for the past 3 years and it cuts just like the day I got it.
After you screw up a few $10+ sticks with a cheap cutter, you quickly learn the value of having a good cutter to use. |
Re: Cutter?
Simple solution: Get the money you would spend on a Dupont cutter and buy a Palio and use whats left over to buy cigars!! :D

I think burl wood it will have to be. Also, it will match my Chasidor drawers, whenever those get made and shipped! |
Re: Cutter?
This might sound crazy, but I am a knife guy and have been cutting all my cigars with my knife(I keep them very sharp). It works great and I can control the speed much better while still getting a clean cut. For me it makes the whole cutting process much more enjoyable. The only cigars where the cutter is handy are torpedoes or other similar shapes.

I vote Palio!

Re: Cutter?
Lately, I've using a Credo cutter like this:
http://careysmokeshop.stores.yahoo.net/1068.html It cuts cleaner and sharper than my Palio. A lot of my local cigar brothers have thought the same thing. |
Re: Cutter?
Palio ftw! :D

Re: Cutter?
Can not go wrong with the palio. I have cut thousands of cigars with mine and still have a perfect cut. I would never trust a cheap cutter on an expensive cigar.
