I just became a member of NetFlix. Anyone else a member. If so what movies are you watching?

I am. Have been for a couple of years is all. I use it pretty much to catch up on what I've missed. The new Rambo and Cloverfield are in the mail.

I've had netflix for a few years lately and love it. We get 2 movies at a time and can usually get through 4-6 movies per month. Netflix is a great thing!

I have Blockbuster... Netflix was slow to turn movies around. Blockbuster is nearly instant, as I return the movie for a free movie, then when I'm done watching that movie, another one arrives in the mail.

Because the arc, the pits of fire, human sacrifice, a 600 year old Knight... etc were all entirely plausible :D

I use Blockbuster also. It is only a 1 day turnaround for exchanges. Lately I havent been watching as many movies though.

How does everyone feel regarding the selection of Netflix vs Blockbuster?

I've taken advantage of free trials through Netflix quite a few times in the past 2 years, but am now paying monthly. I've got a 2 day turnaround (in mailbox Monday, get a new movie Wednesday) and also have yet to find a movie Netflix didn't have.

How does Blockbuster compare?

Jordan's always gotta be an arse. :r

My coworker use to be a big Netflix guy, but now uses RedBox since he's got a McD's nearby and can regularly get $1 off coupons (basically free rentals if you return it the next day). I got neither atm but as soon as I cancel cable I'll be looking for options.

8 or 10 years worth of Netflix here. Love it, One day turnaround, they have a depot in town here. Some months, we go through 12 movies, some months 3 or 4, still worth it in any case. Up for tonight, Hot Fuzz. Later, after Cinderella goes to sleep, Battlestar Galactica.

BTW redbox is good too, have used it a few times. A buck for a new release and return anywhere? Great for a road trip of on vacation, air travel for work, etc.

+1 for Netflix. Been a member for a couple years now. Very happy with the service, and the selection is great! The idea that you can also watch movies online helps smooth out the bumps between deliveries.

I never have a problem with Blockbuster. In fact, when I moved two years ago and totally misplaced 3 DVD's, they immediately sent out 3 more & didn't even charge me!

I love this feature and Netflix can't even compete because they have no retail outlets. Now, I'm sure Blockbuster may very well close their retail doors as it becomes less and less financially sensible for them but it's great being able to drop off a DVD I've ordered & received in the mail that I've either watched or something that I'm just not feeling and pick up a new DVD (at no cost) at the store. Immediately when they scan in the DVD I've dropped off, they send out another from my online queue so I'll likely get a 4th DVD (instead of my cap of 3) in a day. And I'll have a week to watch that DVD I picked up in the store down the street before I have to turn it back in.

Hope it wasn't the first 'Crash' with Roseanna Arquette & James Spader......oooooof. I had to watch that (uncomfortably) with my Dad in the theater. Yikes!

Been considering for some time, came across the thread week or so ago and decided yesterday to give NetFlix a test run. Pleasantly surprised to find they have quite a collection to choose from and you can also order DVD's pending their release. Being a PBS, and BBC whore, stoked to find a hugh selection local video stores do not offer. I am In!!. :tu Can't wait. :tt

NetFlix :tu We usually have two movies and a series. Turnaround is usually about a day or two. Just finished the last season of the Wire.

BTW -- I thought that "Assassination of Jesse James" was an intriguing movie.

I like Netflix for the selection. I like a lot of older movies, and they have a great selection. Just got in Spencer's Mountain with Henry Fonda. One of my favorites.

I have been a member of Netflix for almost 5 years myself (Two more months to go) and I LOVE every minute of it. I watch a lot of movies when I have time and at one time had more rated/reviewed movies than their paid Movie Critic LOL.

I currently have 461 movies in my Queue (I watch a lot of foreign flicks, weird movies, as well as blockbusters) and the 4 that I got in today were Hancock, Tropic Thunder, HellBoy II and Harakiri.

Just completed Netflix trial phase and stoked, watched Momento last night, I don't get it. I would have given it a 1-2 rating, see where 99 % of previous viewers gave it a 4 plus, think I'll have to wait and consider watching the movie again, have to be missing something. :hm

I have been a member of Netflix for a couple of years now and love it. Now I can stream movies through my X-box 360 at no additional charge (of course you have to maintain an x-box live account and be a member of Netflix...but I was both anyway). I really like this feature as before I would have to watch a streaming movie on my PC. Now I can watch them on my tv!! Very cool feature and with my plan I can watch an unlimited amount of instant movies!

It isn't a movie appreciated by the masses. I liked the reverse scene layout and trying to piece together the movie, a bit like a puzzle. Guy Pierce is one of my favorite actors, so that helped.

If you went into that movie wanting only to be entertained and not wanting to interact with the movie, then you'll be disappointed. It seems to be one of those movies that you either love or hate, no real in between.

Watched the movie when it first came out, seemed to recall it is quite a thriller with a couple of twist. Usually don't repeat but since it has been a couple years, and don't recall the ending, decided to check it out again and it is in the mail. Thanks for the headsup :tu

Re: Netflix

I'm an on again and off again member. I did blockbusters in between. But when I saw that NetFlix was available for my Tivo, I switched back. Granted the 'on demand' selections for NetFlix is about 2 months behind the new rental releases, that is quite fine with me. I'm paying $8.99 now, Blockbusters was charging me $18.99.

With my busy schedule, I could never get to the Blockbuster's B&M to trade in my rental for more movies while I waited for the ones in the mail to come. Waste of money. Now I just queue my movies/shows up and watch from my pc or my tv.

goatfarmer 12-31-2008 10:15 PM

Re: Netflix

The different streaming devices it appears 'Netflix' box is the least expensive, if understand correctly once the box and unlimited plan is purchased there is no need to maintain an additional service plan as with TiVo, and Xbox. I will have to check it out further. :hm
