Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
One of the greatest players in the game back in his heyday and perhaps one of the greatest hitters of all time and will be a first ballot hall of famer. A perennial All-Star, sweetest swing in the game and a presence in the club house. Wish he would have stayed healthy, as he could have likely owned the homerun record, for atleast a few years. Glad to have met him atleast once. Best of luck to him and his family in the future.

Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
Second to Big Frank, Jr. was one of my favorite players growing up.

Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
Agreed. One of the last bastions of my childhood baseball fan career. He will be sorely missed from the Seattle dugout... again.
Best swing in baseball - no doubt. The "if onlys" center around his health - as you mention. Kudos for an entertaining career and wish him the best. :chr |
Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
He was one hell of a player. I just wish he wasn't hurt the whole time in Cincy.

Wonder if his rookie card will go up in price?

"The Kid" did it right!! :tu :tu

Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
So, he quit in the middle of the season?
|
Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
The MAN!!! We'll be seeing him in Cooperstown in a few years. I just wish he performed in Cincy like he did the first time around in Seattle.
Yes he quit in the middle of the season. Too many issues to keep on this year. The sleeping in the locker room during a game rumor didn't help either. |

In Jr We Trust :salute:
one of my many posters on the wall growing up. |

Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
He was defaintely one of the greatest to ever play the game. I am glad to see him retire though. He is not a competitive player at this stage in his career. Now we have to wait the 5 years for his HOF speech.

Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
He had the best swing in the game...

This is the catch that broke his wrist. |
Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
Ken is gonna stay in baseball, just not as a player.
I SO enjoyed all the "Is Bonds or Griffey better" years. It fleshed out totally in Ken's favor, right? :) |
Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
He's a class act!

Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
He was super to meet in person.
Great ambassador for the game and sad he was injured so often. |
Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
His swing is fantastic! I tried to emulate it as a kid but never could be as smooth as him. Too bad his retirement got looked over because of the blown call in the almost perfect game for the Tigers

Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
It is always sad when a great player fades. I am sorry he is "gone", sorry for all his health issues, and sorry he never got the fullest opportunity to turn his HoF career into one for the ages, as he had the skills to do so.
But I am most sorry that I never saw him in pinstripes. No offense intended to Seattle or Cincy fans, but let's be honest: Jr. was MADE for Yankee Stadium. |
Re: Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
He was easily my favorite player. Not a Mariners fan, but I liked to see him play. I'll miss him. Read several good articles today about his retirement.
God speed, Ken Griffey, Jr. |
