kayaker's and pgagnon's Go thread

Hey everyone,

Patrick (not Peter :D) and I just discovered that we both play the game Go. Are there any other players here in the Asylum?

Post here if you play or are interested in learning about this ancient and great game.:tu

That's cool Brent. I haven't played in a while, but It's time to get back in to it.

I'm going to post some online resources and a site where we can play online with each other.

http://playgo.to/interactive/ This is a great site for new Go players, or anyone who wants to brush up on their basic skills.

http://www.gokgs.com/ This is the server I used to play on. It also has some Go resources.

More sites to follow. :tu

Anyone up for a game today? Or learning how to play?

kayaker 10-15-2009 02:43 PM

Re: kayaker's and pgagnon's Go thread

Patrick and I have played a couple of games already. We tried setting up our own room, but it keeps disappearing when we are not there.

We have been setting up in the Canadian Room for now.

If you want to learn the game or play one, let us know.

Re: kayaker's and pgagnon's Go thread

I do. I checked out the how to play thingy on one of the links you left Ian. I might be able to play later. How long does a game generally last?

kayaker 10-15-2009 03:52 PM

Re: kayaker's and pgagnon's Go thread

A full sized game can be done in 45-60 min. They can take longer, but you can also play on smaller sized boards for quicker games. It will still teach you the basics of the game.

Well, there's 4.5 hours time difference between us. It's 8:15 pm now and I will likely be up until around 12.

Ah. Another time perhaps. Where is St. John? Where are you in reference to some where nearby?

No problem.

I'm at the Eastern most point of North America.

Newfoundland and Labrador is red. St. John's is at the point furthest to the right.

I could also do some direct teaching at KGS. There is a chat function, controls for teaching and multiple path recording to look at alternatives of a situation.

Keep going with what you are doing and let me know if you want to play around a bit.

You can also look at www.goproblems.com it's a great site for developing an eye for different situations that can come up in a game. There is a full archive of problems from beginner to advanced.
