I did not agree with him on many points, if any, but I hate to see cancer claim anyone.

May his family be comforted.

Agreed Joe,didnt agree with his views, but regardless its a horrible thing to go through.
My father is currently winning the fight, but it is definetly the ugliest word in our language. To have experinced the ups and downs I would never wish it on anyone.

The country has lost a great man, a true champion of the people.
He will be missed in his home state.

The Kennedy family has had it rough these past few weeks. Prayers for them to be sure.

I think I'll dig a hole and bury myself with cigars for the next 10 days or so until the Ted Kennedy love fest and sainthood cannonization process winds down.

It'll be wall to wall coverage that will rival Michael Jackson's.
Rest in Peace Mr. Kennedy. I never agreed on any of your views but I'd never wish cancer on anyone. It's claimed many of my family members too.

It is sad and an aweful death to die of brain cancer. I have seen it first hand. You have to admit though, the Kennedy family has been cursed. It's crazy.

On this day I send my prayers out for the Kopechne family. The sainthood of Ted Kennedy will all but completely ignore their poor daughter.

He was not a saint, but he did serve the country for MANY years. For that I thank him. He saw lots of personal tragedy within his family over the years, and made it through, though he wasn't unscathed.

Having lost my mother to cancer, I feel horrible when I hear of or see someone that is going through it or has lost their battle with it.

May he find the peace in death that he didn't seem to find in life.

Re: R.I.P. Senator Kennedy

As a flawed individual myself I honor his service to country and find inspiration in his devotion to family.

I went to the polls for the first time when I was 18.
My older brother could not vote when he was 18.
Quote:

Senator Kennedy was a long proponent of the 18 year old's right to vote. He demonstrated his support in his testimony in front of the Subcommittee for Lowering the Voting Age to 18. During his testimony he stated: "Long ago, according to historians, the age of maturity was fixed at 21, because that was the age at which a young man was thought to be capable of bearing armor. Strange as it may seem, the weight of armor in the 11th century governs the right to vote of Americans in the 20th century." Senator Kennedy continued to support this initiative until it was realized with the signing of the Twenty-sixth Amendment on July 5, 1971.
This legislation made the lyric from the 1965 Barry McGuire song "Eve of Destruction" outdated.
Quote:

The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’
That third line expressed the inequity of a time when men and women under the age of 21 serving our country did not have a voice on election day.

"…the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."

May God's blessings be upon us all.

May he rest in peace. Having lost friends and family members to various types of cancer, I will say a prayer for his soul.

But as others have said, I am not saddened that he is now out of politics.

Ah, I figured it out. I kept trying to figure out the significance of the number 4334. It's the number of US troops killed in the Iraq war so far.

Requiescant in pacem

My Dear Brothers,

The Latin phrase "Requiescat in pace" (singular) or "Requiescant in pacem" (plural) is a short prayer that typically appears on headstones, often abbreviated "RIP" or "R.I.P." The expression means "may he / she rest in peace" (singular) or "may they rest in peace" (plural). In English-speaking countries, "RIP" is often used as an initialism for the English words, "Rest In Peace".

It is my understanding that the OP sets the tone and direction of the thread by title and content of the original post. As good members of this community we all try and keep things along these lines. It is what separates us from the lower order of forums :)

Whenever I see a thread that mentions someone's passing with RIP in the title it is my understanding that it is a thread where one can share a thought or experience while acknowledging the passing in a respectful manner, while practicing the matriarchal axiom of “If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

Now on the other hand if the thread title reads B.I.H. then I would expect nothing less than a purging of vitriolic emotion directed at the person mentioned in the thread title.

Regards,

Richard

This thread already contains too damn many cryptic numbers. If you have something to say, say it plainly. Don't just post random numbers.

Or, as tzaddi said, keep it respectful and don't post those thoughts at all. Or start your own thread.

I can't help but agree with the above posters. I know not everyone agrees with a man's political views, but it should not lead to negative thoughts at his passing.

That being said, the man dedicated almost 50 yrs to serving this country. That is more than just about all of his detractors can say. Like him or not, he fought for a cause and tried to make a difference.

I also didn't agree with his politics, but he stood for what he believed in and served our country as best he could for his point of view.

Rest in peace, Mr. Kennedy.

Caught bits and pieces of the funeral on TV today. As a musician, the musical performances, especially Yo-Yo Ma and Placido Domingo were great.
