Liga Privada #9 Flying Pig
I have to give a lot of credit to Steve Saka, president of Drew Estate. Before he created and released the Liga Privada #9 I would take a walk around the block to avoid touching anything with the Drew Estate name to it, but after smoking a Liga Privada #9 I wanted more of those. And then there came the Flying Pig, a fat funny looking stick that made its way to the top 5 of my "want to try" list. I tried it, and loved it.
http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/f...g/DSC02830.jpg The flying pig is made from the same blend as the normal Liga Privada #9, so it has a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, a Brazilian binder and Honduran & Dominican filler. The wrapper is nice and dark and is almost veinless, it looks like a small bomb. The cap has a pig tail, but that was expected with a name like this. The cigar has a full barnyard aroma. The construction feels good, but the predraw is a bit easy and leaves a delayed pepper flavor on the tongue http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/f...g/DSC02833.jpg Right from the start I can taste cacao, mild bitter and earthy flavors. After a few puffs I can also taste some herbs and spices, like seedless red peppers. After a third the flavors mellow out, the pepper and the cacao disappeared, the herbal flavors and the earth are now the only flavors noticeable. http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/f...g/DSC02854.jpg Halfway the aftertaste becomes a mild creamy chocolate flavor but unfortunately the chocolate doesn't stick around, the creaminess does. Close to the end the cacao returns. http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/f...g/DSC02859.jpg The draw starts off a little bit on the easy side but gets better. I get a lot of smoke from this cigar, medium thick and it has a blue shine to it. The cigar has a strange shape, and just like perfectos I can't get it to burn straight in the beginning, but after a correction the cigar burns quite well. The ash is white, compact and firm as you can see on the pictures. The cigar is full flavored and medium/full bodied. There is hardly any build up of tar. It lasted me little over an hour. http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/f...g/DSC02860.jpg Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, yes, yes, I want more. I bought 2 of those in a box split and promised the other cigar to SmokeyNL, but fortunately he got a box of his own so I have one left to smoke. Appearance: 9 / 10 Construction: 8 / 10 Draw: 7 / 10 Smoke & ash: 8 / 10 Burn: 7 / 10 Aroma (first part) 8 / 10 Aroma (middle part) 8 / 10 Aroma (last part) 8 / 10 |

Ferd, I smoked a few of these at the B&M near me, really enjoyed it except, like nubs and other short cigars, it got HOT HOT HOT towards the end. (Side note: FUNNY hot hot hot video!)

Re: Liga Privada #9 Flying Pig
This smoke is easily one of my favorites right now. After smoking a few of them I started taking a little extra time on that last little bit and it helps with the heat issue.
DE hit it out of the park with this one IMHO! |
Re: Liga Privada #9 Flying Pig
Great review. Does anybody know where to buy these right now? Does anybody have them in stock?

Re: Liga Privada #9 Flying Pig
Great review and pic's my brother!
I was at a Liga Privada Event at my local B&M last night, I have always liked the No. 9 and finally got to try the T-52, I really liked the additional spiceyness it has. I had a chance to get a couple of the Flying Pigs but between the Robust Porter, the Scotch and Tequilla I forget about them. |
Re: Liga Privada #9 Flying Pig
I was a B&M yesterday and they had 3 boxes of these. Are these still limited to 2000 boxes or did they decide to make these a regular production just not as many? There seems to be quite a few floating around. They are one heck of a great cigar so hoping it will be around for a while.

Re: Liga Privada #9 Flying Pig
Excellent review!
I had a "regular" #9 at my B&M a few weeks ago (which I loved) and I'm pretty sure I saw a few of these funny looking ones. I'm going for a smoke today, I'll have to try one if their are any left... |

Re: Liga Privada #9 Flying Pig
I found a box at a sort of local B&M and thought what the hell...took it up to the register and was given the total of $158.00. I said "Is that with the box discount". And it was. So i put them back in the walk in.
When these can be had all over the net for $120.00 no way am I going to pay a 32% premium for the privilege of buying local. |
