If you could build the perfect draw tool
How big of a diameter would you like to see
I am thinking 1/16th I have some draw tools that have a tendency to cause splits in smaller RG sticks. Perhaps you want two sizes. A 1/16th and a 3/32nd? Would you like it to be a drill bit? So you could drill it in and maybe draw a bit of tobacco out? How about handle? T Style...........L Style or just a round handle. Your thoughts would be appreciated |
Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
T or L style so that it could be "wound", flat tip so it could be slid between the leaves instead of ripping through everything. compact enough to slide in your pocket, but long enough to get half way through a churchill.

Joey had one that was flat that worked great. not sure who made that |
Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
it's have to be a really skinny drill bit...I've heard of BOTLs using a portable drill with bit and they say it works like a charm.

Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
I had a hand made cigar-spike type tool that I made from pictures of the real Cigar Spike, a small small phillips head screw driver from one of my sons toys, and a tooth pick today, and not one of them could save this plugged La Flor de Cano I just tried to smoke.
I think sometimes a plugged cigar is just a plugged cigar :( |

I don't bother with them anymore Shawn. Smoke right or be pitched. :)

Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
If it was "perfect" it would just make the cigar afaird to be plugged in the first place.
J/K Good luck I think your going to get alot of diffent views on this subject. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
I use a drill bit, 1/16" and about 8" long; just use my fingers to "drill" a couple of holes through the cigar and have never had a problem. Seems to go in easily.

Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
The drill bit thing sounds really interesting... but I have a set of Grant's tools and am absolutely thrilled with them. I have two more sets on the way so I have them in all of me smoking spots and for maybe giving one or two way.
The have a flat, sharp, chisel like end that really cuts through the plugged part. |
Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
I have a set of the ones that were sold as 'Henry's Tools' on CS. Regardless of what happened with the guy who made them, they work great, almost every time. They have a flat chisel-point to get in, but the shaft is flat and smooth, so they don't pull anything out. They just open a channel for smoke to pass through.

Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
I want a draw tool that sniffs out plugged cigars. Automatic centering would be nice too.
|
Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
Grants ( groogs) draw tools are awesome! Work great for nubbing also.:tu

Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
It would be held by a gorgeous Cuban. Wait, I have that, I'm all set. :D

Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
I like the ones with "file' texture, where when you move them in and out they "file" out some of the tobacco, this helps prevent the tobacco from expanding back where the hole you created was and plugging the cigar back up. :2
Some sort of centering would be good, but once you use a draw tool a few times I think you're not very likely to poke a hole through the side of a cigar, at least I haven't after the first few times I used a draw tool (knock on wood). :D |
Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
I have been using a drill with a bit in it lately and it works pretty well. A T-handle with a drill bit would be great.
|
Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
Something like this perhaps?
http://www.drillerschoiceinc.com/ima...rill%20002.jpg But really, a 1/16 or 1/32 rasp/round file would be best. No T handle needed.... If you need that kinda leverage, just pitch it man. I just want a handle that would prevent the end of the tool from becoming embedded in my palm. |
Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
Yeah something maybe a cross from the Aerolus ( sold at cigar mony ) and a knurled draw tool. I was thinking of making something like this at work, are you making some OP?

Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool

Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
So far, I've been using the thin poker that is part of a 3-1 czech pipe tool, for the past year or so.
http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/o.../czechtool.jpg Mine hangs on my keyring, along with a cigar punch and a Nibo lighter purge and flame adjuster, so I always have it. In a pinch, it works as a nub tool too. :tu BTW, Steve (Fissure) is trying to put together a GB for some drawtools. See this thread: CA Troop Support DrawTool GB :D  |
Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
How about a trained tobacco beetle. That would be so COOL!!!!
Just release them into the humidor, have them sniff out the plugged cigars, crawl into the tight spots, eat just the right amount of tobacco to loosen it up and then return to you to be put back in their container with some of Shilala's growing plants and there you have it..... THE PERFECT "SMART" DRAW TOOL!!!!!! !!!!! !!!!! |

Do you sell them? |
Re: If you could build the perfect draw tool
If you do not remove tobacco from a plugged cigar, the plugged cigar will more than likely stay plugged. Check out PLUGGED CIGAR TOOL on You Tube and E Bay.
