Famous ancestors?

So my other thread asking about what type of work you guys and gals do seems to have gone well. So I thought I would ask another.

Again, if there is an existing thread, I couldn't find it, so please feel free to shut this down if so.

So who are you related to that is famous, infamous, well known, etc.

I'll give this a go.

My Great Great Grandfather, Great Great Grandmother, and Great Grandfather we're all passengers abourd the Titanic whilst she was making her trip across the pond.

Encyclopedia-titanica.org lists them as 3rd class passengers, but I have always heard they were actually in steerage which is worse than 3rd class.

My Great Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather both made it off the Titanic and onto the Carpathia. So I guess I would consider myself part of the really freaking lucky gene pool.

If anyone is interested, here's a link http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org...goldsmith.html

So who are you folks related to?

Well, wife's dad is a first Generation immigrant from Scotland and has direct lineage to William Wallace. Our son, by chance ended up being named Liam Wallace Blair so his name is actually from famous ancestry.

I'm not absolutely positive about it but I've heard that I'm related to Claude Provost, a hockey player for the Montreal Canadians from the mid-50's to the early 70's.

Re: Famous ancestors?

My great + a bunch (used to know, now I forget how many) grandmother is Mrs. Bixby. Who? you may ask? It's a famous letter from Lincoln that was used as the basis of the movie "Saving Private Ryan". She is the one in the Civil War that lost all but one of her sons during the war and Lincoln hand wrote her a letter basically saying that she shouldn't of had to lose all of her sons. In the movie, this is the reason that they went and saved Private Ryan so that Mrs Ryan didn't have to have the same fait.

I have two ancestors who were in the Confederate army. One was 75 years old when he joined, so he really didn't do anything, but one of the cousins was reported to be in the Savannah Artillery. As the story goes, he was captured as a POW and resided in a northern holding facility until he was pardoned by President Abe Lincoln just 3 days before the President's assassination.

My cousin (through several marages) is Scott Fujita line backer for the Saints.

One of my (insert random number of greats) grandfather was Dr. Mudd, fixed John Wilcks Booth (Sp?) leg after his fall off the balcony.

And randomly found out today that one of my (again insert random amount of greats) grandmas was hung during the Salem witch trials. I don't think I'm a wizzard though :(
