The new Dominos Pizza

Just wanted to give a heads up for those that hate dominos.

Tried their new pizza and it's easily now the best pizza of the national chains IMO.

Very tasty for the price. While it won't beat out a couple of our local gourmet chains, I will say that it's probably now the 3rd-4th best pizza in my college town when we have easily over 20 pizza places within the city limits. :tu

What changed, Jordan? Haven't seen any promotions.

Really? They have been all over the tv and radio around here. They have new hand-tossed seasoned dough, a new robust sauce and real shredded cheese.

Thanks, I've seen the commercial and was wondering about it. Now I need to find a Dominos near me.

Not only that but the toppings are better too.. at least some. The olives are now very good.

Pineapple and pepperoni appear to be the same, but overall it's very obvious they tried to improve this thing.

Domino sucks IMHO. And yes Jordan, I can have an opinion on these, as we have Domino's here too.

A company that puts out a TV add like this should fire their marketing manager.

Re: The new Dominos Pizza

Quite frankly.. Any change whatsoever would be a change for the better, in my opinion. I might try it. Papa Murphys is our pizza of choice here, and it would take a pretty big leap in quality of ingredients and crust improvements to equal it.

Just tried it. Not bad. Not great, but better than before. The sauce isn't as sweet and the crust has parmesan sprinkles all over it.

I tried it last weekend...I still prefer Papa Johns any day.

It's more of a garlic-parmesan-butter spread over the crust.

The sauce has a bit of bite to it as well. Definitely not sweet anymore. More spicy in stead. Crust is actually doughy as well.

Exactly.

Kind of a cross between Pizza Hut and Papa John's. Don't know if that's going to be a good thing for Domino's or not.:hm

As opposed to "fake shredded cheese"?

Or just fake cheese?

I think they actually used frozen cheese previously, and have now switched to fresh grated. Though I may be wrong.

Dominoes is the only pizza delivery where I live. In the past we would still order it but thought is was at best so-so. We got one the other day and I noticed it was quite a bit better. Then I saw the commercials and understood why. At least I feel better about ordering from them now. Not a great pizza, but not a bad one any more either.

Re: The new Dominos Pizza

I am not sure the commercial qualifies as bad marketing. Pizza is a tough racket. If your pizza sucks, it takes balls to go on national TV and tell it like it is. They are not saying they thought their pizza sucked, they are saying the PUBLIC thought their pizza sucked. And it did. If they turn their situation around, no one will remember the spots in 5 years. "Where's the BEEF!" it ain't. You would be surprised what passes for "rules" in advertising. Bottom line, there are no rules. Just success and failure. I think this will be a success. But it will not be worth the time if the peole on the phone do not continue to recognize what a huge part they play. In Memphis, I gave up calling for Pizza, cause all you get is slack jawed idiots who can barely speak english and think they are doing somebody a favor by coming in and doing nothing for 8 hours in exchange for their low pay they agreed to work for.

I wish I could get a hold of real Chicago Deep Dish or NY Style Pizza down here. But Domino's Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Pizza Inn, and the local cardboard mom n pops are the best we can get down here. There's an Uno's in Myrtle Beach but I hear it's not the same as the real ones in Chicago.

There is a Greek restaurant that serves decent pizza, but I want to try real Deep Dish that will give you a heart attack from one slice.:dr

I've worked in Pizza and fast food. You get what you pay for. Honestly the hardest working job I ever held was in the food industry, yet it was the least paying job I held. Pizza Hut is far more strenuous than teaching, yet it pays Sh!t!.

Surprisingly, DiGiorno(sp?) used to have a decent heart-attack style deep dish, but I think its been discontinued, because I haven't seen it in at least 3-4 years.

I order online. Dominos is by far the easiest place to order from online that I've experienced.

Hell it even tracks the progress of your pizza down to the name of the person who put the toppings on it.

And this thread just goes to show how subjective pizza is. Personally I can't stand Papa Murphey's, but liked the new Dominos and some are completely the opposite, which is entirely alright.

My favorite pizza place in town is still a place called American Dream Pizza, which is so popular here that even Obama stopped by for a pizza while coming through Oregon on campaign :r.

Despite my differences with Obama's policies, I'd gladly stop at any place that a president stopped to eat at. If it's good enough for American royalty, then it's good enough for me. (Exception is McDonalds and Bill Clinton).

I'm a big time pizza snob and dominos was just horrid. BUT I have to say I tried their new improved recipe and I have to give them props on making such a huge change. Still not the greatest pizza but it's not that bad now.

I do have to say that they have the best website I have seen in a long time for a retail experience. Big props to them on the makeover.

Re: The new Dominos Pizza

I tried it and thought it was very tasty! There are some local restaurants that make much better pizza but for a cheap, fast pizza fix Dominoes may be my new go to.

Re: The new Dominos Pizza

In our area they are "guaranteeing" their pizza. If you don't like it you get your money back. I don't like Dominos as a rule but if they are going to put their money where their mouth is I'll try it again. If it's good then I can't beyotch it out but if it sucks I get my money back,,period.

I felt the old Dominos was so-so, I always liked it better than Pizza Hut but not better than Papa. The new Dominos is MUCH better IMHO. Still prefer Papa Johns when it comes to pizza over all the national chains. One thing unique about Dominos I continue to love are their bread bowl pastas. They are :dr. I also think Domino's cheesy bread and cinna-stix are better than any other pizza chain's bread or desert item

Actually i've only had the chicken alfredo but it's too good to try a different one

:2

domino's is always skimpy on the toppings. I use to order triple bacon pizzas back in the day, until I noticed that they never put any more bacon on the pizza than they did a one topping bacon. I called to complain and they basically told me to Fugg off...

I live in NY and there are plenty of half decent pizza placed around that are good. I had Dominios moons ago and gave me heartburn. I used to love pizza hut, but that stuff is all grease. Uno's is the a chain place that has some good pie.

If you want a pretty decent Chicago deep dish, delivered to your place, I'd recommend:

While not my absolute favorite, still a good pie, and friends who have moved away have always appreciated when I have shipped them one of these.

I had some of dominoes new medium pies the others night. Nothing spectacular in my opinion, and I couldn't remember what their old stuff is like.

I prefer papa john's over dominoes in terms of pizza chains. Just my opinion.

Re: The new Dominos Pizza

Having lived in Jersey all my life, I've had lots of great pizza, especially down the Shore and at a number of spots in North Jersey.

At least to me, the chains are all overloaded with dough and cheap sauce that tastes like over-sweetened catsup. The toppings are more like decorations than real food. About the only one I've somewhat enjoyed has been Uno's back in the day.

I look for a spicy sauce with strong pepperoni, sausage, and thin cut black olives that are fresh. The California pizzas, at least for me, need to stay there. :)

Currently the best local joint by me in South Brunswick is Giuseppe's. Another place is Attilio's Pizza & Restaurant in North Brunswick along Rte. 1S.

I think I'll have to stop by Giuseppe's for lunch tomorrow.

For a revamped pizza it's a lot better than the old stuff but still not quite a world class pie. Plus the ones we had were very greasy.

Re: The new Dominos Pizza

Prefer the local joints in Chicago to the chains, but in a pinch, have resorted to the new domino's pizza. Not disappointed at all, think they've lived up to their campaign. Definitely the best of the chains. Still pales in comparison to any corner pizza shop in NYC!

Kinda my take on the "New and Improved" also. Better than before, though, so that much at least is good. Especially seeing that Dominos is the only pizza place we have in my small town.

I have tried Domino's in the past but found it lacking so we have been going with Godfather's -- especially because they deliver. If we are going to pick it up then we will probably ge Nona Emilia (local to Beaverton, Oregon).

I will have to give Domino's a shot again...
