Tatuaje Black Label Tubo

I wish I had something in the way of a review to offer here, but honestly I found this cigar to be much like what I'd imagine smoking piss would be like.

DISGUSTING!

That said, I'd like to hear other responses, cause maybe I just got a really bad stick or didn't age it enough, or something.

Until today, I've yet to meet a Tat I didn't like... but this my friends was damn awful.

Im just wondering was the end of the black you smoked cut or bunched I have several, some cut some bunched and the cut ones seem to have a sour/bitter after taste. Not sure if thats the issue here I was hoping it was just a RH issue :2

This cigar is good IMO but, it needs time. Had one when they first came out, not even close to ready. There were some excellent flavors there, but they didn't really shine through like on the other tat blacks I've had, and the cigar started getting harsh about half way through. I'm letting the ones I have sit in the humi at least a year before I light them up.:tu

I wonder if mine was a fluke, because it was FANTASTIC!

Re: Tatuaje Black Label Tubo

The Verocu tubo is a little better than the Black tubo but not by much. I am very disappointed with the Verocu purchase and I am glad I smoked a single black tubo before buying them. The black tubo was horrible from start to finish. I had to relight the SOB about 5 times throughout the smoke but I was destined to finish it. No flavor and any that came from it tasted like poo.
Did anyone have any tar issues coming out the head? Mine was oozing after the halfway point; I had the same problem with the black robusto's. If I had to rate the black tubo it would have probably been around 75-78

I have found that the Black's are best when dry. Very dry. Never have been a fan of them though.

Re: Tatuaje Black Label Tubo

I bought a couple of the jars and when I first smoked the corona gorda, I was not impressed. I tried one about a year later and it was considerably better.

When I lit up the black tubo, it reminded me of smoking the corona gorda fresh and I was not that impressed as well. I am hoping these age similar to the ones from the jar.

I actually bought several boxes of the black tubos, I took half of them out of the tubes to age in the humidor so I can compare tube versus no tube. I think I want these to age faster, which will happen better without the tube.

Re: Tatuaje Black Label Tubo

I enjoyed the one I had on release, even though it was wet, had a tight draw and needed several relights. All correctible problems with some time in the humi.

So would one store these in tubo with or with out the cap on? Should I take mine out of the tubo entirely? I really want these to be awesome smokes. Lemme know what you guys have tried and if it works.

Have a box also, the 1 that ive smoked so far was decent, but subpar in compared to expectations. Going to take the caps off the tubes and leave them in the coolerdor for a few months. M.J., might not be a bad idea to do the same, think they may dry out a little better with the caps off.

Hopefully you wouldn't actually (it was the first thought that flooded my mind, so I went with it--for better or worse).

I was told they have a tendency to mold if left in the tubo, so I took mine out completely. I don't know how true a statement that was, but why risk it?

I have yet to try the Black. I have two but haven't got to them. The Red I tried yesterday however was terrible. Kept going out and wouldn't stay lit at all.

Report back with your findings, as I'm curious if a bit of a nap is all that's needed. If that ends up being the case, I may have to give it another go around.

I have had no problem with the couple I smoked and to me they taste like a Tat Black, same flavor profile as the others. I store all my cigars the way they come, so have them still in the tubes. Now of course the box was to big to store them in the box.

Out of Pete Johnson's mouth "No more Tat tubos ever". He had to many issues with cracked wrappers, and then all the issues with the Dracs on top of that. He may not even do the Monster series this year.

I picked up a box of the Black Tubos last Friday (3/5) at the Tatuaje Event at Drapers in DC.

No cracked wrappers on any of them, exactly I opened the box on Monday (3/8) and I'm smoking the 10th one now as I type. Great flavor and strength, not a single problem with any of them.

:sad

That's too bad all the haters got to him. I still think the monster series is a great idea that really showed what a unique approach Pete takes to making and marketing cigars. It was and is a great concept and I think he should really try to iron out the distribution kinks as well as increase the volume and just ignore all the whiners that are butt-hurt because they didn't get a box of Dracs.:2

I guess I'll have to let mine rest before I fire one up! And, perhaps let it dry out a bit.

Hey! New to Cigar Asylum, and I wanted to say hi and love the forum!! It's the best I've seen, that's for sure!

I agreed on the Tatuaje Black tubos after my first one 2 months ago(straight from the truck)....bland and lacking any flavor, and didn't resemble any TAT I've had to date. It really f-ing sucked! Today, after 2 months of rest in the humi at around 67% humidity(with the caps off the tubes), I tried another one. WOW! What a difference! I found it to be extremely complex, at first teasing me with possible full TAT flavor, but not quite getting there. But the first third had good, solid full flavor with thin, wispy gray smoke. Then, about a third into it, I was tasting that "brown label" type flavor....a tangy, twangy leathery smoke that lasted until the end. It was at that point medium to full. And what a long smoke....I downed a few Sam Adams "Nobil Pils" beers with this torpedo. What a great mix! I think that you need to rest these and not rush to judgement on them. They are like Cuban smokes in that regard, imho. Let 'em rest a few months and you should like 'em too!

Re: Tatuaje Black Label Tubo

So I'm smoking one right now. This one rested outside of the tubo for a couple weeks then spent 3 days in my travel humi en tubo.

I'm about done and I'm surprised at how mild it is. Some good flavor, but overall mild in flavor as well. First few puffs were metallic-y tasting but that subsided. It has a light woody flavor, and a sweet tobacco flavor.

To be honest, a yard gar has more flavor then this. Not worth the MSRP so far.

For those of you who are over Tatuaje, can I ask why? Have your tastes changed, has the quality control gone down, or do you have other reasons? I've never been a huge fanboy for Tatuaje, but I've also had nothing but good experiences with their product and count them among the few NCs I still smoke on occasion now that CCs are 90% of my intake. I'm just curious to see why people are losing interest in them after so much hype on the boards for the last year or so.

I think a lot of people have been turned off by some of Pete's limited releases. I know a lot of people including several shops that were not happy with the monster series this year in terms of distribution, cost, the boxes smelling like crap. . .

Also, for the CC smoker, Tatuajes are on the upper end of the price scale for regular release items. There are a lot of really good CCs that are cheaper.

So taken together, I can see why some people have been turned off by them. For me, they are my favorite NC cigars and I will continue to buy them because I like to smoke them. I try not to obsess over the limited stuff as I have had pretty good luck obtaining most of the releases.

Smoke what you like. :tu :tu

I suspected it was the Drac fiasco, but I just don't understand why people act like Pete Johnson killed their puppy because that release fell through. I think it's funny just how emotional some people got about that release and the frenzy it stirred up when it hit some snags. It was like watching grown men devolve into bunch of 13 year old Hanna Montana fans. The bitterness I see in posts by people who used to swear by Tatuaje and grew jaded because a couple of special releases didn't live up to the hype they'd created for themselves makes me think that maybe they only ever liked the IDEA of Tatuaje cigars in the first place. If they had really liked the product, it wouldn't have mattered that the Drac fell flat. From what I've heard, the Boris made up for it. God knows how many tent poles we Habanophiles have to throw out into the lake;) LE's and RE's in that world are notoriously inconsistant. I've even heard that the Cohiba Gran Reserva box smelled like varnish. Maybe Pete was just trying to emulate Habanos in ALL aspects of business:r:r

I really like alot of Pete's stuff, but the Black Tubo pissed in my Post Toasties for sure. I smoked a few right after they were released & thought that they had alot of promise, & would probably smoke better after they settle down & acclimate.... Well, I smoked one not quite a week ago that's been stored in my humi that's in the low 60 rh range, & even let it drybox about a day before I smoked it. I had to relight the frickin' thing like 73 times times... I haven't been that pissed about a cigar in quite some time.:r

But to be fair... The rest of Pete's stuff has made me quite happy for the most part.:ss

Haven't had one, even though I've had ample opportunity to purchase one.

I think two years ago I would have gone APE POOP over the opportunity to buy a really strong nic puro.

It's amazing what expanding my taste horizons did to my palate, and I have only the PSHC to blame! :xxx

I think people were pissed because a high end product, especially a "limited" high end product you spend your hard earned money on should not dissapoint like this has. That said, I have heard good things about this stick, but nowhere as many bad things...Doesnt matter to me I dont buy alot of his stuff...Ps-are you saying he made the boxes smell like paint on purpose??? And when it comes to cc, well, I just it's kind of expected because, well, because that's the way it sometimes is...I am not trying to pick a bone with anyone, whatsoever, just adding my 2 cents
