Now you have several experienced members telling you its not, but thats not enough to change your mind. |
Re: Plume!
Maybe better pictures would help settle the matter...

By the way it isn't plume. I don't care how the guy keeps his humi. Bands don't plume, here is the one and only time I was relatively sure I had it and that is after several thousand cigars. http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/g...g?t=1265646536 Even then I was not 100% convinced..............smoked great though |

I appreciate the picture and the input from the FOGs. Next time I think about tap water vs distilled water, I'll remember these pictures. |

Re: Plume!
No! Sorry- the give away is, as was mentioned, the bands. They won't have plume on them! It does actually look more like dust or water impurities. It would be interesting to take a magnifying glass to that ceegar to see the white stuff up close. But, I'm afraid I'd hafta agree with those that say it isn't plume. Also don't know if five years is long enough for plume to develop. It's a veeeeery sloooow process.

Re: Plume!
Looking at the picture provided, its not plume. Plume is a naturally occuring by-product of long-term cigar aging. As the cigar's naturally present oils are exuded through the wrapper and dry forming crystals. There is no way it can form on the paper cigar band.

Re: Plume!
And just when I thought I knew the difference between mold and plume.....
Now I clearly have no clue. Oh btw, NO I'm not being a wise A$$....... |
Re: Plume!
I thought it was "Marinara Moe"
|
Re: Plume!
AJ, I gotta say my friend, I have never - in almost 30 years - never seen plume on a band. That's the first hint that something is amiss. While it may not be mold, it isn't plume. If it looks crystilline under a magnifying glass, then there is probably something in the humidification system.

Re: Plume!
If it looks like stripper glitter... you got the good stuff.
If you don't recognize stripper glitter, get thee to the club to research properly. If it looks like dust, quit watching the Golden Girls reruns and thinking dust or mold is sexy. (See the Hog for Sexy Prune-like Bea Arthur "sexy-time" verification). |

No confusing those teeth, I was like AJ the first time I saw them... I thought it was PLUME! |
Re: Plume!
As Pete said, plume will look like stripper glitter. Hard to see sometimes if it's not in the right light, even hard to photograph. Plume never looks dust like or white, it is just crystalline and clear-ish.

Since we're on he subject...
Here's a cigar I've been keeping for the past 4 years that I believe is showing signs of plume: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...IMG_0143-1.jpg Here's the celo showing signs of yellowing: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Img_0148-1.jpg Does this look right? |

You can see the "white" spots that are the few crystals that are reflecting the light at that angle. The cigar was "covered" in plume. I wish I could find a better picture, but that's all I have. Hopefully the pic works, as it took a while to pull up on my computer. |

It's possible I've just never seen it like that. All the plume I've seen has looked similar.

Re: Plume!

It doesn't look at all like mold and I doubt it is dust as it has been in the celo and kept in a humidor with an rh that has never dipped below 65 or above 72. |
