Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
Out went the package Priority Mail last Tuesday, Washington State to Texas. Makes me feel all warm & fuzzy to check the DC and continue to see that the Post Office accepted my package on the Dec. 15th.........and?
When are they ever going to offer a real tracking system? |
Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
USPS equals unusually slow package service ;)

Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
Sorry John, it is a delivery confirmation service, not a tracking service. I often have packaged show as just dropped off until they arrive at the destination and even then (if they didn't scan it) it sometimes never gets updated.
I've experienced this same sort of thing with other shippers as well. |

Which is why I pay my postage online and get the DC for free - cuz it ain't worth :2. But John's question is still valid. When will the USPS provide a tracking service? |

Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
Seems like some branches track better than others.
Seven different entries on the progress of this package sent out last Friday. http://trkcnfrm1.smi.usps.com/PTSInt...00000024251823 |

Hot Damn...the USPS website shows my "Priority Mail" package made it to Dallas, TX today. Might even have been delivered...........................:r
8 days, not bad for "Priority Mail", eh? :D :D |
Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
USPS - that means it is a government entity. What did you expect, service like provided in the public sector where real people have to offer a real product or they'll go find another product? Did you expect Fed Ex? UPS?
(sorry, momentary rant there) |

Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
Never had an issue with USPS Priority from this end. Packages usually arrive sooner than expected. :tu
My bigger gripe is paying for shipping Priority Mail on purchases and then watching the shipper wait for 3-5 days to get it in the mail. Why bother? |

Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
I agree at this time of the year it has to be poor at best. I just got 2 boxes of tat tubes from NH to NJ and it took 6 days. When not in season they offer great service and can get packages in 2 days even from TX. I think at this time of the year you need to send UPS or Fed Ex they seem to be the only ones that dont have a slow down and work there employees to death to get stuff all over in the same time fashion no mater when.

Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
The Postal Service has a pretty good network set up for handling Priority Mail 11 months out of the year. In December, they throw all that out the window and totally change the way the packages are sorted at the window units (post offices) and plants in an effort to reduce overtime. Creates too much confusion to be effective IMO.

Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
I've had very good service from USPS this season. One day delivery in the same zone. Several packages sent Coast to Coast in 3 days.
Have had some bad luck this year as well. One pass with several hundred dollars in CC's lost and another package lost as well. But overall those Postal workers are some of the hardest working people in the business. Cant imagine trying to deliver packages after last weekends blizzard. Kudos to all the postal employees. :tu |
Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
Yes it does get crazy this time of year for us. We get a 1000% increase in letters and packages for about 2 weeks. The USPS does change the way they do things in December. They hire casual or temp employees for 21 days to make up for the extra mail. I for one don't like this as most of the time they don't know a thing. So we do our best and as always management runs around with heads cut off in December.

I'm very satisified with the U.S. Postal Service.:usa

Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
I too have been very happy with the USPS, and think they have done a great job of modernizing with the times to be able to compete. Priority mail is a bargain, and very reliable. On a few occasions, I've had the woman at our local hub offer to stay late to so I could pickup a package.
UPS Ground is very good as well, and I'll get most packages overnight within one zone. Only problem is I'm on the very end of the route, so I get packages very late. FedEx... Well I've had mixed luck with FedEx. I do stay away from Smartpost. It's where Fedex gives the package to your local post office for delivery. But if something goes wrong neither takes any blame and your package is stuck in limbo. |
Re: Just Venting....USPS Priority Mail
Considering the cost to send parcels, and the reliability of the service, I have never had a complaint against either of our countrys postal services. I agree that they do use the word "tracking" rather loosely, but considering the volume of packages they handle every day, I still say they do a good job. I have been using just plain old "Airmail Parcel Post" to ship ebay parcels for about 7 years now, and have never lost one yet. I say "Bravo" to the Post Office.
