Good luck with the building stitch. I did framing work building houses for a couple of years but seriously doubt I know as much as RGD about it. I look forward to progress pics, especially the photo of the end of your first day of work in the new shop when you kick back on the porch with a cigar and a cold one. Semper Fi brother. -(P |

No pictures today ... Spent most of the day opperating a 16 pound digging stick and shovel digging footings in this rocky hard packed clay we call Ground up here ... Monsoon rains moved in ... I'm done.
|
Re: Mountain Home Leather ... The new shop
Wifey and I have hand dug nine footings, and are now stacking blocks and waiting for inspection ... our footing piers are squre, level and our corner to corner measurment is RIGHT ON! .... How the hell did we manage that ????
The rains have been Hard and every day .... Updated pictures soon. I'm tired, Sore ... And I'm gonna sit on the portch with whiskey and smoke and watch the thunder storms for a while. |
Re: Mountain Home Leather ... The new shop
If you don't already have a nail gun and compressor... I would suggest one of these http://www.paslode.com/ . No cords, hoses, batteries to charge.... Or if you want to pay the shipping I can UPS you mine to borrow for awhile :D

Re: Mountain Home Leather ... The new shop
Well the Monsoon rains have slowed us down, And it took a week to get our footings inspected and ok'd .... But we are back to work now...
Stitch cut's Rebar for the footings http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/7360/rebar.jpg Mrs. Stitch Hand Backfills some of the footing ppiers http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/503/backfill.jpg Tomorrow we pour cement and then the hammering of nails begins |

Re: Mountain Home Leather ... The new shop
Even way up here at 7,000 feet our frost depth is only 12"
18" depth is required by local code ... We went 24" just to be safe. |

Re: Mountain Home Leather ... The new shop
In case you all wonder where I've been and what I've been doing...
I'm still working on the new shop. I've been fighting the weather and the fact that Mrs. Stitch and I have done most of the work all on our own. But a week ago I had a "Barn Raising" and a bunch of good friends from the community turned out and we put a roof on this thing !!! http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/3605/help1s.jpg http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/8954/help3o.jpg http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/5619/help4.jpg Good people here, they worked their butts off ... The roof is now done, shingles and all, the gable walls are done and the siding is going on ... This has been a long hard lesson for me, I think I'll stick to building leather goods after this ! More to follow. |
