Pinar Del Rio oscuro toro - Fail

Fireproof cigar.

My humi hovers around 62-65% humidity and I even dryboxed this cigar for 2 days before *attempting* to light it.

Nice looking smoke, pre-light draw was very tasty. Thought I was gonna have a winner. What flavor I did get was good, but after trying for 10 minutes to get the cigar burning I gave up and tossed it.

Oh well. NEXT!

I hope you give this stick a second chance. I've had them and love them! I have a box of the Toro's actually and I try spreading them everywhere because it seems that people don't give them a chance. The people I know who have tried these have also loved them. Give it another shot.

Maybe it was a dud.

Doh! Can't see sigs on the mobile site, so I didn't realize he's the head honcho for PdR. I had to load the main site and bump his rep for excellent CS. :tu
Mario sent me one of these to try. I'll have to fire it up tonight.

Just finishing up this stick. Construction was a little sloppy. The wrapper itself looked nice (very oily), but the stick was lumpy and had a soft spot under the band. Went out right off the bat, needed a touchup right about the halfway point, and went out again when it hit the soft spot. Relit easily both times. Burn was decent otherwise, and produced a ton of smoke. Flavors were great, reminded me of a DPG Blue, with a little less spice.
Given that I smoked this pretty much right out of the mailbox (just got it from Mario yesterday), I'd buy these (and probably will).

I'm glad you liked it Jeff! I've been passing these around to everyone I can. In fact, I'm going to half to restock when I see a good deal out there. The HSG'd are good too.

I smoked the Robusto size awhile back. As you can see from my signature, I'm not a fan. It tunneled like no other cigar, went out twice, and didn't taste that good while lit.

Wow! I just read this thread and now I;m really excited to try the one in my humi. I have the PdR HSG in my humi as well. Both sound like they are worth a try. Any idea what MSRP is on these guys?

Re: Pinar Del Rio oscuro toro - Fail

Thank you.. I just want to make sure that everyone has a great experience every time with my PDR's. So I'm putting it out there if you have any problems PM me with your addres and a discription of the problem and i will replace them right away.

But as you all know cigars are made by hand and they travel a long way from the tiny island of the Dominican republic to Miami then to your local B&b things can happen along the way.

Thanks Abe

Famous has the Oscuro toro 25 ct box for $155.99 ($172.50 retail), and the HSG for $164.99 ($182.50 retail). So, $6 and change per stick.
Mario sent me an HSG also. Looking forward to trying it.

Don't know how I missed this thread the first time around, but I had a similar ""WTF?"" moment with my first one as well -

Link

'Twas a dud....it happens, don't judge a line on ONE cigar!!!

And I'll throw a second (or third?) vote for the HSG - YUMMY!!!:dr

Got a nice package from Abe the other day. 5 PDR Oscuro toros! Smoked one yesterday, and i hereby RETRACT my first review!

It was a very good smoke with none of the burn issues I had with the first one I smoked. Floral, tangy flavor to start, turning more earthy past the midpoint. Amazing aroma.

Thumbs up to Abe and PDR cigars! :tu

I bought two fivers of these from Famous months ago (great price, had to give them a shot). Lit one right off the truck, and had the same problems others had with keeping the thing lit. Great flavor, but got a little frustrated having to light the wrapper constantly to keep it lit. Bombed a few out, and they had the same issues too. So first fiver was kinda :(.

Tried again after dryboxing, and it smoked a bit better, but halfway was a bit of a bastard again keeping it lit. I still held on that they were a good smoke, just needed some time to even out, so no complaints. Decided to just let the last 4 sit up until I lit one up last week. Was able to smoke one to the end without much problem. Good taste and had an experience I was expecting from the beginning.

Sort of sucks it took so long to get to that point, but I'll chalk it up to the sticks being shipped young and wet (guesses). Kudos to them for being here and replacing sticks. I'm sure I'm far out of the range of doing anything about the previous, but I don't mind. These are good sticks and now I just know to keep these resting when they come in for a good long while. ;)

I got the 5 pack Abe sent a few days back and smoked one this evening. I have since removed PDR Oscuro from my puke list in my signature. The one I smoked this afternoon was very good and had no burn issues at all. Thanks Abe!

No Problem guys,, it really helps me when you contact me and let me know about these issues. I can work with the retailer, or my humidor manager, or even the UPS carrier to find out what happen.

But if you do have problem all you have to do is PM me, tell me what happen, were you got it from and i will replace the cigars.
thank you all for your help...
Abe

Interesting...I ordered several of these on special from Famous Smoke shop...they were almost soaking wet...dry boxed for a few days, and smoked a few; oscuro, sun and another one....all were quite acrid....could not even get past the 1st inch or so.....
they are still resting in my humidor at just under 65% RH....willl try another one again soon....see if resting them longer changes them....
