Re: Mexico
Hey friend. You should go to the new inmate processing area and post an introduction. Let everyone get to know you a little. Welcome to the Asylum!
|
Re: Mexico
Figure out where the la casa del habanos is in Cozumel. Someone here can likely point you to it based on personal experience (assuming there is one). If you buy anywhere else, you run a large risk of getting fakes. Plan on spending some bucks.
|
Re: Mexico
There is an LCDH in Playa del Carmen, which is a short (45 min.) ferry ride away from Cozumel.
|
Re: Mexico
Don't know about the resort areas, but if you're in "inland" Mexico, Sanborn's Dept. Stores has a limited selection......
Rumor is the Sanborns in resort areas have fakes. Don't know for sure..... |
Re: Mexico
When in Mexico, do not buy from any place other than a LCDH. I repeat, do not buy from any place other than a LCDH. If you do, they will be fakes.
|
Re: Mexico
Hey guys I'm new here but just to let you know the LCDH in Playa del Carmen is on 28th and the beach, just near to Mamitas.
I'm down there a lot of the time hopefully I'll see see one or two of you around |
Re: Mexico
Make sure to get a glass top box of the Cohiba barber poles.
|
Re: Mexico
I think you can get those conveniently on the pier where the cruise ships dock.

Re: Mexico
Good evening, I live in Cancun and am over in Cozumel about once a week if I am in Mexico. There is going to be a LCDH in Cozumel soon, the owners of Cohiba Atmosphere Cancun will be opening it around Summer, they have a provisional site set up in a jewerly shop called "Touch of Gold". As the others say, do not buy Cuban cigars anywehere else, they are fakes for the most part.
There is a LCDH and a BDM in Playa but this is a chancy trip unless you take a mainland trip from your ship - either Tulum, Xcaret or Xel-ha and they will shoot you over on the ferry first thing in the morning and you will have an hour to do some shopping in Playa. Safe travels. |
Re: Mexico
Hey,
I'm at the LCDH in Playa del Carmen, for sure come on over, have a chat and we'll sort sort you out with some tasty sticks...we've currently got the only smoking lounge in Playa as well so maybe if you've got time you can have a seat, chill out and maybe a mojito or two.... be good to see you |
Re: Mexico
There is a large open-walled restaurant near the town square right along the main road. I can't recall the name and cant' locate it online. I went to it while my wife and kids shopped and smoked a cigar at the bar. They had Havana Club rum. It was a great 45 minutes.

Re: Mexico
La bodeguita del Cubano, I think it is. Ring a bell? Lots of Che and dark wood?
|
Re: Mexico
I just looked that place up online, Playa Habana, and it looks great ! I wish I had known about it. That's not the place I was at though. It was modern and "touristy" but a great location and a place I could smoke a cigar, drink good drinks, and people watch.
|
Re: Mexico
Bodeguita del Medio (LBDM) - playa habano I might try and swing by Thursday late afternoon on my way back from Cozumel.

Re: Mexico
How about buying Mexican cigars, such as Santa Clara or Te Amo, in Mexico? Are they a better deal there (than in the USA)?

Re: Mexico
Te Amo and Santa Clara cigars are about $3.00 each if bought by the box in the USA.
|
Re: Mexico
A friend of mine who lives in Xico visited te Santa Clara cigar factory and brought some cigars back for me. I am not a fan of Te Amo, and was expecting the Santa Clara cigars to be similar. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at these cigars and would buy them if I came across them in one of my local B&M's.
|
Re: Mexico
Yes, I'm also more interested in Santa Clara cigars. My tastes are towards milder cigars, such a Helix naturals. That's why I have little interest in Cuban cigars.

Re: Mexico
I might take your advice and try a Romeo y Julieta Belvedere or two while I'm there -- it looks like they're very reasonably priced. I'd hoped to pick up some Mexican cigars to bring home. It sounds like I won't get much of a savings on those, though.

Are the Romeo y Julieta Belvederes Cuban?

Just had a RyJ Belicoso, if you like the belvederes and fancy something larger but just as mild.....wow. |
Re: Mexico
Ok, as I've said, I'm pretty new to cigars...just done some reseach and it turns out that RyJ do have a non-cuban line, I think they use Nicargua tobacco mainly. Um, at the risk of sounding like I'm bragging I've only smoked the Cubans so can't comment on the non-habano's line.
|
Re: Mexico
I won't be able to smoke a whole box of Cubans down there, so I'll have to buy individual sticks if I get any. I hope to get some Santa Clara's to take home, but I'll only do that if there's a big cost savings. There are plenty of excellent cigars in the USA for just over $2.00 each.
|
Re: Mexico
Don't waste your time or money buying Habanos in Mexico outside of a few select places that have already been mentioned. Fakes are rampant or they are no giveaway. Even finding good non-Cuban cigars is difficult.
Best off to bring your own cigars. |
Re: Mexico
To be honest going on what has been said, I don't think that there is a huge cost saving to be had on Mexican cigars here in Mexico compared to the US. For sure if you are offerred a cheap Cuban cigar here(playa del carmen) then it's a fake..........although you can get a very nice glass-topped presentation box of 10 Cohiba's for about $15.........
As most of you know I work in the LCDH here, so if you want to know prices then hit me up. |

Re: Mexico
I think I'll bring my pipe just in case. If I find some good cigars at a reasonable price, so much the better. I'll see if I can get hold of a couple of Romeo y Julieta Belvederes, though. Are the cigars at the Vallarta cigar factor good? They certainly aren't cheap! I've gotten some great deals through the Internet in the USA.
|
Re: Mexico
I have no idea, Puerto Vallarta is pretty far from Playa del Carmen......I'd never heard of them until now, pretty website tho'
|
Re: Mexico
I suspect the factory is mostly a gimmick. Cigars really need to rest and "marry" several weeks to be good.
|
Re: Mexico
First time in Mexico. I will be Cancun in July. There is LCDH Cancun and the new Cohiba place. I am planning on visiting both and spending several hours. How far are they from each other? I am staying at Blvd. Kukulcan Lote 4. How far are they from the two places?
Thanks. |
