KFC Double Down

If this subforum were titled "Great Eats" I would not be able to start this thread, but as it is merely "Good Eats" I will post about this "sandwich":r

A co-worker was excited about it and got a bunch of us to go today. It was good, and a novelty, but none of us will be going back anytime soon. But I think we were all glad to have tried it and have a good laugh at the absurdity of a "sandwich" that uses two fried chicken breasts as bread. :r

The sandwich is from top to bottom, fried chicken breast, "colonel sauce", cheese, bacon, and another fried chicken breast. No bread, nothing else but a thin wax paper wrapper that does not insulate you well enough from the hot chicken, meaning that initially you can't hold onto it for very long.

Anyway, in closing, not bad and fun as a novelty. And to answer the inevitable question.......540 calories and 32 grams of fat. :tu

Since I live a low carb lifestyle, I'm excited to try the grilled version.

the plain chicken breast in itself was enough for me.. I had that in a jam and it was pretty damn good

Was it grape jam? I like mine with strawberry preserves. :r :r

Let's see how long it takes before someone buys a KFC Double Deuce, stuffs some french fries in the center, batters it with donut batter, deep fries it, adds chocolate sprinkles and whipped cream and posts it on ThisIsWhyYoureFat.com

-----------

ADDENDUM: I just went to ThisIsWhyYoureFat.com to make sure I had the link correct and lo-and-behold, the stock KFC Double Deuce is right there on the first page. :r:r:r:r

Nothing wrong with putting fries in a sandwich (as anyone who's been to Primanti Bros. will tell you)

Oh, I know. I was actually mocking the trends of what gets posted at TIWYF.

I had to try one today because of this thread. It was ok, but I don't think I'd eat one again.

Doubled down with diarrhea ... sounds good to me ... but I went to 5 guys instead today (love the burgers with fresh jalapenos) -- maybe tomorrow.

Saw the commercial for this monstrosity last night. Just did not look appetizing to me. Sean, I think you made a good decision. I would take 5 Guys over KFC any day. I am in the put fries on your sammich camp, not to mention potato chips when eating those with a sandwich.

Worth a try. There's a KFC 2 blocks away. What's the "colonel sauce"? Spicy at all?

5 Guys does have the upper hand in this one. I'll take the big burger over the chicken on chicken sandwich.

Re: KFC Double Down

Well, my buddy got one. No, "my buddy" is not code for me. Personally, not a fan of KFC, I do love me some Popeye's though.

His thoughts below:

Quote:

Mission Accomplished!

First off, let me say that where I am in West L.A. this bad boy is not even on the menu! So, special thanks to tube or I would've never found this heart-murdering monster. I was thinking maybe they didn't have them yet but I asked "do you guys have the double down" and the chick behind the counter smiled and said "oh yeah..."

Holy god this thing is nasty. I mean, it's delicious for a minute or two but then it just turns to a huge, greasy ball of crazy. There was way less bacon than there should have been, which was kind of dissapointing. The chicken was good and spicy, though... if a little soggy.

The "special" sauce is something along the lines of mustardy ranch.

I gotta say, I'm glad I did this.... because, done right, this could be a ****ing masterpiece and I intend to make my own version of the double down very soon.

Of course, this is KFC we're talking about... and they went straight up nastay:

Doesn't KFC understand that the bread is the item designed to protect your delicate upper palate from hot AND
extremely hard, crunchy crust? Derh. What's next a gravel parfait?

I love 5 Guys with fresh jalapenos! I always get it with extra jalapenos!

KFC, don't care to much for it, my least favorite chicken place.

They should've done it big mac style and called it the triple down. One more piece of chicken in the middle would seal the deal.

Depends on the type of cheese. I like bleu, feta, and cheddar with chicken just fine.

Believe it or not, I've never eaten at Chili's. I don't have anything against them, we don't have one local, and I've always ended up eating somewhere else for one reason or another when there was one nearby.. I think I've covered pretty much all of the other clones: Applebee's/TGIF/Ruby Tuesday's/Red Robin/Outback...

I'm going low carb again for a while, so I'm gonna have to check out the grilled double down today.

thebayratt 05-19-2010 11:10 AM

Re: KFC Double Down

I ate the "grilled" one monday and didn't care for it too much. I think they put too much seasoning on the chicken and it wasn't very "grilled" to me.
I may try the fried one, but for $7.48 for the meal, I can find better.
